  • I've known Chuck for some 15 years or so. He and I sat in his basement years ago and made my second suit of SCA armor and worked on his new Brig. He always had a smile and a kind word at the ready and is one of those gentle giants who seemed to have empathy and sympathy for everyone around him. Thoughtful, courteous, joyous and sharing of spirit. I somehow missed the posting of this and am the sadder to know that a friend passed from this world without my knowing. Thanks for sharing this video.

  • I was at his wake - at Pennsic this year. I came unhinged. I still cry regularly at the loss. Everyone should tell their stories of Chuck. Mine is: The last time I saw him, he said he was moving to GA. I said I wanted to go somewhere too - but didn't know where. He told me that I should go where the money is, and where I have a shot at happiness. In 3 weeks, I'm moving 300 mi. away, in with my boyfriend. I'm doing as he said. I wish he was here to see it.

  • sorry about your loss guys :[

just know that he is in a far greater place than here.

  • If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever.

  • I have updated the information for this video.

  • Chuck and I have been friends since we were in High School. I remember the fun times we had and hanging out with all the guys watching them play D&D. The fun times we had when Chuck rented a house down the NJ shore. He was an awesome guy and sweet as could be. He will surely be missed! Thank you to all of his new friends in Georgia. His life in Georgia looked like he enjoyed the heck out of him! Danielle Smith Aronica (Butler High School, Butler NJ)

  • @daniaronica Don't worry we refuse to let his memory die. He was a better man than any other.

  • Thanks so much for posting this. I am sorry for such a loss, but grateful for his presence, how short it may be. Rest in peace Otto!

  • @elizabethanrose He was a great man. Let there be no doubts.

  • RIP Chuck. It was a shock to get the news. The SCA is a darker place without his smiling light. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and skills and your home, and for making us smile. You're sorely missed.

  • @LadyFenris There is no truth greater than your first words. This is truly a loss and darker place.

  • I will certainly miss seeing him this year at Pennsic. I always look forward to spending time with him. He smiles and laughter were intoxicating.

  • @dragonwort Intoxicating and addicting.

  • @dragonwort Me too. He's someone I look forward to seeing every year. Come out to this ship burning. I will certainly be out there, with a shield, remembering what I will always miss.

  • chuck was a great guy.. i didnt know him well but what i did know was a great caring guy. When i went to my first SCA meeting he welcomed me and made me feel at home. He will be truly missed and my heart and prayers go out to his family and friends <3

  • Chuck was an usher at my first wedding. He was a good friend back in the day. The way he helped us out over the years was so kind and done with such generosity. Though we largely lost touch when I left the SCA, my fondness of him remains. What a nice guy.

  • @quietthunder He was a beautiful man.

  • I met Otto at the (SCA) Royal Forest of Rusted Woodlands meeting 'ages ago'.

We were never 'great friends' but we were friends. We camped together several Pennsic's; my final 3 (28-30) included. He was a great, giving guy. Not perfect by any means... I was sad when we lost contact after P30, but happy as a lark when we re-connected at my comic shop when he came in to play D&D with us. Until he moved down south. ;)

I hoped to see him again - I guess I'll have to wait a bit longer now. :(

  • @TalonSCA er, I meant to say I stopped by now and then to say hi to Otto. Howie camped with other groups, I think. I need coffee.

  • RIP, Chuck. I know you will be greatly missed.

  • My first Pennsic, I think it was 28, I was next to Otto in singles camping. We kind of formed an ad-hoc group of singles campers in that corner of the block. Otto found me baking in the hot August sun one morning, delirious and dangerously dehydrated after celebrating my 21st birthday down in the swamp the night before. He got me to the medical tent and saved my life. I'll never forget him. RIP, Otto.

  • @bubblesort Otto was camping with Rusted Woodlands (in lot E1) right at the corner down the 'road' from Troll. He was in my camp Pennsic 28, 29, and 30... I vaguely recall the situation you describe - it was quite awhile ago. I thought it was 30, but I'm old, so what do I know. ;)

I was happy that I was able to re-connect with him at my store (he played D&D with us)... I will miss him... The world is darker today to be sure. :(

  • @TalonSCA Well met. I'm Michael of Lost. Maybe it was 26 or 27, I'm not sure. My memory is hazy. He was with Howie and some other people from NJ, we were up at the corner of N12 next to the highway before you get to the parking lot. I stopped by rusted woodlands at E1 now and then when I went to Pennsic to say hi to Howie, but I haven't been involved with the SCA for 6 or 7 years now. I need to find the time and get involved again.

  • You'll be missed Otto. Fair winds and smooth seas on your travels. When you get there, give 'em hell!

  • You will be missed greatly. Rest in Peace, Otto

  • Thank you for posting this. Otherwise I never would have known

  • @unicornpearlz No problem. Good to see someone else who cares for a man who was so great.

  • Perfect.
