Don Muang, you may had your failures in the modern world, but you where the gateway for a fresh start in my life. You will for ever be that leap where I started the rest if my life.
Suvarnabhumi is more convenient for travel to Pattaya cutting the taxi ride down to about 1.5 hours better than the sometimes 4-5 hours from Don Muang but I really do miss Don Muang. It is one of the greatest Aitports in the world. I have many happy memories arriving at the iconic Bangkok International Airport.
suvarnabhumi looked like unfinished. i was so much bothered with the interior though i may say it is indeed modern. too modern that i can no longer see the airport atmosphere in it. i would prefer don muang than the new one.
@samartz what I remember, there were taxibooths at Don Muang were you could pre-pay your taxi..even in civilized stockholm you can be ripped-off by taxidrivers from the airport.
Amazing place, mostly because each time I was there was the start of a memorable trip, I will miss it, although the new one on pictures looks quite nice too.
I miss it!!! Suvarnabhum it's so complicated... my family must always wait so longtime until I/we checked out... in Don Muang everything was small and quick... smelly and crouded... typical Khrung Thep Feeling
It was (and is) dirty, smelly and old. It was ill equipped to handle the amounts of traffic that was put through there, and hence had to go. Nice slideshow though, it's sad when any airport closes, (even though it's now semi-opened again) ;-)
As far as I'm aware, Thai, Nok-Air, One-Two-Go and a few others have re-commenced operating domestic flights in and out of Dom Muang? No International OPS, just domestic - to selected destinations. Has been renamed DMK instead of BKK, which has obviously gone to the new airport.
i went back last yr just in time b4 they closed down 2-3 months later after 25 yrs. since i left Thailand( Don Muang )....i will miss it too.... well who knows i might see u again after the problems they have at the new one huh?
there are many memories there I really missing donmuang now
I want to destroy tthat new one.

I love this song by Beau Sunita but it also makes me sad now
because when I hear it I will associate it with the 2007
closure of Don Muang International Airport in Bangkok.
Suvarnabhumi International Airport is supposed to rank in
the top 5 Airports in the world but I still have many happy
memories of landing at Don Muang - about 24 times in all.
My favourite country in the world THAILAND .... (^_^)
