What the video does not show is that the front of the wrecker was up against the hill side. When the recovered truck hung up on the hillside it pulled the front of the wrecker around tighter to the hill. We used the flat bed to pull the recovered truck up onto the landing. Landing zones get a lot more difficult with sheer drops and no space. Yes there are a couple of things we should have done differently, we are always learning.
Next time leave yourself more room to land the vehicle. In the position you were in if you would have lowered your boom and let out some cable then drove it out, you wouldn't have looked so bad. Plan your landing in the future, even if you have to drive it out.
BS, Its a recovery truck not a pull truck. You never try to pull a vehicle from an icy canyon on an icy road using the tow truck! That's what the winches and back up trucks are for. He took a chance of the tow truck breaking traction and going over with the recovered vehicle, stupid move. Use your winches, back up's, wheel stops and common sense to do the job safely. Better luck next time. Oh and I did watch you screw up.
@shnrbtlle18 Thank you....I thought i was the only one who thought that. So many bad choices on this one.....Im wondering if they knew they were being filmed. Did they think that was film worthy? I would have destroyed that video.Of course i would have used snatch blocks and recovered it onto the road properly and safely so i wouldn't have needed to destroy it. Peace.
Next time chock up on your recovery chain closer to the axle and leave your boom down lower just until your almost to the top so the last part is you boom up and then drive out. Might have an easier time. You got it done though and I assume you got paid and that's what it's all about. Good job.
that was rough...
