Yes the newer cummins has VGT, even the prior gen doesn't have much if any turbo lag. I have an 06 Ram crd that I pull my Jeep around with. I can assure you that even before I hear the turbo spool it has a buttload of torque. After it whistles you'd better hold on. And shell spin to 5 grand and leave most gassers in the rearview.
