you have the best bio guide, unlike most people, I have a 750i with a q9550e0 stock (1.3v default) would I'll be able to reach 3.8 with a zalman cpu cooler
Currently looking to do some overclocking myself. I've also got the C1 revision of the Q9550 on a Asus Striker II Formula Board ( 780i ). I'm looking to hit about the 3.6GHZ Range maybe little higher.. What voltages and such should i be running for CPU Core, CPU FSB, Memory, nForce SPP, and nForce MCP ? any help would be extremly appreciated.. thank you
i cant overclock my Q9550 even with an MSI P45 board :( i managed to get it to like 3.6ghz a while ago but it wasnt stable. now i find it hard to get it to 3.2ghz.. please help.
for some reason the only way it would produce an 8.5 multi was to set something else in the bios so it would recognize it. It was N2 something... sorry really baked right now and its been some time since i been in the bios.
hi i oc my cpu to 3.6 and it shows this in this bios but in windows it does not show this nor does it show this on cpuz i have disable many features such as intel speedstepping but it still is not showing what have i done wrong?
sounds to me like you went a little too high or messed up something in the settings. Your pc is probably underclocking to keep from cooking itself. Honestly without a lot of info i cant help. Try doing some forum research it helps a lot more then youtube.
@94prelude89 1.475 VTT (FSB) is way over what you need from what I've read. Even 1.4 VTT has the potential to burn up the 45nm processors. I'm really wondering how long you were able to run your system on these settings.
Anyone else viewing this video should check around before using these settings. You don't want to burn up your cpu.
By the way, why did you adjust your pci/vga latency. this is ONLY for PCI or AGP cards. NOT PCIex. Besides, you want it at the lowest setting anyways. (eliminate's shudder) if you have a PCI or AGP card.
I have the same board but mines the FTW Digital board. Great board. Im running EPP 2.0(sli ready) Patriot Viper(8 gigs) DDR3 16000 (2000mhz). Once installed, this board automaticly, by default, turns off EPP and sets the mem speed to 1066mhz. Switch it to expert,(turns it on) then unlink all your shit, set the mem speed to 2000mhz, and set all the timings to the memory's timings. In my case, Patriot is 9-9-9-24. You MUST bring all your voltages up a few clicks, or it wont be stable.

True. I've thought about water but I think the routine maintenance would kinda ruin it for me. Now I'm debating on getting a Phenom II but I would hate to give up Nvidia and not be able to have DDR3 and SLI on the same board.

oh and prelude. you must not have a very fast-blowing air cooler right? i can see your settings are very good for getting it to 4 ghz and its THE RIGHT WAY as well. but, my antec 1200 and 5000rpm fan silent 775D (thermaltake) keeps mine at 38c idle with 1.36v. but 47c isnt that bad as to having a q6600 idle at 56c at 3.6 XD
oh i see nvm. i was going to say it must be somewhat of a quietly efficient cooler to get that low. anyways, it's plenty cool for 4 ghz thats for sure.
wow i didnt get chance to look at the specs of your rig till just now. mine and urs are very similar but still with a couple of differences. what did you do to get your proc at 4.0? i want to see if i was doin anything wrong (i dont think i was, but gotta be sure).
Nice overclock but just because your processor will pass POST and load windows doesnt mean its stable. Ive seen many processors even pass Prime95 at 24 hours and OCT for 2 hours but the first time that same pc runs Intel Burn Test it crashes.

and about the voltage, C1 stepping is going to be more unstable than the E0 stepped 9550. i have mine at 1.375 actually, just for a more stable 4 ghz, but ive primed for 8 hours and it hasnt given any problems.
The voltages on this how-to are not correct. You don't just put everything on the highest green setting and call it a day. A true overclocker tests all lowest possible voltages for their desired OC. Your FSB should never be higher than your Vcore
i was doing this as a baseline to give people the opportunity to tweek it themselves. and with my particular board that is the most stable voltage settings i could get. i know it seems wierd and i am sure i could probably drop it down some. and now my vcore and fsb are the same voltage thats the only way i could get it stable. so yes i realize they are incorrect and i have adjusted them for that.
This dumbass on this video doesn;t even know that the q9550 multiplier can;t past a 8. lol . He blames the BIOS! Noobies trying to teach the noobies! lol
who are you talking about? me. uhhhh the q9550 multiplier is 8.5, but the board only reads 8 without the n2 ratio with the n2 ratio the multiplier is 8.5 so who is the noobie now? do some research before you smart off at my vids and get owned on my comments page. peace and have fun being a real dumbass.
Oh wow Big man!....lol You've got a whole extra .5 points! lol . And BTW I,ve already forgotten more knowlege about overclocking than you will ever know. And only noobies bragg about a punkass 8.5 muiltplier! Step up to the BIG BOYS LIKE ME and with a benchmark of 36,000 on 3d mark 06.(11X Multiplier) baby! A motha-fucking QX9770
aint nobody braggin about a multiplier im just gettin shit straight. u said it was only 8 and its not. and you have fun with your 1500 dollar proc that is now no longer even on the market and now obsolete. so quit bein a dick for no reason or is that what people with no lives and plenty of money have to do now a days. grow up man.
Hey i tried overclocking my BFG gtx260 but durring game play all the colors all the sundley changes and i can read the text cause it blurs, i put it back on stock settings and tried again but after a couple of minutes the same problem occurs. any HELP?
2. I'll go higher (1.6v/1.7v) @ CPU PLL voltage cos this helps really a lot in high freq OCs (like urs @ 4GhZ) and maybe low the vtt (fsb voltage) a bit, and the NB one.
3. I'll fix that latencies to 7-6-6-16 or 8-7-7-18, cos for your memory timing 9-9-9-24 is too high and it'll run greater
Btw, i hurd that our processor when takes over 3.6GhZ is too much fucking hot
Enjoy your OC, thanks for posting it! Hope i help u at least a bit :)
Hey dude. I've got the same MoBo as you (EVGA 790i SLI FTW Digital) and the same processor but the E0 one.
I have tried with this combo only a 381x8.5=3223MhZ OC with vcore 1.2 and the other voltages, stock ones (1.1fsb, 1.5memory, 1.3 spp, 1.4 mcp, 1.5 PLL)
I wanna give you some advices with the voltages and the board:
1. The 790i's SB (MCP) is too much fucking hot with stock voltages, i would go lower in MCP voltage
Thanks for your input. That will be the route for me. Yeah im nit also a fan of that green coolant looks like the same shit in cars. Im gonna go for the blue to match my blue cathodes.
Hey Thanks I was able to Overclock up to 3.ghz for now that should be plenty and overclock my ram up to 1059mhz. I would go higher but im on stock cooling. Hey do you know of any high quality liquid cooling systems that work great on the q9550?
HI can you give me directions on how to overclock my Q9550 on a 780i with 1000mhz sli Ram. I have tried raising just the FSB but it constantly freezes after loading my destop.
i dont know the mobo very well, but i imagine its is probably about the same as the 790i like mine. just watch my vid and do some research i wont say anything different then what i said in the vid.
Thanks for the vid. I'm going to OC for the first time when my FTW board arrives next week. My ASUS 780i striker II formula killed itself trying to figure out that I had a q9550...so I'm jumping shipst o evga for good and getting ddr3 ram. Do you have waterblocks on your nb? I have a waterblock for my cpu, but not the nb.
.... upgrade to core i7 and overclock that, i have got a simular watercooling system and i get 4.2Ghz, i could go 4.4GHz stableish but i don't want to push it.
Impressive. Mines running at 3.2Ghz, with temps of 65oC under 100% load and 40-45 idle, my case is a little old to allow any decent cooling, but after removing the filter the airflow has improved alot. Great CPU.
hey 94prelude89 (or casey/KC) i have the same stuff but i have the q9650 (not QX) and have it overclocked @ 4.00ghz by following ur exact steps.. i downloaded OCCT and did 1hour test and it cameup with no errors.. is that good? does it adjust and optimize my cpu or is that it.
if you ran it for one hour its probably stable but i would run it for 24 hours just to be sure. no it doesnt optimize the cpu just basically breaks it in and lets you know if it will go bad anytime soon.
I just got mine stable at 4ghz, (1.36 vcore) But would a max temp in p95 of 73 be too hot? I'm using a zalman 9700. Oh, And my ram is 1333 ddr3. I have it running at 1614. Will that be alright?
if it stable then use it and try to refine it to specific specs, but this vid is merely somethin to help you understand what you might need for these high of overclocks. just play around with it.
i think there is difference in revision of processors, because my slow as **** q9550 can't make 4ghz..what is outstanding. talking about E0 stepping..you have good piece of cpu or nice skills :) because im running in water and still cant make 4ghz o_0 Plus;i can't make more than 19.152 points in 3d mark 2006. gtx 260 extreme 625/1130/1345 (q9550) OMG?!
Thanks bro! After following ur steps I was able to hit 4ghz. I've done it once before but never noted down the settings. I was trying to hit 4ghz again but kept getting crashes. I'm able to hit 3.8ghz stable.
I am getting the Q9550 for my next build. I usually overclock just because of the benefits. Should I bother overclocking this processor or is it fast enough on its own?
It's fast on its own, but in order to see what it is capable of i overclock. so its up to u, play around with it at factory settings and if fast enough dont OC.
Wow! Then I will OC to 3.5. So I will disable all the spread spectrum stuff. Anything else? And will this high of an OC seriously deplete my computer's life?
there are a few temp monitoring utilities that shut the pc down if it gets higher then a specific temp so u want to turn those off. and as long as u keep the proc cool at idle and load you wont deplete the lifespan.
how much you think i have temps, if i have 120mm front cooler, zerotherm nirvana and 80 or 120mm fan back of case and i OC to 4ghz? :] planning to buy q9550 and OC it to 4ghz + hd 4870 1gb ~780mhz, u think 19k will break? :] planning to use Asus p5qc mb :]
Ok yeah got mine to over 4 Ghz one time but i got that blue screen of death to. So i clocked it down a bit. Running mine at 3910Mhz stable as i raised the north bridge voltage. FSB is now 460 and north bridge is at 1,36V, and vcore at 1,37 =)
not at all it should run fine at stock volts. you really dont need to start raising voltage until u start gettin above 3.5 or 3.6. so u should be fine.
for encoding your vides, try VirtualDub, it's very popular because it has some very good functionality (albeit very limited compared to a full fledged video editor), and open source. A little confusing to use at first, but there are a lot of guides around.
very stable you can do 3.5 with only a little voltage bump maybe .03 volts if that. i just took it to 4 to see if i could do it and if the board could handle it. what cooler u got?
well unfortunately mine doesnt stay that cool. not even when lapped. lapping dropped load temps by about 10 degrees but idles stay at about 40c. i wish mine did stay that cool.
Nice dude. I got my q9550 at 3.62ghz right now. I got an x48 chipset and just an air cooled system. My chip runs about 40 idle and gaming, 50c. Passed 2 hour occt test as well. Nice video man. I plan to hit 4ghz once I can better my cooling.
3.2 should run easily at stock volts so try unlinking your ram or lowering the ratios if you havent done that and disable all spread spectrums, do you have the ultra? If so you might want to look into a pencil mod so you can that voltage. If those don't work out then comment me back and we'll see if we can't figure it out. Also what kind of ram and what frequencies?
Shits sick bro.I need some help maybe you can help me out.

who are you talking about? me. uhhhh the q9550 multiplier is 8.5, but the board only reads 8 without the n2 ratio with the n2 ratio the multiplier is 8.5 so who is the noobie now? do some research before you smart off at my vids and get owned on my comments page. peace and have fun being a real dumbass.
94prelude89 2 years ago
Oh wow Big man!....lol You've got a whole extra .5 points! lol . And BTW I,ve already forgotten more knowlege about overclocking than you will ever know. And only noobies bragg about a punkass 8.5 muiltplier! Step up to the BIG BOYS LIKE ME and with a benchmark of 36,000 on 3d mark 06.(11X Multiplier) baby! A motha-fucking QX9770
sensibleguy7dv 2 years ago
aint nobody braggin about a multiplier im just gettin shit straight. u said it was only 8 and its not. and you have fun with your 1500 dollar proc that is now no longer even on the market and now obsolete. so quit bein a dick for no reason or is that what people with no lives and plenty of money have to do now a days. grow up man.

Hey i tried overclocking my BFG gtx260 but durring game play all the colors all the sundley changes and i can read the text cause it blurs, i put it back on stock settings and tried again but after a couple of minutes the same problem occurs. any HELP?
danielmires1 2 years ago
PsycoFlipside 2 years ago
PsycoFlipside 2 years ago
Thanks for your input. That will be the route for me. Yeah im nit also a fan of that green coolant looks like the same shit in cars. Im gonna go for the blue to match my blue cathodes.
Danielmires 2 years ago
Hey Thanks I was able to Overclock up to 3.ghz for now that should be plenty and overclock my ram up to 1059mhz. I would go higher but im on stock cooling. Hey do you know of any high quality liquid cooling systems that work great on the q9550?
danielmires1 2 years ago
HI can you give me directions on how to overclock my Q9550 on a 780i with 1000mhz sli Ram. I have tried raising just the FSB but it constantly freezes after loading my destop.
danielmires1 2 years ago
i dont know the mobo very well, but i imagine its is probably about the same as the 790i like mine. just watch my vid and do some research i wont say anything different then what i said in the vid.

does this run prime95 without any errors?
nEoxUK 2 years ago
Thanks for the vid. I'm going to OC for the first time when my FTW board arrives next week. My ASUS 780i striker II formula killed itself trying to figure out that I had a q9550...so I'm jumping shipst o evga for good and getting ddr3 ram. Do you have waterblocks on your nb? I have a waterblock for my cpu, but not the nb.

Try Download SUPER video converter. its free (i mean totally free and no free trial crap) and it has no stupid logo
TheGamesNETWORK 2 years ago
thanks for the idea, but i got a new cam so no need to convert anymore.
94prelude89 2 years ago
CPU FSB is not supposed to be higher then vcore. This kills chips
kevinxcal1 2 years ago
.... upgrade to core i7 and overclock that, i have got a simular watercooling system and i get 4.2Ghz, i could go 4.4GHz stableish but i don't want to push it.
ryanbycraft 2 years ago
wow i never run mine at 4 ghz , i'm running it now at 3.4ghz (400x8.5) stable with default vcore, no voltage increase was need it :)
neo8183899 2 years ago
Just got mine stable at 4.15GHz @ 1.3v :) Temps low 30s idle high 50s full load.
xXxUK0 2 years ago
Impressive. Mines running at 3.2Ghz, with temps of 65oC under 100% load and 40-45 idle, my case is a little old to allow any decent cooling, but after removing the filter the airflow has improved alot. Great CPU.
pjholl 2 years ago
hey... nice work.... but i have some problems with OC...how can i overclock my q9550 on asus p5e64 ws evolution....????
kostas3088 2 years ago
hey 94prelude89 (or casey/KC) i have the same stuff but i have the q9650 (not QX) and have it overclocked @ 4.00ghz by following ur exact steps.. i downloaded OCCT and did 1hour test and it cameup with no errors.. is that good? does it adjust and optimize my cpu or is that it.
was just wondering what i should do now
killahhhh 2 years ago
if you ran it for one hour its probably stable but i would run it for 24 hours just to be sure. no it doesnt optimize the cpu just basically breaks it in and lets you know if it will go bad anytime soon.
94prelude89 2 years ago
thanx bro!! enjoy the amnesia haze :P
killahhhh 2 years ago
I have the same mobo and cpu. and on air.
I just got mine stable at 4ghz, (1.36 vcore) But would a max temp in p95 of 73 be too hot? I'm using a zalman 9700. Oh, And my ram is 1333 ddr3. I have it running at 1614. Will that be alright?
jeremy193 2 years ago
yeah that is a nice oc and regular temps unless it is an E0 stepping then your load temps should be more around 65. great oc though.
94prelude89 2 years ago
I have 6-6-6-20 Ballistix. and a Q9650, NOT Extreme.
Is this right:
V-Core: 1.360
MCH - 1.34v
CPU pll: 1.56v
CPU Tem: 1.3v
zTHEFL45Hz 2 years ago
if it stable then use it and try to refine it to specific specs, but this vid is merely somethin to help you understand what you might need for these high of overclocks. just play around with it.
94prelude89 2 years ago
like1/8 quicker?
hackalabac 2 years ago
anyone know how far away is the q9550 from the i7 920??
hackalabac 2 years ago
i7 920 is a decent bit better.
94prelude89 2 years ago
how do u mean decent bit ?
hackalabac 2 years ago
at the same clock speed the 920 would be about 5% faster if that.
94prelude89 2 years ago
the overclocking potential of the 920 is better though.
94prelude89 2 years ago
i think there is difference in revision of processors, because my slow as **** q9550 can't make 4ghz..what is outstanding. talking about E0 stepping..you have good piece of cpu or nice skills :) because im running in water and still cant make 4ghz o_0 Plus;i can't make more than 19.152 points in 3d mark 2006. gtx 260 extreme 625/1130/1345 (q9550) OMG?!
v4rj04nkk4 2 years ago
3dmark 06 does'nt run with multi cores! you could better use vantage
Juliokip89 2 years ago
i agree vantage gives the most up to date and accurate results for benchmarking. thats y i no longer have 3dmark06 downloaded.
94prelude89 2 years ago
Thanks bro! After following ur steps I was able to hit 4ghz. I've done it once before but never noted down the settings. I was trying to hit 4ghz again but kept getting crashes. I'm able to hit 3.8ghz stable.

if i have the q6600 with 680i mb, can i set the memory timing, system voltage same as urs???please help...
jayson1040 3 years ago
I am getting the Q9550 for my next build. I usually overclock just because of the benefits. Should I bother overclocking this processor or is it fast enough on its own?
jarlmaster47 3 years ago
It's fast on its own, but in order to see what it is capable of i overclock. so its up to u, play around with it at factory settings and if fast enough dont OC.
94prelude89 3 years ago
Ok that sounds good. I am probably going to OC it to 3.2. I can keep standard voltages with a small OC like that right?
jarlmaster47 3 years ago
yes you can actually run about 3.5-3.6 with factory voltages just tweak a couple of things in bios like spread spectrum.
94prelude89 3 years ago
Wow! Then I will OC to 3.5. So I will disable all the spread spectrum stuff. Anything else? And will this high of an OC seriously deplete my computer's life?
jarlmaster47 3 years ago
there are a few temp monitoring utilities that shut the pc down if it gets higher then a specific temp so u want to turn those off. and as long as u keep the proc cool at idle and load you wont deplete the lifespan.
94prelude89 3 years ago
will I be able to overclock my Q9550 to 3.5-3.6ghz with factory voltages if my motherboard is a asus p5q-e
ZSneo 3 years ago
Can i know what the max oc is? from the Q9550. thanks..
VideoUploaderr 2 years ago
its around 4.15 for the c1 stepping. i havent figured out how to get it stable at 4.2 yet.
94prelude89 2 years ago
Is it good if i overclock it to 3,50Ghz ? and use Zalman cooler CNPS7000 ??
VideoUploaderr 2 years ago
thats fine temps will be nice.
94prelude89 2 years ago
Thank you very much for the reply and help.. :)
VideoUploaderr 2 years ago
ehh well if you have a aftermarket cooler like
Air Cooing- CoolerMaster V8
Water Cooling- Anything nice
paintballerbigt 3 years ago
how much you think i have temps, if i have 120mm front cooler, zerotherm nirvana and 80 or 120mm fan back of case and i OC to 4ghz? :] planning to buy q9550 and OC it to 4ghz + hd 4870 1gb ~780mhz, u think 19k will break? :] planning to use Asus p5qc mb :]
v4rj04nkk4 3 years ago
Nice OC. Got mine Q9550 to 3860Mhz stable.
bazookatim 3 years ago
I got mine at 3860Mhz too :D My FSB is 450. I can OC it to 4GHz too put when i play about 1 minute cod4 i get a BSOD or it shutdowns.
Filmer1eX 3 years ago
Ok yeah got mine to over 4 Ghz one time but i got that blue screen of death to. So i clocked it down a bit. Running mine at 3910Mhz stable as i raised the north bridge voltage. FSB is now 460 and north bridge is at 1,36V, and vcore at 1,37 =)
bazookatim 3 years ago
i overclocked lightly the mine at 3.2 Ghz with the vcore at 1.16 V
lordmagnum92i 3 years ago
i was reccomended the Gigabyte UD3P Motherboard, what you think about it?
Maz1989 3 years ago
gigabyte makes great boards and the ultra durable is one of the best so i would go with it.
94prelude89 3 years ago
depends on how fast u want it.
94prelude89 3 years ago
I got a Q9550 with WC, and I wan't it OC. But, I wan't it stable for ALL the time. How much do I need to OC it to?
ColdingoVich 3 years ago
And to think I worried about my homeschooling you! Wow! I knew you were awesome!
tat2rn1965 3 years ago
not at all it should run fine at stock volts. you really dont need to start raising voltage until u start gettin above 3.5 or 3.6. so u should be fine.
94prelude89 3 years ago
Would I need to bump up the voltage if I went up to 3.2 Ghz using an Xigmatek S1283 CPU Heatsink/Fan ?
SicilianStyle 3 years ago
thanks ill give it a try.
94prelude89 3 years ago
for encoding your vides, try VirtualDub, it's very popular because it has some very good functionality (albeit very limited compared to a full fledged video editor), and open source. A little confusing to use at first, but there are a lot of guides around.
dongiea 3 years ago
Why would you need 4.0 ghz? Thats crazy lol.
Anyway how stable would it be at 3.5Ghz with one of the best collers (non water) at the moment?
gamerz654 3 years ago
very stable you can do 3.5 with only a little voltage bump maybe .03 volts if that. i just took it to 4 to see if i could do it and if the board could handle it. what cooler u got?
94prelude89 3 years ago
I am building a new PC and I am getting this processor and this cooler:
Scythe Ninja-CU Full Copper Heatsink
One of the reviews said it is the best thing after water cooling.
gamerz654 3 years ago
OCZ Vendetta 2 is better!
HowsUrMa08 3 years ago
yep, it's a very good cooler, but unfortunately, there are better air coolers for the same price now... damn gotta upgrade
Evolution8MR17 3 years ago
well unfortunately mine doesnt stay that cool. not even when lapped. lapping dropped load temps by about 10 degrees but idles stay at about 40c. i wish mine did stay that cool.
94prelude89 3 years ago
prelude89 i have stable 4.0ghz right now 24/7 E0 for the way, sell your cpu and buy again E0 it's around here ya.
artillerypr 3 years ago
what is u cpu voltage set at?
94prelude89 3 years ago
@ 1.35v
artillerypr 3 years ago
yeah that sounds about right. im thinkin about pushing mine to 4.2 and higher if i can get my WC next semester.
94prelude89 3 years ago
wc for what, i have mine 24c idle without A/C in my room :)
artillerypr 3 years ago
Are you getting blue screen of death with memory at 2000 Mhz?
Donny519 3 years ago
my memory is not at 2000 mhz.
94prelude89 3 years ago
Nice dude. I got my q9550 at 3.62ghz right now. I got an x48 chipset and just an air cooled system. My chip runs about 40 idle and gaming, 50c. Passed 2 hour occt test as well. Nice video man. I plan to hit 4ghz once I can better my cooling.
michowski1 3 years ago
thanks dude i took mine back down to 3.825 because i didnt like the temps. but as soon as i get watercooling its goin back up possibly even higher.
94prelude89 3 years ago
3.2 should run easily at stock volts so try unlinking your ram or lowering the ratios if you havent done that and disable all spread spectrums, do you have the ultra? If so you might want to look into a pencil mod so you can that voltage. If those don't work out then comment me back and we'll see if we can't figure it out. Also what kind of ram and what frequencies?
94prelude89 3 years ago
Shits sick bro.I need some help maybe you can help me out.
System Specs.
Intel Q9550 2.83
EVGA 790i
1000 watt psu
Liquid cooling
Hd 4870 x2
I want to overclock my cpu to 3.2 ghz but i really dont know what to input in bios tryed it once and it did not come out so great got that blue screen bullshit.
ballinzeb 3 years ago 2
You can get 3.6GHz easy. Lol.
