omg! so many stupid comments on here-he is watching him... paying attention to him. he obviously never flew away anywhere.. he was not left out for the coyotes in the dead of night.. he was not mistaken for a wild chicken.. he was a happy bird.. seriously!
I found a video of Leo through some random surfing on youtube, and have now watched all of them, i am enchanted! It's so wonderful to see a bird that was able to have freedom and a loving home, and man he was clever and so funny!! I really think these little animals live a bright crazy happy life (especially in Leo's case) and then die fast, and perhaps that's best for them, but certainly not easy for you. It must have been heartwrenching. I'm so happy to see he had such awesome owners. :D
@james121515 We used to. After a while, we learned his habits and felt it was ok if he was just outside the window in the apple tree. He either wanted to be eating apples or with us.
I love how he knocks. My cockatiel used to do that =) Leo is so beautiful. It's a shame that he is gone. But he lives on being loved by sooo many people, especially you. <3
Well, it took a long time to get to this level... We did lots of work with him. During the summer, he is so stircrazy, we just throw him out the window. He's usually out for 30 minutes to half an hour, eating apples in the apple tree.
Leo lives inside. If he can't sleep in my shirt, he prefers to sleep in his cage. During the day, he'd rather be on my shoulder, or getting into the food in the kitchen :)
We did our best to teach him about predator birds. He hates being near the ground, and he freaks out when he sees a bird of prey, so he apparently knows the risks. Considering this is his freedom we're talking about, I think it's worth it.
Like many wild birds, it's always a possibility. Crows are a good teaching tool. Crows will chase (but not eat) almost any bird, including predators. This keeps Leo safe, but keeps him on his toes!
-.- Didn't he ever nip at your nipples? You don't seem to have an undershirt.

@Tsanalretentive Occasionally. Super awkward, but he was gentle.

You don't supervise your bird when he's outside?

Mohamedahmed331 1 year ago
Nope, no wild chickens. Those are domestic egg-laying chickens that we raised.

@Mohamedahmed331 In some towns. Where I live(Key West, Florida) there are wild chickens.

While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of someone gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door

Leo will soon be a memory. If you value this very special member of your family, please do not let Leo outside on his own and only on a leash.

Welcome to the discussion, you're coming in a bit late, but let me fill you in:
Birds fly around outside all the time.
Leo was raised from 3 weeks old and trained to fly outside.
Please watch Leo's other videos and read the comments before posting again.

You've probably been asked this a million times, but how on earth did you teach Leo to knock when he wants to get back inside? =/
Other than that, I love him. ^^
britzik 3 years ago
He figured this one out on his own.

Haha! Leo reminds me of my own bird.
You have Leo so well trained, I had bought a bird leash for my bird, to scared of him flying away from me. I loathe putting that on him.

why did he went in your shirt? but cute bird though:D
kim1827 3 years ago
When he has had enough of the day, or if he's too cold, he likes to hide in my shirt. It's warm, and nobody bothers him.
KippTheKidd 3 years ago
He's beautiful! (: You must've raised him straight from the egg to have that kind of training (:
