  • True kevintheshedend1976 ....TRUE!

  • Bill hoardings advertise products that nobody needs. While 'Angry' from Manchester writes to complain about all the repeats on TV. While computer terminals report some gains in the values of copper and tin. While American buisnessmen snap up Van Goughs for the price of a hospital wing And nothing EVER happens As true then as it is now, and always will be. It's an insane world in which we live, my friends
  • stuff of legends guys,,,

  • snap it came into my head after 1 day .

  • Holy Fuck!!!!! You know how long Ive been trying to remember this song. I did it!!! Somewhere in my mind I pulled out "post office" and started searching. Years! ive been trying to remember what this song was, I knew I loved it as a kid, but it slipped out my memory. YESSSSSSS!!!!!

  • I've always thought the lyrics of this song are just so incisive, and cut through all the shit of modern life. It's like a musical eye-wash.

  • Great Great Scottish band, been around for a long time. Seem to be going through a rough patch, Justin Currie lead singer released a lovely solo album in '07 "What is love for"

  • i love the song roll to me

  • What a great song,classic!!!

  • i just asked myself the same thing... i just found them today and was amazed at how good they are

  • One of the best songs eve, its a shame odern music is geting worse by the year

  • thank you for the song!

    love it, such lyrics, great!

  • saw this band live twice in 90, amazing.

  • This song is so beautiful. Whatever happened to Del Amitri?

  • Justin Currie was nice every time I met him when the Dels were touring the US.

  • janet....lol

  • why did janet lock up th gates

  • I love this song, it is in my personal top 10I`m English but for some reasons unknown to me I love Scottish and Irish music ie Runrig, Mary Black.

  • I didnt want people to base their opinion on an incident that happened 17 years ago.

  • seen than play in liverpool and did not disappoint very good

  • Comment removed

  • really? One of my mates met him and said he was quite modest and laid back.

  • Maybe it the a bad day, or because they were riding high at the time.

  • Arrogance is a sign of low self esteem. If they are arrogant, pity them.

  • Aww man I'm really disappointed to hear that. Cos lyrically this is one of my favourite songs ever and I just thought whoever wrote it must be like just a great person.

It's like what if we all just suddenly found out that Christian Bale was actually a massive jerk?

    ...

    ;0)

  • Again, this was in 1992. Cant speak for the man now.

BTW Check out his recent song as a solo artist - 'Im still in love'. Its on youtube and is excellent.

  • Let's hope it was just an off day.

Someone who can write something like this and have such insight in his song lyrics should surrely know better than to act like a prick....

  • well, I missed the story. It looks like it's been removed, and I respect the author's choice to remove it. Sounds like Justin acted like a wanker on that occasion. I wouldn't put it past him, but it doesn't mean he's bad guy. There's a little wanker in all of us and maybe was having a bad day. :)

  • how did i forget all about this band , im loving finding all their old stuff on here

  • Ignorant people sleep on their backs, like the doped white mice in the college lab, so well written, and as raisedinderby sez, "applies as much to life today as ever before."

  • As some one who can honestly say he does not like the rest of Del Amitri's work this is a fantastic song and would make my top ten of all time.

  • sorry but what are you on about ??????

  • "American businessmen snap up Van Goghs for the price of a hospital wing" - so true!

  • Oneof my favourite lines ever

  • Not any more - these are recessionary times!

  • True!

  • Like many great songs, speaks for the time and applies as much to life today as ever before. Just like the great writers.

In some ways you have to comment from an objective point, and it helps if your outside of London, Scotland or even Manchester and earlier than that Liverpool, when talking about the UK

  • best song ever written, great band, go on the scottish bands

  • love it ,,,nough said

  • what a tune!

  • is this one of the best songs ever recorded... discuss !!!

  • It could be about most towns and cities around the country... why we only ever hear this played at christmas? lol. good tune, shit vid, good post.. done.. Protek123 out..

  • I can assure you, I grew up in telford and nothing ever happens, nothing happens at all, they'll burn down the chippy in dawley high street and we all go along like before, and we'll be bored tonight, and bored tomorrow...

  • this is about the whole of wales

  • no its not

  • lol

  • This song brings back so many happy memories of London!!!!!!! Thankyou soooooo much for sharing!!

  • No, its not.

  • this song tells the turth of life no matter what in some way we all still fell lonely. how sad but ture but lest we have are friends ~:)

  • excellant song

  • Forgot how good this tune is

  • and well all be lonely tonight, and lonely tomorrow. great song

  • Really good song but the video is crap...it's a really bad imitation of the video to 'Wonderful Life' (which is fantastic by the way).

  • i think this song is better without the video. the song paints a picture that is much more vivid (and bleak) than any video could ever show. effing brilliant song.

  • YES, although I think it is one of their best videos, I AGREE with you!absolutely

  • 100% true!

  • the best ever!!

  • i just love the lyrics of this song, they are so well thought out.

  • I love this song so much =-D

  • Same reason I like Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo by Bloodhound gang, I guess.

  • Probably one the best songs around, has stood the test of time very well. The Words-Well never a truer story told.

  • this songs about crappy british life mate!

  • I totally agree!!

  • the song is sarcastically written smart ass

  • i think thats his point, they criticise everything, but don't offer a solution.

    fair point.

  • this was from a time when the charts consisted of bands like the stone roses, james, depeche mode, new order, talk talk. inxs, edie brickell and the new bohemians, soul to soul etc plus all the quality acid house dance tunes around at that time..oh happy days indeed and wernt we blessed?!

  • good comment stuntladz you echo my thoughts.

  • if only we could always feel like this!!!!!

    class tune.

  • most bands today cant write songs anymore, the art has gone out of song writing,i was 19 when this song came out, its even more amazing now. most music today is utter crap! the charts have never been so full of faceless charlatons with fuck all to say!

  • this song has some of the best lines i`ve ever heard in a song and that includes the beatles.

  • both, true and sad.

a combination most people cannot take because i hurts to find yourselves in such words.

def. one of my all time favs.

  • i love this song. always reminds me of growing up in aberdeen.

  • great song and a nice chord progression for anyone just starting guitar :)

  • I love this song - so cool!

  • Best and Most True Song Ever Wrote!!!

  • I love love LOVE love this song.

  • Was this in the UK around 09:30am ? I was at the barbers and when this came on everyone a smile on thier faces and were lip synching to the song.

But this is an amazing song regardless of how long ago it was recorded. Timeless classic.

  • Fantastic lyrics. Great song. What sort of world is it where creatures like 50 Cent and the rest of the 'hip hop' fraternity get mass coverage and proper musicians get pushed to one side? Can you imagine an illiterate talentless ape like Jay Z even coming within a billion miles of writing something like that? No, me neither.

  • The powers that be would rather you listened to some illiterate (c)rap 'musician' farting on about his 'gangsta' lifestyle than something that might make you think. Keep doing your job, spending your money and listening to r/b or hip hop garbage that rots the mind, it's what the big buisness Gods want of you.... Fo' shizzle, ma' nizzle! Whazzup ma bitch-slapping hoes? Ma cock be da bomb digga bomb...know wha 'um sayin' Muthafucka?

  • Hey...There is no need to attack other forms of music.

    Not one style is beautiful.

And also, this wonderful song is enough to make a case for itself without you throwing that almost unreadable comment at us innocent listeners.

  • ah i proper love this band! x

  • And again, "... billboards advertising products that nobody needs" People seem to run rampant about the by-products of a free-market enterprise society and get swept up into this 'truth' of evil (been there)

When really I find the case is that people will be people, and shareholders of any company do not really care for a public relations industry/advertising to the extent of keeping their own/their family's existence alive. People pay for advertising space; spray paint is rather selfish.

  • Everything they say, despite its seemingly overwhelming value, is part of human nature. Everything is relative and nothing can really be changed; for instance: "... and by five o'clock everything's dead"; people need to sleep and 9-5 jobs are generally accepted in this society.

    A great song, regardless.

  • You've completely missed the point.

    Glad you liked it though.

  • Not trying to be rude, but what was the point exactly?

  • It's social commentary; we had to write a report on this song for English and Communications class in high school. It's a depiction of society.

  • i love this song!

  • i actually love this song the lyrics are gr8...:P

  • massively underrated band.

  • I remember in the early eighties sitting in Barbara's flat when she first played this to me. It would make a great single, I said. But it was a long time before it was released as a single.. And I was right.

  • damn, why not jus say u like the song instead of being egotistic and tellin everyone u wer right?

  • you are so right...... fantastic track - I remember the first time i got crabs - last time i go anywhere near a scunthorpe bastard fucking nightclub.

  • Wat a song its legond.

  • Brilliant!

  • i love this song, i used to listen to it all the time, the lyrics and band remind of my dad who was a majour fan at the time xx

  • great song. great writers. great meaning. has it all

  • saw them at a bar in pittsbrgh it was obvious

there was a rift beetween justin currie and the rest of the band i spoke with ian harvie for a minute ....he was an asshole

  • Still sounds as great today as it did then, genius...

  • Great band saw them live at NORWICH UEA brings back happy memories !!!!

  • Great song and how so topical at the moment...

  • I understand what you mean, this song brings back lots of memories. Even if it was released 5 years before I was born. It gives you that feeling that only a few great songs can. Great song, great band.

  • Great Song. It was covered from Anne Haigis.

  • Great band, distinctive sound. Love them.

  • its taken me about 8 years to find this band i could never spell the name or say it!!!

Now one of my fav albums of all time!!!

  • a great piece of music

  • beautiful words for a beautiful song,,

  • luv this band. amazing x

  • They WILL burn down the synagogues at six o'clock

...we work like robots and blow our pay on booze and drugs. We absorb the celebrity shite on the tv and magazine racks, too scared to dumb to change anything. Then we get old and fat. Then we die. Then the next generation does the same.

  • And we'll all be lonely tonight, and lonely tomorrow.

    great lyrics.

    xx

  • only just discovered this song (group) brilliant

  • i love this song so much

  • And we'll all be lonely tonight, and lonely tomorrow ... god I'm depressed. But what a voice - smoothe as ye like!

  • Oh dear. Hang in there. Also listen to Radiohead, Monta, Leonard Cohan, and read Jean Baudrillard to convince yourself your depression is justfied.

  • A great voice, and superb song... Forgotten how cool this was til I heard it again this morning.... Wot a tune...

  • The best. Simply the best.

  • If you want to listen to good lyrics tune in to the master,Leonard Cohen.Superb!!Especially Suzanne.

  • probably yes....... i've said this for ages

  • i love this song. great lyrics. awsome singer and great band alltogether.

  • great band but didn,t play the game.you have to be pigeon holed to get on and they wouldn,t.so another good band sinks without a trace.think westlife.a bunch of fuck wits

  • so under rated!!!

they are absolutly amazing! me and a few friends were talking about them and saying how they should do a reunion concert :)

  • It´s such a pity that they can´t find a record company again.

Talent ist sacrificed to the commerce. Waht a shame!!!

Though I like Coldplay,I think, these two bands are incommensurable.

Chris Martin in great as a singer and songwirter, and so is Justin Currie.

So it's purely a matter of taste.

    Don´t argue about this.

    Peace

  • I know this is stating the obvious, but this band is proof that success in the music business has nothing to do with pure talent, which is what this band is. If was down to talent they would be mega-stars, even today. They make Cold Play look childish by comparison.

  • id just like to say, coldplay (one word please) are just as good musicians if not better than these guys, band music is still based on talent, success is about what the people want, these guys are signed, but people dont buy their records thats why they arent platinum selling artists. pop stars may be manufactured, but bands cant be, it doesnt work like that, and i would appreciate it if you didnt badmouth coldplay please =D

  • really good song from an underrated band. talented frontman

  • don't blame the world. it's just a mass of earth and water. humans are shite. we don't deserve the discredit we get.
