People always say, don't judge others. Yet, what are they doing here. Their judging her. And their judging everyone else. We are all people. I hope ABC is ashamed of this production. "Gay themes"? Why? I would think they were "life themes" or "love themes." Nothing is decidedly gay any more than its decidedly black. Ellen made that clear. I'm so sick of people acting as if someone else's orientation is something that even CAN be agreed or disagreed upon. It's not. In Angels, Mother Pitt said "Homosexuality is not an appetizing notion." Well, then you're lucky no one's forcing you to eat it or drink it. How harmful is the truth?

Ellen did a lot of good, but I see what the ABC person was saying. She could portray a lesbian character (show that she is a lesbian)without having every episode being about the novelty of it. It's 10% of the world. I think what he is saying is not to hide her sexuality but make it a part of the show, the way straight character's sexuality is a part of the show. Anyway, Ellen is great and she opened a LOT of doors.

Ellen's a smart gal and made the right choice. That sitcom was garbage, just like most sitcoms, but what she did with it is legendary. She's right--one year doing what she did was better than a decade doing a "safe" sitcom. It would've likely been pulled eventually even if she'd never come out, just because she was the only interesting aspect of the show. And now look where she is.

I love Ellen..but didn't care for the show. I'm straight and seeing homosexual characters in dating situations does not appeal to me. Why? Because I'm not gay.
