I think more than any other couple I've seen on DWTS, Cheryl and Gilles brought out the best in each other; and this dance is the perfect example. Not only was Gilles smoking, but Cheryl...well, if I were his wife, I think I would have felt just a TEENY bit jealous!
Well, you know, Cheryl made a big mistake when she choreographed the freestyle. The judges were right--there was very little actual dancing on his part. If they had had three 10's for the freestyle, they probably would have won.
This dance was, and still is the best Argentine Tango since DWTS has been on the air. Derek and Jennifer got close, but they didn't have the sexual chemistry that came across when it was danced by Giles and Cheryl. Thanks for sharing this video with us.

its sad they didnt win. shawn and mark were good but they only won for their freestyle. gilles will forever be the best celebrity to be on the show. although they did say he only lost by less than a percent. which sucks harder.

@theatercatz You can't really compare this dance, the ARGENTINE Tango, which the two tangos that Kristi Yamaguchi did. They were NOT Argentine tangoes. The Argentine tango was not performed on DWTS until season 8. Although the two dances may seem the same, they aren't. It's like ocmparing applies and oranges.
@phamdangkhoa2410 that is cheryl's specialty, IMHO. She's like the direct opposite of Derek in that sense...when she gets good music she can do ALOT with seemingly 'simple' choreography. But its not simple, bec. she focuses on the fundamentals of the dance and perfect musicality.
They were technically perfect (imho), but more than that, they were so visually exciting to watch. That is where he had the edge over the winner Shawn Johnson. She was short with those muscular gymnast legs. Giles and Cheryl both have dance physiques. Sorry but that means a lot in dance.

Hot! HOT! I just saw Evan and Ana's Argentine Tango from this year. It was just as great. I would love to see Ana paired with Gilles for an Argentine Tango.
when cheryl goes, "Pretend you're in love with me" and gilles does that whispering thing, lol, the arm cheryl's holding up, if it were mine, would definitely have shook a little bit. this dance is perfect...so sensual and seductive. all the quick and slow contrasts and the touching foreheads. wow. one visual definition of passion, my favorite word.
What can I say about Gilles marini, Hot! Half Greek and Half Italian, I love this combination always a good mix. Just saying coming from a full Greek Girl! Evan is the best dancer hands down! Nicole is already a dancer she has experience they really need to have people with no dancing experience whatsoever on this show.
this is one of my, if not the, favorite dances!!! they should have given him 15 not 10! giles was so good here and performed so many, not only great, but really memorable performances.
(i also really, really liked his quickstep as clark kent.) it's a terrible shame that he lost, but his freestyle just wasn't that interesting, at least, not as interesting asshawn's.

Yes, this is my all-time favorite DWTS performance. Plus afterwards Gilles is obviously so happy, and so moved by the response from the audience and judges -- So we get some nice heartwarming moments immediately following that insanely sexy and thrilling dance!

@dutchpres I believe they lost because it was a popularity contest. Shawn J. was riding high on her Olympic Gold win and she is widely more recognized than Gilles. I'm not dissing Shawn. I think she performed wonderfully on DTWS, but I think Gilles and Cheryl were better, much better. They were perfect dance partners. Season 8's outcome was very much a disappointment to me. Gilles and Cheryl should have won. They were absolutely HOT together in every dance they performed.

When i saw it on Watch over here on a Friday (we get four days after you folks in the US) I was just utterly amazed at what I saw and could take my eyes of them when I watched it.
@daycan u can't really compare this season with last season, because gilles and shawn were actually very close in respect to dancing skills, the trophy could have gone to anyone really, that's what made it so exciting. and that's why its was the most voted and viewed finale so far.
Now, last season was a totally different story, it was totally unfair that mya didn't win because without a doubt she was the best dancer. she was in a league of her own.

it happened again, the best dancer did not win again this season. i said i would not watch after Gilles did not win but i did. Now that MYA did not win, I am swearing off this show for good.
I dont know about the rest of you, but Ive been watching this show from the begining, and I get the feeling of a "fix" being in,for the last couple of seasons. When these two are on talk shows, when everyone tunes in to see what they're going to do next, how do they lose? The judges had to "cool down" they're scores to keep the others in the game!
And this last season? Hamilton's son, Tom Delay, and Osmond? I think the fix was in for Donny to win at the very beginning.

Gilles should have won, however much I adore Shawn Johnson. Mya should've won, though I will say that until the last two weeks, Donny did give her a run for her money.

The DWTS producers are destroying the base of their own show with the way they are manipulating the votes and creating the ridiculous "scenarios" off-the-dance floor eg Ochowhatever and his clinic in sexual harrassment vav Cheryl this past season.
This is one "reality" show I watched because dancing was a big draw and the silly scenarios were not part of it. But now the dancing quality is diminishing; scenarios are the main thing.

a lot of my guy friends say that, too. lol. either that, or they roll their eyes at him, but i see them watching when he comes on-screen. haha. he's like the pendulum in a hypnosis session.
So it doesn't surprise me that he didn't win. I was a little disappointed, but there is a reason Shawn won. During the finals round she put out the best freestyle and stepped up all of her dances. That surprise energy she had is why America voted her to win, and from the finals round I thought that she deserved to win as much as Gilles.
I'm sure she realizes it's an act, but I can't help visualizing what is possibly going through the head of Madame Marini watching the dance. I'm picturing at various points, "Too hot! Too hot!" , "Too steamy! Too steamy"","Pull back Gilles. You're looking like you're getting too close to Cheryl there."
ugh...this dance tells such a story..i love/hate you...Cheryl runs away, he goes after her...i still hate you...but at the same time, I love you...a lot...and then...who's that girl I saw you with? Why do I find numbers in your phone? fiery make/up sex...AWESOME...lol
I would have to agree arya, this argentine tango was fierce!!! No one will be able to top this ever I don't think. It's hard and soft, big and small, light and shade, fast and slow, drama and passion. It was all here in this one dance. They showed it all and set the standard so high seriously...
Hands down one of my favorite, if not my favorite dance, ever performed on this show. Gilles & Cheryl are in perfect harmony here. Such a fantasic performance.

Still comparing the other seasons, but this is the best so far. You can really feel a 100 degree passion on their dance. Cheryl and Gilles, make a movie and it will definitely a hit. Both of you are still the best partner ever in dwts. I wish to see dance both of you again. BRAVIISSIMO!

When i saw it on Watch over here on a Friday (we get four days after you folks in the US) I was just utterly amazed at what I saw and could take my eyes of them when I watched it.

@daycan u can't really compare this season with last season, because gilles and shawn were actually very close in respect to dancing skills, the trophy could have gone to anyone really, that's what made it so exciting. and that's why its was the most voted and viewed finale so far.
Now, last season was a totally different story, it was totally unfair that mya didn't win because without a doubt she was the best dancer. she was in a league of her own.

@decri23 I agree so much. Shawn and Gilles may be my two favorite contestants ever; it's crazy they were on the same season! I don't know if there will ever be a season as great as season 8.

cheryl is a pretty good actress herself. she has great facial expressions throughout the dance! It really made the dance more intense.

it happened again, the best dancer did not win again this season. i said i would not watch after Gilles did not win but i did. Now that MYA did not win, I am swearing off this show for good.

I dont know about the rest of you, but Ive been watching this show from the begining, and I get the feeling of a "fix" being in,for the last couple of seasons. When these two are on talk shows, when everyone tunes in to see what they're going to do next, how do they lose? The judges had to "cool down" they're scores to keep the others in the game!
And this last season? Hamilton's son, Tom Delay, and Osmond? I think the fix was in for Donny to win at the very beginning.

@hsm4castmember Congratulations. You have stumbled upon the one awful thing about reality tv which is the AMerican public gets a *gasp!* choice. It is unfair sometimes. Gilles should have won, however much I adore Shawn Johnson. Mya should've won, though I will say that until the last two weeks, Donny did give her a run for her money.

@hsm4castmember and Nicole should win this season, though any thinking person will realize that Evan will take the trophy. He is a great dancer, not as good as she is, but still a great dancer. THat coupled with the fact that he is a "household" name and she is not....well, Evan will win. I like Evan a lot, but even I can see that it will be unfair.

I feel your frustration. I was so angry when Mel B lost, got furious with Gilles loss to Shawn Johnson (what?!) and with Maya losing to Donnie I was DONE with this show. It's clearly not about dancing...

The DWTS producers are destroying the base of their own show with the way they are manipulating the votes and creating the ridiculous "scenarios" off-the-dance floor eg Ochowhatever and his clinic in sexual harrassment vav Cheryl this past season.
This is one "reality" show I watched because dancing was a big draw and the silly scenarios were not part of it. But now the dancing quality is diminishing; scenarios are the main thing.

i hope what happened to gilles doesn't happen to mya. i love shawn johnson, but gilles always set it on fire. mya does that too and i hope she is the winner. damn...i swear a trail of fire could come up off the floor with each of his steps. he's that good. and i loved the fast footwork contrasted with the slow, especially when he and cheryl did the whole leg intertwining thing. geez louise, as carrie ann said.

So it doesn't surprise me that he didn't win. I was a little disappointed, but there is a reason Shawn won. During the finals round she put out the best freestyle and stepped up all of her dances. That surprise energy she had is why America voted her to win, and from the finals round I thought that she deserved to win as much as Gilles.

I'm sure she realizes it's an act, but I can't help visualizing what is possibly going through the head of Madame Marini watching the dance. I'm picturing at various points, "Too hot! Too hot!" , "Too steamy! Too steamy"","Pull back Gilles. You're looking like you're getting too close to Cheryl there."

I would have to agree arya, this argentine tango was fierce!!! No one will be able to top this ever I don't think. It's hard and soft, big and small, light and shade, fast and slow, drama and passion. It was all here in this one dance. They showed it all and set the standard so high seriously...
