  • sin and virtue are properties of the self. and the taoist way of coping with these properties is being fully aware of all you notice happening around you without fearing being sinful or hoping to be virtuous, but simply knowing you are both, and you are neither.

  • *Cheap marketing alert* I've recently developed a Daily Daoist App (for iphones/ipads). It's free and delivers a random daily quote from Daoist literature. An app coming out soon will be the Daily Ancient Wisdom, which will combine quotations from Daoism, Confucianism, and Hebrew wisdom literature.

  • If Daoism (Taoism) is effective and true, then I envy those who have learned to embrace it.

  • moderation in all things, including moderation- Haruch

  • i dont follow any particular religion and don't believe in any "higher power". what i do believe is that everything exists without having a "purpose". humans are in this universe for a relatevely short time compared to the age of the universe. i try not to give in to the human reaction to judge things without knowing what i am judging. meaning, i dont look at somebody and categorize them without truely knowing them. also, i let others be as they are without trying to change them.

  • Daoism is great but poverty knows no philosophy and it is sad china was allowed to become communist! Now all this is almost lost, thanks to the reds.Just look at falun gong!

  • very similar to satanism if you think about it

  • @evilresidence4 How so?

  • @evilresidence4

    in what way?

  • very clear point form in the video. i like it !

  • taoism for me is:

you are a bird in a cage and you look through the grid. Does the grid cage you in or does it shape spaces that you can look through?! I don't know but if you are the bird, the grid is smelling feeling seeing hearing and tasting

  • too bad this form of government didnt take over the world

  • Lovely music!

  • i have that same exact book got it from borders :)

  • I tossed the coins to ask the I-Ching what my "daoist name" was, I got the "wind" trigram. I was hoping for something cool like Thunder but, apparently, my name is "Wind" or "Feng."

god damn it, I wanted something cool!

    "wind" is so lame!

  • @pillsburydoughboy47 there is no name like "thunder", it is cheap.

  • @pillsburydoughboy47 wind, I think is a master name. It means to change, create, master other things. the other master name is water. it means to breed, help, be everything.

  • @pillsburydoughboy47 thunder doesn't worth mentioning.

  • read the book the name of the wind... youll change your mind

  • @pillsburydoughboy47 ...if you desire a "cool daoist name" then you are yet ready. Desire is not the way of Tao and isin conflict with Wu Wei. You have much to unlearn

  • can anyone tell me why daoist would allow an alligator to eat his cat and not attempt to stop it

  • all things have a place and must run their path, the cat if saved from its experience my be then killed by a car or dog and possibly reincarnate to be eaten, this test of life is of experience to help us find out we, reality seems to be a shadow of the spirit world where everything carefully observed... these are just my views.

the alligator was learning his lesson as well.. and so was the daoist.

  • When I was a child of 4 or 5 I used to dream of being a grown man and rapping women, then running as the whole village was chasing me. It was very disturbing because I wasn't even at puberty stage. It went away as I grew up, I think perhaps I was that kind of man once long ago.

  • i know not what you history may have been but i feel it may not always be your past, the universe is limitless by our perception and it is possible that you may have some link with someone who lived the experience but i cannot say... the past "karma" are just memories held in the emotional body and it is what we do/think/say in the now that matters, there is no past, no future only the now.

  • someone who understands both sides of the coin the yin and the yang, should see all creatures need to eat. the alligator is getting its next meal and the cat unfortunately dies, but maybe if you save the cat then the alligator misses a needed meal and dies. who are we to decide which lives and which dies, Taoism teaches everything flows according to the natural way and going against that way is what causes problems, if that cat being eaten is the natural way then a Taoist won't interrupt

  • @Snakeyes6 wow....all i have to say is wow thats the best explanation for what ive been asking for so long........and i found while i was bored an looking through comments...thank you

  • @Snakeyes6 apply that concept to us humans; who's to say what's natural in politics and economic policy, sounds to me the Free Market is based in Daoism, but I think, we must go beyond the natural, which brings forth a whole other can of worms really

  • @lakid87 of course it applies to humans we are very much a part of the natural world; politics and economic policy are human inventions and aren't natural and really have a lot to do with psychology; the free market is almost like a natural thing (although it really isn't) and knowing everything must be yin yang, the balance between freedom and restrictions is comparable; Going beyond the natural is unnatural and a distraction from the ultimate truth The Tao the natural original state

  • the answert is here.

  • i learned about this in social studies.

  • Omg, that is a great video. I've found inner peace and happiness. These teachings have enhanced my life. Living humble, simple, and peaceful is the way to go.

  • great video, to bad its only had 2705 views. more people should watch this.

  • thanks a lot, and i agree! :)

  • What is the Dao?

    What is it not?

    Great video.

  • Christianity is a peaceful religion, Christians on the other hand...well...not so peaceful at times. But Martin Luther King Jr and the core fo the US civil rights movement were Christians so....taoism as a religion is different from reading the Tao Te Ching as philosophy. The relgion is currupt the philosophy is brilliant.

  • extremes are harmful

that's why Daoists maintain harmony and balance, not purity, not nobility, not popularity.

  • Can you tell me more? I've been intrested in this for quite sometime.

  • Im Daoist...

  • If only Christianity were more like Daoism...

  • Amen to that!

  • it is, more than you think....

  • I agree. ALL religions share common ground. However, Christianity along with many other "more popular" religions have a lot more excess bullshit and have been warped by society to resemble something quite the opposite of Daoism.

  • The greatest attribute of Daoism is its simplicity.

  • very few people would understand the history of religion plays a role in the growth of man kind and as you can see it is the lack of this that cause most problems we have... in truth, every religion takes a slice of the pie of the divine plan, any enlightened being can state that clearly but will we cast off ignorance?

  • to believe that God is limitless is to accept that God is all powerful all knowing and exists in all things, both light and dark, and both has their consequence... the truth i found states that the true divine loves infinity and by such loves all things(nothing left out), we by our deeds guide our experiences through our incarnations(this is complex and i cannot go into it here).

  • hahahaha great words of wisdom there

  • @green897osu Then it would'nt have spread so far!Same for islam! Monotheism is all about numbers and buying poor people with money and the gullible with words!

  • @green897osu Yeah, things are not JUST Sins or Virtues, they can be both, and of course depending on situation and how you commit those acts. It's all relative.
