  • wonderful!!! no words , it's definitely the best!!!

  • how do i download this movie??i already clicked on the link

  • By the way, do you have the dubbed version and the alternate ending scene/?

  • this movie is amazing!! :D it was better then now! <3NOSFERATU<3

  • i HATe this

  • All this is doing is cracking me up

  • This silent film is highly entertaining.

  • Spoken from a 21st century teenage girl:

I LOVE movies like this! They just had so much emotion in them! Movies were so much better back in the 20'th century! A message to the directors of today: BRING BACK THAT CLASSIC MOVIE FEELING OR I WILL!

  • I've seen this film 8 times and the unmasking scene still sends chills down my spine. A true masterpiece of a film and briliant acting and makeup from the great Lon chaney

  • I guess I'm the only one to mention that Paul Stanley (of 'Kiss') played the Phantom-role in 1999. I was mostly intrigued by Ace's & Gene's characters in that band, but Paul had his chance to finally play a prominently-dark character (similar to Gene's) in the lineage of Andrew-Lloyd Rubber (lol)'s stage-shows for this. A 2nd reference to 'phantoms' was their 1978 t.v.-movie.

'Iron Maiden' had a "Phantom of the Opera"-song, and were also influenced by 'Kiss'. (So there's your 7-degrees.)

  • Is there supposed to be a section of colour in there? during the masquerade scene?

  • @BethyWooMUA Yup.

  • The soundtrack didn't fit the scenes at all

  • I wish I knew who did the excellent soundtrack to this!

  • These movies really have their merit. Directors were inventing the proper way to tell a story with cameras and there wasn't a "cinema language" to use back then.

But please, the ONLY reasons why they are scary are because they are too old and too bizarre. Other than that, they are simply too slow to cause ANY fear.

  • Awesome!!!! This is so classic!! Thanks for the Post!

  • 21st century horror sucks. Only 20th century is actually scary.

  • where did you find all these???

  • @Disturbed58585858 DVD's....online....just because a film is old does not mean they are hard to find!

  • I'd never seen this before. Wonderful movie!

  • vey sad !

  • 1/2 FACE MAN BURN MAYBE?HE CAN SING LIKE A BIRD.

  • I didn't know u could upload long movies on YouTube :O I thought there was a time limit?!

  • I Thought it was the Iron Maiden's Song ''Panthom of the opera''... but I watched the movie and liked too

  • 1:43:34-1:43:39-"Oh, SHIT!"

  • u no this movie is actually getting zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • Love how Erik just pushes the one guy's sword out of his way at 1:04:56. If this were a sound picture, he probably would have said, "Get the fuck out of my way!"

  • My favorite score for this masterpiece is Beethoven's 9'th Symphony! They intertwine like they were made for each other. Good times

  • Ive heard 'bout this one but never saw it, now is my turn...thx @LuckyStrike502

  • Is this Beethoven on beggining?

  • @TMUSICIAN

No. It's Shubert's Symphony No. 8 (The Unfinished SymphonyYou May Be Able 2 Download it 4 free.

    Good Luck!

  • and the third one says:

"My dear Managers, The role of Marguerite shall be sung again

by Christine Daae, instead of Carlotta. The Phantom

P.S. If you refuse this, you will present Faust in a house

    with a curse on it."

  • another letter from the phantom says:

"Mlle Carlotta, If you appear tomorrow night, you must be prepared

for a great misfortune, and therefore I advise you to be "ill". The Phantom"

  • eerie!!

  • can anyone tell me what the letter from the Phantom said? It would help allot for the review I'm doing of this movie. By the way, great performance from Lon Chaney! Id put it at par with," Nosferatu", which was also thoroughly enjoyable. LuckyStrike502, your videos are a godsend for me and my fellow old horror film lovers. Thank you. check out my blog that I do reviews on at: cultclassictheater.blogspot.com. Great film!

  • @MovieMasterReviewers the letter from the phantom says:

    "Mlle(Ms.) Carlotta"

Christine Daae will sing the role of Marguerite Wednesday night.

Any jealous attempt on your part to interfere with the performance

will prove disastrous to you career. The Phantom.

  • creapy

  • That was so good! Much better than I thought it would be. I wasn't sure if a silent film could do justice to a story that has so much to do with music, but it really was superb. Lon Chaney played a terrific Phantom. This is probably the most faithful film adaptation to the original novel, too. My only complaint was the ending; I prefer the book's ending, although I guess this Phantom did get what he deserved.

  • Thanks a bunch for uploading! I've always wanted to watch this movie!:D

  • 54:27

    the color part

  • Does this movie contains Beethoven's compositions at all?

  • Oh you rock!!! For uploading this!

  • spoken from a 21st century girl:

i LOVE old horror movies. i mean ones made in the 1920-1990's... i actually have a book on those movies. most horror movies made today (2011) suck ass. they are not scary. this is eerie and awesome

to my all time FAVORITE HORROR STARS:

    Lon Chaney

    Bela Lugosi

    Boris Karloff

    Max Schreck

  • @1909Titanic1912 Oh yeah! :D

  • @1909Titanic1912 U r incredible :)

  • @1909Titanic1912 lol i agree fuck twilight and all that shit

  • @MrWindowsXPfan Amen, man! Amen!

  • @1909Titanic1912 Marry me.

  • Comment removed

  • @1909Titanic1912 I know your comment is a little old, but I agree with what you said. Im an old school horror lover (like the 30's to 80's) too. Cheers

  • @1909Titanic1912 Lon Chaney, Boris Karloff, AND Max Schreck? You could be my best friend!

  • O gosh this was really good! Go Lon Chaney!

  • I have the coloured copy on video and the colouring was done badly and the music was done by Rick Wakeman and I think they spoiled it....thanks for uploading this...I am sure to download it...I enjoy the older movies like this...Does anyone have the original Moulin Rouge????????

  • This was on Turner Classic Movies a while back (TCM in the U.S.), and my younger sister aged nine years old was in the room. When she saw the scene with the Phantom being unmasked, she literally cried, being terrified! I've also heard that this is how some audiences back in 1925 reacted to the scene. Some film scenes are truly timeless, whether 1925 or 2011, isn't that right?

  • I thought the musical was the very first thing! LOL

  • Does the Unfinished Symphony reminds to anybody else something veeeery much?Something like Disney or I dont konow what???

  • LON CHANEY!!!

  • Yeah....not to disrespect the classics but... this wasn't that great. It hardly follows the novel. They skip so much, and honestly, I had no sympathy for Erik. He acted like a sadistic monster. Even though ALW's follows the novel even less, you actually get to understand Erik and sympathize. I'd vote for Gerard Butler any day.

  • Jeez when the phantom takes christine down to his lair the first time I couldn't get over how long the train to her dress was!!!

  • Wow, thanks 4 sharing this! I'm the ulitmate phantom phan

  • i thought the technicolor segment had been lost. amazing.

  • wow the days of silent b&w movies! In this version i was def rooting 4 raoul 2 get the girl, the phantom/erik is really sadistic in this 1. in ALW's I will always root 4 the phantom/erik...he's got way more believeable feelings and a better personality than raoul, except 4 the whole murder thing : / The gut playing phantom/erik looks like a vampire out another b&w move i saw a long time ago! Not good a gd idea 2 watch just b4 bed!

  • Hello there . Isn't this the 1910 version ?

  • 1:01:27 erik gets roflpwned

  • Chris Christie took "thousands" from millionaires? The Teacher's Union is made up of ALL MILLIONAIRES because of their FAT PENSIONS which are often NOT DESERVED and which BANKRUPT OUR COUNTRY! And they take taxpayer's money to DISTORT THE TRUTH with TAXPAYER MONEY. AND, they don't even really pay taxes at all because they get more paid out to them in pensions then they ever pay in taxes in the first place. This adverstisement is really an ad for how disgusting the Teacher's Union is!

  • what is the song when they dance with the glowing masks and hands

  • I love the music during the scene when they are locked in the cellar and they disover they are in a room with all the gunpowder.

  • I can't imagine if this is not a silent movie....how many times will Christine screams like a madwoman at the dungeon scene.... esp. the moment where she stumbles upon a coffin then Phantom calmly said "that's where I sleep". Awesome!!!

  • The only reason why I like this one is because it has the lovely old feeling... but... there's no moral, I like the 1990 version because the Phantom is nice therefore saying you can't judge people by their looks. This one... is just... very interesting and fun. Not every story has to have a moral of course. I just prefer them.

  • I'm only 17 years old, but i'm a film fanatic. In my opinion, not only is this the best horror film ever made but it is also one of the best all-time films ever made. It's simply brilliant! Never seen that opening shot of the man with the lantern before though?

  • where can i find this film's ost?

  • This film follows the book so well... until the end, which is really upsetting. Where's the intimacy between Christine and the Phantom? Where's the "Poor, unhappy Erik?" It kills me that this is so great and then the ending just ruins it.

  • pffft I lol'd at the unfitting music

  • @CipherPolaris " lol'd " what are you 3?

  • @kallemick

Even if I was why would it matter to you? You cannot judge one merely by age.

  • @CipherPolaris thats not what i mean .... what i meant was that you sounded like a 3 year old really who says " lol'd " and dont say people actully do because its the stupidest thing i have ever heard and if people actully says it it just shows they have no idea what it actully means.....

  • @kallemick Oh god lol. You are just too hilarious man. I lol'd.

  • @CipherPolaris speak english

  • @kallemick k lol

  • I LOVE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA!! THE MUSIC IS SO GOOD!

  • omg im obsest with phantom of the opera mainly the 2004 version but its the story that warps u back i guss

  • i like how erik look at the clock 1:40:13

  • Anyone know what the song is that starts playing at 0:20:00?

  • If only the music suited it better!! But other wise it was great. took me a bit to get into it and get the feel, but it was still cool. Lon Chaney sr hand movements are just epic, fave part was when he beckoned her to look in to the torture chamber, never thought one finger movement could give me the creeps and squee at the same time XD. not very found of the end though. :(

  • hÊh_Î_fËÊl_s0_lÖNÊlý_t0dåý

  • im not able to read any of these letters...

  • for those who wanna see the best part just skip to 50:12

its's said some of the audience fainted at this.

  • @ilovefelixthecatfood we'll see.

  • @yasu3japan holy shit did i really post that? that was a year ago =s

  • 0:09:43 is a pretty cool/ modern shot for the year this was made.

  • They figured out how to add music, but couldn't figure out movies with talking?

  • @xpensfanatic2009 it was the 1920's of course they didnt have sound. sound like talking sound didnt come around until the 1930's

  • @xpensfanatic2009 the music wasn't added with the flim, they had an orchestra in the theater

  • 54:54 Is in Colour

  • All The New People In Town Were'nt Born Yet When That Movie Came

  • @kaiclay2 What do you mean?

    EpicF4iLx23, meet Mr Full-Stop.

    XD

  • lon chaney sr is the best actor and his son is too heck all the classic actors are good they had some classic movies and in that time there were no remakes at all today in are genaration we get crappy movies and remakes leave them alone they shall not be touched if you have no ideas think of somthing and dont take peoples idea yes we know in the 20s the tv were rly small and they were in black and white and silent films but you know what who cares they injoyed the movie and actor and actress

  • I think my DVD of this replaced the music. It was a bonus DVD that came with The Best of Andrew Lloyd Webber box set. Anybody know if this is the proper music or not?

  • @docturlough This is the original and proper music. I have the original film reel

  • WOWOWOWOWOWOW WOWOW !!!! WELL DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • jaja yo la tengo en DVD y la compre en una miseria 25 pesos mexicanos

la poca cultura de la gente en mexico me enfermaa, la tengo en mejor calidad por si gustas

  • Abosolutely love this movie!!!!! Gosh there's nothing better than the classics!!!

  • @AyYoItsJazz YES!

  • good movie, better then i expected, but still cant beat the 2004 version with Gerard Butler.

  • @werewolflover14 gerald butler , hahahahahhahahahhahahahahhahahha (heart attack)

  • wtf no hd?

  • Soo anyone know why there is a part where red and blue color is shown? back in the day were those the only colors able to show? or is an added scene? thanks. beautiful movie

  • she's so.... extremely ungratitude dramatically. pity of the phantom.

  • If you like old silent horror movies you might want to check out Volkodlak on my channel.

  • Great film. But I question the use of Pastoral English Narrative Era orchestral music. I think Organ music in the vein of Charles-Marie Widor's famous Toccata would be better. And certainly would be closer to the experience of seeing the movie in 1925, in some Movie Palace.

  • 5:15 epic contract signing music

  • Awesome Video Movie*****5/5*****Thumbs Up!!

  • 00:00

  • now that i call HD quality!

  • Erik approves of this movie.

  • some wrong music!!!!!!! it was another video with another music - actually, after the calendier fell

  • Just one word: masterpiece!!!!! :) thank you very much for posting this amazing movie :)

  • Idontmeen2brude, but i watched 15 minutes of it n then i fell asleep. Granted, my ipod (i watched it on mine) was dead

  • Hey POTO fans; we do horror/comedies that include classic monsters such as Phantom of the opera. Head to our channel and check 'em out!

  • In my opinion, Erik looks cute when he smiles xD

Anyway, I thought, the film is closer adaptation to the book... Now, I see, there are many differences. Erik seems to be completely evil here, he lacks good features...

And yeah, the background music was weird to me, I wonder why there couldn't be given music that fits to what's going on on the screen.

But well, there was my beloved Siren scene there! Yay! I didn't expect, the creators would put it to the movie :)

  • A masterpiece! v-v

  • i luv luv loved it do they even talk or sing?

  • i luv luv loved it

  • One of the greatest films of all time. Lon Chaney's performance is flawless!

  • @samie1919

Yeah but complaining about lack of color or sound in a silent film is just ridiculous. It's not like those were around at the time. Some of the best movies of all time have been in black and white or were silent. It's one thing to say you don't like a movie for it's acting, directing, and writing, but it's kind of unfair to judge them for not having something when they didn't even have the necessary equipment for it.

  • No wonder he wear a mask

  • You know, this is better than I thought it would be ((:

  • @samie1919

I personally prefer alot of b&w movies to color ones. Gives it a more eerie, artistic, and atmospheric feel. They did release it in 1929 with some primitive color, but still. The masquerade sequence looks great in color, but those scenes in the Phantom's lair are much scarier in b&w. Same with the sound. It adds so much more mystery and doesn't lead to poor dialouge that might have been written for the screenplay. But then I also have an obsession with old movies in general.

  • @balrog13571 Me TOO.

  • This is closer to the book than the musical or the 2004 film. It's one of my fav books, and this phantom looks exactly how I imagined him :)

  • @samie1919 Lol, I agree.

  • Is the opening music Nutcraker??

  • @MissPhantomMania It's not Nutcracker, it's the first movement of Schubert's Eighth Symphony called "The Unfinished Symphony"

  • @linusia77 I really respect that you know that. :) I was thinking it was just another play they were doing, right at the time.

  • i love this movie so much i cant even explain!

  • Classic.

    Thank you.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • Is that the Love Guru at 12:12? :D

  • hey was that first scene where erik is abandoned by his father in the original release? just curious i really do love this movie:)

  • Now that the Unfinished Symphony is permanently ingrained in my head . . .

  • Didnt it take u years to upload? :)

  • 39:51-40:16

gosh, that's so cheesy, that it's sweet and adorable.

  • I frickin love this movie

  • I fricking love this movie!!!!!!!

  • Nice job this is still the best version of the Phantom

  • So, the music starting at about 11:35 is also by Schubert? I've been trying to find out exactly what it is, if anyone can assist. Cheers!!

  • how did u get it to do the whole film in one video? - Ive tried but it just wont let me

  • @TheKi62 You can download the film on the isohunt.com.

  • Im only 12 and im in love with the music from this movie, its so inspiring to create more music like rock opera

  • Actually, didn't the Alloy Orchestra also do this film? They are better than random Schubert, but can be overbearing. Still, their heart's in the right place!

  • This film is a great classic. You'd think the folks who issued it on DVD would care enough to use better music, not just Schubert's Unfinished Symphony and a mvt of his op. 100 Piano Trio randomly laid in. "Phantom" awaits a better musical score.

  • 20 people thought that 'The Phantom of the Opera' is just a song by Nightwish.

  • @OushGisher your reply cracked me up and saddened e at the same time.

    I love this masterpiece

  • @NiteStar131 Lol which one; I give a lot of replies >.>

  • Ok. I like POTO, many versions of it. And I must say I hate pp say any bad about any version of the Phantom or POTO (except the '98 ver, I hate it too). You must know every versions had style and actors no like another. In the '87 ver, it's a horror movie. in the '90 ver, it's so cute and warm. the 2004 ver is for young age. And this version, the 1925 ver, closest to the book. They all have good things to watch. So dont be upset.

  • @hikarukaze7 2004 version is for young age???Absolutely NOT!! Im a woman in mid 40's who loves Gerry Butler in that film....and Im not the only one!!!

About this film, its really good, and Lon Chaneys Phantom is the BEST - but I realy Hate the ending!! Poor Erik! Its terrible what happenes to him...its actually upsetting:(

  • @MrsJosephMerrick Oh no, madam, that's not what I mean. I mean that film helped more young pp know about POTO. Because you know, not many young pp today like watching opera (in my country, at least) or watching old movie.

I like both the 2004 ver and the 1925 ver, too. The 1990 is also a great one, if you like the 2004, I think you would like it, too.

I love the ending of the original novel. The ending of Susan Kay is great, too. You should read it, Erik had a son with Christine.

  • @hikarukaze7 OK!! Yes, I agree! I think ALW said somehwhere he was trying to reach a younger audience...And I have SEEN the 1990 version with Charles Dance! He's lovely!Very witty and charming...but its sad of course.... AND I have also read the Kay Phantom!!

  • @MrsJosephMerrick ^_^ Dance showed us the sweetest phantom EVER! I HATE Christine and Raoul in that movie. They... ugh... But I think Erik was lucky in that movie, he was loved by both of his parents which love the Erik in original novel never has. The Kay version break my heart, but I really like it. I cried when I read about Erik's mother and Christine's love for Erik. They both loved him but too scared to face it until it's too late. I wish there was a movie for Kay's book.

  • @hikarukaze7 Of course I agree!! I think many ''phans'' of our dear Erik would be really excited by an adaption of the original story - and sticking to the plot! - or the Kay Phantom!!!

Yes, CD played a very sweet Erik, and it did make a change that he at least did know that once he had been loved, even as it strayed from the original story. Its even more tragic when Eriks never been loved at all!!!*tears, wants to hug Erik*

  • @MrsJosephMerrick I think Erik in the 1990 ver. is near with Erik in Kay's version. I also believe that the 1998 ver. wanted to show love between Erik and Christine like in Kay's ver. But it was truly a FAIL! I dont know ALW had read the Kay's ver or not, but some details in Love never dies remind me about the novel.

The only thing I hate about the original version is when Christ called Erik "Monster". I was like "What did you say? bitch!". I thought she must be a special girl, but she was not.
