I've seen old time buildings, and I mean over 50 years old, built with logs in the ground for main support logs. They were barns not homes. The logs did not seem to be rotting at all, not quickly anyway. Im guessing they were debarked and treated with something, at least where they were buried. Then they ran boards across these logs every few feet and to these nailed metal roofing - that was the walls and roof. Simple, cheap, effective. I may make a wood house similar using this method.
cool idea, but your going to have a hell of a lot of chinking to do and your going to have leaks. the only way to make a effective cabin without useless effort is to use the notch over notch method and the square up the logs so they fit tightly together, then you need to make the roof with wood shingles for authenticity and to seal up the roof from leaks.
i was building a cabin like that with the exact same plans as yours and got arrested and now i have a court date in a few days and i got a huge fine, make sure nobody owns the land because mine was a good 1/2 mile into the woods

bigdaddyean.. yeah Im sure they might but, by then who knows if it will be even standing.. it was justa good memory I have with my uncle.. hes getting up there in age so its nice to builds things like this with him. Thanks anyways!
Nice job guys, I like the effort, time, and obvious love of the outdoors you put into your work. One thought though, the live trees will keep growing and eventually tear apart the structure by both upward growth and outward as the trees get larger in diameter. Keep on keepin on guys.
if u want to make it really weather tight put mud on the inside then sap on the outside but before u pack it with mud put leaves in it will make it much warmer
pretty dang cool.....keep up the good work !!!

Good job but I believe the ground is suppose to be made first , you have a dirt ground unless you get a carpet or something
TheJSWAG28 2 weeks ago
what did you use to keep the logs up?????????
PhoenixMaster07 3 weeks ago
@PhoenixMaster07 We used 6 and 8 inch spikes.. Its a pain cutting all the trees down, de branching them and hammering them in. Not easy at all
