I have been in the Army for over 16 years, am most likely the straightest person on the planet and I absolutely love the DADT repeal. Now many of my friends can serve openly and not hide who they are just as I have never hid who I am.

I'm in the military (ARMY), we just had our first DADT briefing about the new rules.Basically the new rules are that if your gay, nobody cares and you won't be kicked out... but the military still just had our first DADT briefing with the new rules that will take into affect. The only change is that, you can not be kicked out if you're gay, but all the other rules stand. The military still follows DOMA and b/c of that, gays still don't have equal rights in the military. like marriage or hcare

I don't want to sound like a Republican or anything, but I think the armed forces should keep their "Don't ask, Don't tell" policy. That way when the U.S. brings back the draft (and they will) young men will still be able to avoid being sent to die for the benefit of oil companies by saying "I'm gay". It's a tradition that goes back to the Vietnam war.

Gays who actually want to join the armed forces should pretend to be straight, just like the gays who are already serving.
