  • Its all fun and games until one guy nose dives into the lake and dies. At least play better music. good vid though.

  • This is the Flying Lions aerobatic team based in Johannesburg South Africa. the stunt was done on klipdrift dam. They are a popular attraction on South Africa airshow circuit.

  • Yike !

If the pilot was to so much as sneeze or cough.....

  • hahaha, that was pretty fuckin cool

  • Annoying Orange: Hey pilot!

    Stunt Pilot: What?

    Annoying Orange: WAVE!

    *SPLUSH*

  • Runway seems a bit wet.

  • is that airplane burnout?

  • DuKCT !

  • This music was cool in 1985

  • @bazzellmike still is !

  • Seen It All - Korn:)

  • IVE seeb air shows since 1960 and thats the coolest thing ive ever seen a plane do.

those pilots have some real skill.

  • WOW, now THAT'S FLYIN!

  • The fun way to wash the bottom of your plane!

  • FAKE!!! It would take a pilot with cajones the size of wrecking balls to fly like that. No way balls that big can fit into those little cockpits.

Just kidding. This is ballsy; really, really ballsy.

  • @azimuth361 But this is done easily, if you think about it, falling from 100ft above water and hitting it with a high velocity will kill a human. This is due to the water compacting under the wheels. So, why not do it on a horizontal axis. That it is is the force of the wheels on the water creating a surface as hard concrete. So.... it is not fake.

    Thanks

  • @cameronbosco Uh, yes, I know. I was making a joke. I really admire the skill of these pilots.

  • its a boat! no its a ship!! nooooo its an airplane!!!!!!

  • skillz!

  • jesus that's just insane lol

  • Really amazing! It´s really difficult to be able to do that without crash, There is to calculate to the milimeter! Fantastic!

  • Cool, who are they?

  • @7redline7 i believe that they are south african

  • pics or it didn't happen.

  • sweet i saw it on fb

  • i didnt know planes can skip through water xDxDLOL

  • looks pretty dumb

  • Sho!! Scully Levine and crew-some of the finest pilots SA has ever produced!!! Great video! We still sometimes see these Harvards flying!!! Legends of the sky!! :)

  • SUPER

  • Sorry guys but I have to do it.

Now that is what you call a Hydroplane!

    So bad I know.

  • Why does some knucklehead always say something is fake. Get off your computer for fuck sake. EVERYTHING IN THIS WORLD IS NOT COMPUTER GENERATED!!!!!!! Now, nice vid mate, but a fine line between 'wow' and a face plant.

  • REal

  • This is very real! No faking in this clip! Its a South African Aerial Aerobatics team that started doing this a while ago. They where featured on the cover of the African Pilot magazine.

  • Isn't it funny how some get it and some don't....?

  • great fake, well done

  • ROFL

    whats the reasons ????

    its not impossible...

if u fly for a long time and got skils

there are much more extrem skileld pilots and they dont fake xDDD

    GREAT LOSER CMT ^^

  • lol, i could probably keep even to them in my speedboat and capsize a few of them even tho they'd probably take off for there safety lol

  • love it ....... great skills

  • Image getting hit by one of those weels, probably die, but whata way to die!

  • Its real. I have seen a crop duster do it on the Mississippi at Memphis. After he passed under the bridge , he just pull back on the stick a bit and he's gone. He said he can just let go of the stick, cause the tires are hydroplaning and very steady. Its just that first little touch thats tricky.

  • why is it a fake ? i thinks thats real !

  • Boy, one sneeze.........and Ker-Splash!

  • That is amazing.

  • Thunderbolds?!?

  • No, these are Harvard trainers if I'm not mistaken

  • whats song name called

  • what planes are those?

  • @Razgriz100000 I think they're Harvard trainers. It's the same as the North American T-6 Texan, but it's called "Harvard" in Commonwealth AF's, and I think South Africa is still considered Commonwealth, or it was when they bought these. Most countries replaced them a long time ago (for some strange reason), but SA didn't until more recently because of the embargo on them over the whole apartheid thing.

  • @justforever96 Harvard's had fixed landing gear, T6's had retracts, other that and one other thing I can't remember, it's the same airplane.

  • @Auggie56

Sorry, Harvards do have retractable landing gear, not fixed as you suggest. we have several here near my home, and they do fold up. If memory serves m,e the main difference between the Harvard and the Texan is the Harvard has a heat tube coming through the exhaust to heat the cockpit in our cold Canadian winters.

  • I'm wondering weather the wheeles are rotating or not...

  • Maybe when you consider the fact that the slightest movement of the sitck would put them into that "iron hard" water at 100kts. triangletrexx think about what you said for a second...not impressed? I am not impressed with the quality of your comment!

  • Wow, that was amazing!

  • Not quite as dangerous as some of you say. At high speeds (100kts+) the water surface is about as hard as concrete. It actually feels the same as a runway when u hit it. I know somebody that did it with a C46 Commando ..Mind u he's nuts.

  • lol yeah u right its insane

  • this is insane

  • could they have actually gone any deeper though, or would the surface tension at that speed keep them out? like water skiing on a dirt-bike.

  • @rubnayr - The wheels hydroplane on top of the water because of the speed, so it feels like rolling on pavement. I imagine if they pushed forward on the stick, they COULD push deeper into the water, but a few inches would be like a plane trying to land in a muddy field. The drag from the water would grab the plane and noseplant it right into the water at 150kts. Even if you somehow kept the nose up, the drag would scrub your speed off instantly and you'd crash. Me, I wouldn't try to go deeper.

  • envy

  • Insane skills! Another 5-8 cm and those guys are past! Respect!

  • would be real fun to see him fall through is front window for flying maneuvres like that. too bad that there was no wind which could have added that little one wave necessary though.

  • Such a dangerous maneuver ! Going 1 or 2 inches lower can make the aircraft flip forward and lead to a violent and deadly crash. However it really looks cool

  • a new way to wash your planes...xD

  • Dangerous stunt!

  • hellcat replica's??

  • No, T6 Texans

  • its dangerous!

  • Not to make a really bad joke or anything... but, does this qualify as ...(wait for it...) "Hydroplaning"?

  • u have a point there lol

  • @ai4fu Tis a fucking bad joke.

  • one bad move and........kerrsplashhh!!!

  • whats the song called

  • it would seem like one good sized ripple and you would be screwed!!

  • HOLY FUCKING SHIT!

  • hooray for ground affect!

  • unreal flying

  • Wow

  • wow this is unike

  • shit that's reptty dangereuse, if they dropped jsut a foot they could end up sleeping with the fish

  • damn... these guys are good!!

  • The key to this stunt is to hold the brakes- then it's like water skiing- thats what we called it as a matter of fact.

  • I wonder who the first crazy-ass was who thought this would be a good idea. I'd hate to see the poor dumb bastard who finds out it's not such a good idea after all.

  • This is common practice with bush pilots landing on small river or lake beaches, it slows the aircraft a bit and helps make the landing shorter.

  • I wonder who had the balls to try that out first?.

  • Jesus, do you really want to know the soundtrack....I am really ashamed of you dude

  • haha yeah...its like the music on a fishing program hahahaha

  • lmao its the music to a softcore porn.

  • These T6s are the best aerobatic team in South Africa. This was specially performed with all safety aspects including divers ready etc. The pressure of the water on the mains gives a "hard" surface effect. Severalgood write ups in Aviation mags on this event. Great flying.

  • Those are T-6's, a WWII training aircraft. They're considered aerobatic aircraft, but they're not particularly capable. The big tires are what allow them to water ski. I know a lot of folks who have done this in crop dusting aircraft and Stearman biplanes.

Btw, the phrase "Stunt" can be insulting to precision aerobatic pilots. The aircraft is not a "stunt plane," but a trainer. Even a fully aerobatic aircraft (Like an Extra 300) isn't called a "stunt plane."

    Nice video nonetheless! Thanks!

  • i love airplane stunt shows

  • Anyone know the soundtrac?

    MM

  • one hell of a main wheel touch and go,Bloody outstanding pilots, great video

  • first of all they know where they are and they would check for rocks. no one is that dumb. Second, even if you hit a rock it will bounce the plane into the air not the water. Excellent pilots and weather!

  • Hats off to the flying lions! That what i call flying!

  • That's a lot of trouble to go to to wash your wheels.

  • Don't try this at home, especially if the ink isn't dry yet on your pilot's license. Notice the virtual absence of wind, perfect weather, and very still water? You need all this, not to mention a very powerful aircraft powerplant, these guys were most likely very close to full throttle.

  • Giant flaming brass balls, hats off to you old guys

  • Actually these guys sent months preparing for this. It was a big deal when they completed it. If you knew anything about surface tension and flying you would know these guys are on a razors edge from dying while attempting this stunt not to mention these particular aircraft are quite difficult to fly. So show some respect you ungrateful nerd.

  • Not exactly razor's edge, but mad skill for sure. When you're that low to the ground (half one wingspan or less) you get a sort of "compression" effect which stabilizes flight, assuming you have airspeed. These guys looked like they were at full throttle.

  • Also known as ground effect. I flew this morning.....

  • LOL

  • I'm impress.very nice

  • These guys are nits....

  • Was the water part real?

  • wouldnt see me trying that. if you ask me they're looking for trouble. good luck to them all.

  • All about gravity...speed drops, wheels dig deeper into the water, pulls plane forward, crash...... But at right speed and not (landing) per say, makes a nice video...Risky but nice....

  • stupid!

  • You are all a bunch of idiots. The planes are all Harvards or T-6 Texans to the americans. The pilots are the Harvard flying Lions aerobatic team from South Africa. The pilot shown is Scully Levin he has 23000 flying hours on 150 different planes and is a legend. Lastly , they were not fucking around the whole thing was planned and they waited days for the weather to be perfect.

  • Yes Sir, I cannot believe how many assholes there are in this world, replying to aviation webs, that havent a clew about flying, Scully borrowed our J3 many years ago after he had an oops in the magalisberg, it was for the landing on the truck stunt,Regards

  • flight instructors are the scum of the earth? right....

  • sound like someone flunked a flight exam.

  • @nyren11

and you are a retarded no life teenager that misses the flight exam!

  • were those SBD Dauntlesses??

  • look like dauntlesses, but i seriously doubt it. No one would restore that many just to do some crazy crap like that. Probably a trainer.

  • These guys are really relying on their engines. Not the smartest idea.

  • What else would you rely on?

  • This is a common misconception. The engine isn't what's keeping the airplane in the air, it's the wind flowing over the wings. Any airplane that has it's engine turned off is then considered a glider and will glide back to earth. That's why it's really nice to have a nice landing field within gliding distance at all times. In this case, they might be able to convert some speed into altitude and maybe find a field,

  • Right, I understand that. I'm a certified flight instructor. But you said "Not the smartest idea." I guess you were refering to flying that close to the water as not a smart idea. I thought you were saying that relying on your engine was not smart.

  • Silly, I fly a single engine airplane. Engine IS what keeps plane up in the air - thrust actually!

  • no, the engine pulls/pushes the plane through the air, the lift generated by the WINGS keep it IN the air.
