Kind of. You can level up the soldier class with points, then choose a specialization when it gets to a certain level. Also, about half way through the game, u can add a weapon specialization.
The shooter aspect is good, but for the love of all that is holy do NOT play soldier. You lose a piece of what makes the game good and all you do is just run and gun. No cool abilities or powers. Check out the other class trailers. Engineer, Vanguard, Infiltrator, Adept and Sentinel to get the full look.
Other then that, it has a fantastic story and great gameplay. Although i recommend you play the first one, a lot of references from the first game are in this.
Haha, its true that the biotics and tech powers are a great part of the game. But if they aren't used to rpgs, I would think the soldier is an easier transition XD but ur right, otherwise the other classes would probably be a richer experience
I just don't like how people play ME and ONLY have played the soldier, and they call it just a 3rd person shooter like Gears. It's like a personal vendetta i have against those people lol
Exactly, thats how game/console wars are started. People who have one thing then say they other then that they don't own sucks. Everything has to be compared to something else, even if its completely different
Yea, the console wars are actually rather pointless too -__- For example, I like xbox case I like shooters like halo or cod, but that doesnt make PS3 a bad console. Its just a difference of oppinions XD
Yes and No, they have similar classes but not the ones you can equip.
And you can't directly control them, and since i havn't played ME2 yet i don't know if the AI is smarter then the first game.
Soldier should be fine as a good starter, but trust me, if the story is anywhere as good as ME1 which it will be because thats all anybody says in reviews. You are going to feel the urge to play as a different class on a 2nd playthrough.
I played as all 6 in ME1, and it's different every time.
In ME2, Vanguards can receive assault rifle training when you get on the Collector's ship the first time.
You can choose between an unique special shotgun or assault rifle training, which automatically gives you an assault rifle and of course the ability to use it.
OKAY! So Weapons are the top are they. Look up the trailer for the Adept and the Vanguard and you will see why you won't need the Assault rifle that everybody claims is so freaking awesome.
Yeah i don't think i will replay the game as the other classes.... Isn't the story the same, u get to recruit the same person\ aliens over n over ... ?
Anyway, so far the AI is really good, there are minor bugs that occur sometimes but thats all good
It changes, because if the people are completely on your side at the end, the ending changes, if some are and some aren't, the ending changes, if somebody dies, the ending changes.
The whole game and all your choices will effect the story. Plus i don't think you have to recruit everybody to finish the game.
Use all the guns!

Didn't play mass effect 1 so didn't really know what to expect. But does your team mates in the game comes in the other different classes ???

So if i play Vanguard , can i still use assault rifles?
xMATTSTERx 2 years ago
Sadly, no, the assault rifles are the soldier exclusive weapon so vanguards wouldn't use them.
japboix1 2 years ago
not true, later in the game when you choose a 5th weapon vanguards can choose assault rifle specialization. My vangaurd uses assault rifles too.

About Vanguards and assault rifles (spoilers):
In ME2, Vanguards can receive assault rifle training when you get on the Collector's ship the first time.
You can choose between an unique special shotgun or assault rifle training, which automatically gives you an assault rifle and of course the ability to use it.

Yeh... it sucks, but in the first ME the shotguns can become more accurate and more deadly as you got through the game.
The specter class weapons were DEADLY, i hope they return in ME2
WolfChrome 2 years ago
thats gay so a vanguard can only use shotgun and pistol etc i think i will go soldier then
xMATTSTERx 2 years ago
OKAY! So Weapons are the top are they. Look up the trailer for the Adept and the Vanguard and you will see why you won't need the Assault rifle that everybody claims is so freaking awesome.

@xMATTSTERx well you can specialize about half way through the game and pick assault rifles if you want
