  • Would these images your looking at for the silhouette work with SCAL? There are so many images that I want, but I don't have a silhouette just a cricut.

  • @scrapp3r12 I'm not really sure. I'm thinking no, since they are a different file that what SCAL would take.

    Hugs, C

  • omgosh.. i think i want this!!

  • Thank you for such an informative video!!! I have been recently doing research on the Silhouette, as I think it may need to be a new addition to my craft space ;) Do you use the Sure Cuts a Lot software with your silhouette?? Are you able to use other SVG files that you purchase from other websites in the silhouette program or is that what you would need SCAL for?? Thanks again for all of the info!

  • @tmac0920 I know you can use SCAL, I haven't tried other SVG files though. I'm thinking you can but can't say for sure. Hugs, C

  • Hi Chris Hun, when looking at videos of the silhouette it looks like it cuts the detailed work much cleaner & crisper and actually cuts the detailed stuff quite small compared to the Cricut - as someone who has actually used both do you agree with that perception? Thanks Amanda

  • Thank You Christina! Great tutorial and very helpful information.

  • I personally love my cricut and I know the cartridges can be crazy expensive but nothing beats the organization the cricut has to offer. Provo craft did a great job with their cartridges aswell. I bought about 60 cartridges in one time and I don't regret it, the fun never stops and it's so easy to use.

  • tks for the info - great help

  • You don't need a mat to cut vinyl because you can cut bigger than the mat on vinyl. I believe you can cut up to 27" (or something like that) without a mat on vinyl :)

  • I have the design studio software I bought when it came out years ago for PC and Sure Cuts a Lot and can get every image cricut has ever made and turn it into an SVG to cut in scal, even the new cartridges.....so you can see why I love my Cricut. I also get free fonts online for my pc and cut them (100's) in scal. Thanks for sharing.... I wanted a Mac but now I might stick with my PC for crafting and get a mac (someday) for editing and media :)

  • Thank you so much for doing this tutorial. I've been trying to make up my mind as to what die cut machine to buy and this helped me a lot.

  • One question.. Can you start a subscription and download images before you get a machine or do you have to have your machines serial number and all of that entered for it to allow you?

    thanks..

  • @mssoftbrn Hi Julene. I'm pretty sure I downloaded a free image before my machine came, so I think you can...You also get a few free images when you download the software. Hugs, C

  • I think I will get the Cameo when it releases..

  • What a winner the Silhouette is. When the Cameo comes out I'll have to purchase one. I downloaded the software and looked at the files to purchase and they are so varied and as others have said, you don't have to buy a whole cartridge to get a few images you want. So much more flexible than a Cricut, which I do own several. Thank you so very much for doing the tutorial.

  • Thanks for making this video. I own a Cricut but have been thinking about buying the Silhouette. I've become disappointed in the lack of new images that Cricut has put out. All of the cartridges are looking the same these days. I'd like to not be so limited. This video is very helpful.

  • @rmamacass I'm glad you found it helpful :) Hugs, C

  • If you can print on some and then cut it out do you have to have a silhouette to use those?

  • @scrapaway1 You need to use the Silhouette Studio software to print and then put them print out on the Silhouette mat to cut. Hope that makes sense :) Hugs C

  • Thanks for doing this video...I have the Cricut Create but the Silhouette sounds like something I would like. I like that you buy by the image and not a whole cartridge....that way I can get exactly what I want and not have to spend a fortune...there are other things I like too...thanks again for doing this...

  • Thanks for the info!!!!

    Be Blessed

  • Great video - I live in Ireland and have had a lot of trouble trying to source a cricut or sillhouette. Would you have any ideas on how I could get one??!! TFS :)

  • @nerkola30 I'm not really sure? I ordered mine from overstock, but they no longer carry it. Did you try Silhouette's website?

  • @Chris416ward thanks - i emailed silhouette and they recommended someone in UK selling but they only have the SD. I found a US seller who will post a cameo out to me but I'm not sure if i will have to pay high customs charges. Would you recommend a cameo or is it ok to buy the sd? thanks for your help - ps. love your vids x

  • @nerkola30 The Cameo comes out this fall so maybe the UK store will get it. It's not available in the US yet either. If I didn't already have the SD I would absolutely buy the Cameo. Just because of the 12x12 cutting option. Hugs, C

  • @nerkola30 I've pre-ordered the Cameo from scrapyland and I live in Italy.. You can use Viaddress. I have an address with them, so scrapyland ships the cameo there, and then viaddress will send it to me with a courier, and not the USPS. Maybe the courier will cost a little more, but I'm sure that it arrives, I can track the parcel and I can write the description and value I want..

Maybe the Cameo will arrive in Italy(and so in UK), but: 1. I don't know when 2. It will cost a lot more than in USA

  • @PetitNeologisme thanks. I have found a place now in the US who is going to post to me. Cant wait to get my cameo!!!!!!!!!

  • @PetitNeologisme grazie mille for telling me about VIAddress. I am going to join - it seems very good! :)

  • @nerkola30 Your welcome!! Before buying I emailed Silhouette about the voltage, and they answered me "Input: 100-240V~ 50/60Hz, 1.2A Output: +24V - 2.0A (or as low as 1.25A will also work) Output polarity: positive center" So for Italy is enough an adapter, I think for UK is the same, but ask someone who knows the voltage and frequency of UK..if it's beetween 100-240V and 50/60H you need only an adapter!! Have a nice day!!

  • Bummer... I just checked and the SD has been discontinued and no longer being sold. They are coming out with the new one, the Cameo in October. Thanks for sharing - I will still (eventually) get one :-)

    Tanya

  • @teatanya I think Silhouette America discontinued it, but Amazon still has it. They are coming out with a 12x12 in the fall. Hugs, C

  • @teatanya just checked with custom crops-they still have it for $185.00

  • Great video! I got my Silhouette about 2 years ago and I still haven't use it yet! I keep downloading stuff from Silhouette studio but I'm too intimidated to try them out! I'm like you - I got it mostly for scrapbooking! I really need to push myself to start using it! Thanks for the motivation! Hugs, Jo:)

  • This has nothing to do with Cricut and Silhouette, but I was wondering what software do you use to record your screen. Thanks!

  • @heyitsdivine I use QuickTime.

  • This is awesome! Now I want one!!!!

  • Plus you can use MTC and SCAL with it can't you?

  • @Dizzylizzyscreations From what I understand you can use MTC and SCAL...

  • YES, Thank you for this tutorial!!! I have the Silhouette and don't own a Cricut because I said to myself.......Why? do i need another machine? Why do i need a Cricut if I have a machine that cuts? But I definitely LOVE LOVE my Silhouette!! Super easy and cheap to buy the images than the cartridges......they're WAY to expensive and take to much space!!! JMO!!! (just my opinion) :o)

  • Thanks for the info!

  • Thanks Chris. I'd loce to see a video compairing cuts. I'm thinking I may want this along with my E2.

  • @jtterpst I plan on a little series in the future with the Silhouette. I'll do a comparison of cuts with that series :)

  • Great info!

    tfs,

    Marlene

  • Great video. I purchased the Silhouette a few months ago, but haven't had the time to play with it (I hate work, hee, hee!). The one test cut I did make using a font from my computer, came out great; couldn't believe how clear the cut was. Have you had the opportunity to print and cut any images yet

  • @td2596 I did just this past weekend and it was super fun. It worked great...

  • I love my Silhouette!!! I have over 8000 images and use them all the time. It is easy to search my library so images don't get forgotten. I can cut detailed images & letters as small as 1/4 of an inch to as wide as 71/2 by 39 inches. I can also create shapes, it welds, it offsets to get images small or larger than original. I especially love that fact that I can cut any true type font on my computer (I have a ton) without having to purchase anything extra. I love the print and cut feature.

  • @shelton1567 ...........YUP!! I agree with you!!! I LOVE LOVE The Silhouette too!!! Awesome machine! And if your your computer savy its sooooo fun and easy to work with!!

  • @shelton1567 Me too. Everything you said it why I tried I wanted it. And I too love print and cut :)

  • Thank you so much for making this video. I would love to get me a Silhouette!

  • Im so getting a cameo now, thanks for doing this video!

  • @Dizzylizzyscreations I would totally get the Cameo if I didn't just buy the Silhouette. I'm eyeing it up. Maybe a Christmas present...

  • Thank you so much for this video. I was curious about the silhouette:) I have heard great things about it too!

  • I just got my Silhouette SD last week and I LOVE it. I'm still keeping all of my Cricuts though. (Expression, Imagine, & Gypsy). I love the idea that I don't have to buy a cartridge for one design that I like!!

  • I have a few questions. Will the software run on an iPad or table? Does it cut chipboard? If create designs where do they get stored…locally or on their servers? You got me thinking about selling my expression!

  • @scheivert532 I don't think the software will run on the iPad. I haven't tried chipboard, but i don't really think it could handle anything that thick. The designs are stored on the Silhouette program, plus Silhouette keeps a history and if anything ever goes wrong you can download all your purchased images again. I had to just do that when I did an upgrade on my computer.

  • Hi, thank you for sharing. So if you buy a image for .99 how many time can you cut that item or keep item to cut? ( does the item that cost .99 cent get deleted ofter you cut or print item?)

  • @Stamping24seven As many times as you like. It's yours to keep...

  • Very useful information! Thank you for comparing the machines and sharing all the info about the Silhouette.
