  • I worked on this ship in 2001 during it's last voyage. My crew picture is actually in the video. It was an amazing and fun ship to work on and it's so sad to see the remainders of those wonderful times!

  • can anyone tell me why the fuck are they demoliting it?

  • @edcokmful It was broken up in 2008 because it was a rusty old heap of scrap with a blown engine & too expensive to refit to the new standards. Besides, people expect a different package with cruises nowadays. Outside balconies for example. Basically ships are designed to last 20-30 years and this one was nearly 50 years old... built for crossing the Atlantic in a different era. It's all very well people saying it could be saved but would they pay for it and guarantee the passengers to fill it?

  • I sailed on her 4 times in the 1990's - stopped cruising all together after the explosionbecause I never wanted to go on another ship. Now seeing this is so sad. I could just picture us on her cruises having fun in all these (now) lonely places. Kindof creepy. I'd sure like to get that documentary - and wish I had more souvenirs

  • my dad worked on this ship

  • What ever happend to the documentary?

  • I have looking the video and I like so much this ship , on the video I like the song , it's spanish or italian, it's possible for to know the title of song please?

  • where is the boat now

  • Ahw man, she was too beautiful too scrap!!

  • @Abricialio yeah!!!

  • The most beautiful liner ever !

  • i hoped shed become a hotel or something could believe they scraped her actually

  • what happened to her for them to scrap her cause it looks like shes in realy good shape

  • i can't beleive how it was just LEFT like.. basically just parked there and just gone. furniture, drapes, everything! still there. like.. why? how? and how can they just waist that. such a beautiful ship gone to waist.

  • Hi,

I just saw the trailer for your Norway Documentary. I´m very curious to see the full dok! Is therer any chance of getting it? Even an unfinished work would be great! (Even if I´ve got to cut it myself or to convert it to whatever.. )

    Thanks for your efforts,

    Alex

  • I was on this ship in Feb 2001 out of Miami just a few years befor the boilers exploded and I must say it was very impressive from a distance but the ship was very Lackluster to be a guest on. I was not impressed at all however the customer server was one of the best I have ever been on. I have been on 10 cruises to day and this was my least favorite ship to be on. I just like the new ones much better.

  • Boycott all WMG products. Let the WMG stock fall even lower 2010. Fuck Edgar Bronfman JR, one of the biggest incompetent waste of space CEO`s on the planet.

  • @Sooksawaspakdee961 hahahahaha, why would anyone waste money on music / vids / games or anything else .... This is why the internet exists ...

  • we must save the ss united states!!!

  • She was one of a kind and she'll be sorely missed. So many good memories onboard. She singlehandedly changed the cruise industry and made Norwegian Cruise Lines into a success. Then they were bought out by the Genting casino group and instead of preserving her like QE2, they neglected maintenance until she LITERALLY blew up. For the 7 dead crew, and for what they did to this ship, without which the company wouldn't even be viable, I will NEVER sail with NCL again as long as I live.

  • She was a nice looking ship until Norway slapped on all that 'shoe box' superstructure. Blech!

  • She was a beautiful, classy lady who gave me many happy memories. I went on a jazz cruise with my parents in 1985 and saw Mel Torme, Dizzy Gillespie and Cab Calloway perform. It was awesome! I wish I could do it all over again.

  • Anyway, our "pot luck" roommate was a guy named Eugen Hepper. Tom and I walked in to the room the afternoon of Day 2, and Eugen had already met this hot chick and was banging away on the top bunk. We never saw him again after that, so I think Eugen had a good cruise. For talent night, I put on a bunch of pancake and did Michael Jackson, complete with a butane hose to my wig, rigged for flaming, a la the recent Pepsi commercial. I think I won the talent show and got a bottle of champagne.

  • First and last time was around 1985 for 7 days. Captain was a guy named Haugen. Our waiter was Trevor Pink from Jamaica. Entertainment headliner was Vic Damone. The water was too choppy to tender to the goofy private island (Coco Cay?), but we did make it off in St. Thomas and maybe one other port. My buddy and I from college took a "pot luck" room on the Dolphin Deck to save money.

  • WMG is very stupid. Never again will I buy something from WMG. Petty!

  • WMG é muito idiota. Nunca mais vou comprar algo de WMG. Petty!

  • Wow. She really didn't look that bad at all! R.I.P

  • sad, just a sad sight .

  • I can't believe they removed the audio. It was wonderful...assholes.

  • im sorry but SCREW star cruises

  • Originally a nice looking ship, until Norway kicked the fuckin' shit out of her by adding that shitty damn shoebox superstructure up top.

  • yeah, those added decks really ruined her profile...but still she remained beautiful compared to all those modern ships. But it's a shame they added those, she looked so much better without

  • hey bring back the audio,

  • Humans have a way of killing all beauty, whether it is a ship, a place, or indeed, other humans.

God, I hate the Star Cruises fuckers who killed this classic. Fucking Malaysian cunts.

  • Sad to see her go,but she lost her looks when she became the Norway

  • I worked as a welder on that ship, just a pice of crap, truly! the outside was very nice but the inside was a joke.

  • My husband and I were on this ship in 2001 for our first cruise. We both fell in love with the ship, and were saddened when it was decommissioned after the engine explosion. Watching this video first gave me the shivers hearing Hot Hot Hot for it played as we pulled out of Miami, and then to tears seeing the ship that was such a beauty now in shambles.

  • So sad :(

  • I love this ship plenty of memories. How many of you remeber dazzles night club on the viking deck. Remember club international and the great outdoor restaurant for breakfast

  • what's the name of the song that starts at 2:45 i think, and goes for the rest of the video

  • What is the first song and last song ?

  • @ Gandalf- The first song is by a band called Windham Hill. Don't know the song title. That's all I know.

  • The 1st song is called "Close Cover" by Wim Mertens who was (or still is) part of the Windham Hill label. I think it is from the album Struggle for Paradise. I love that song, don't think I'll hear again in quite the same way.

  • the first song is Wim Mertens - Close Cover.the second somg was performed on the ship...

the last song is Josh Groban-oceano

  • Thank you very, very much !!!

I'm not stupid, I did know that the second song was live from the ship...

  • I'm so glad I had the chance to take it. We took our honeymoon on it in 2002. The presidential suites were awesome & the ship had an old school elegance. She was a beauty.

  • Whats the title of the first song in the video?

  • i remember i was on it in 1998... eight years old.. was great!. sa what it has become

  • What is the first song?

  • 100s even thousnds of years from now future humans will wonder how we humans were so stupid and lacking in imagination to scrap such grand ships, pieces of great art and engineering.

  • what happed to this ship?

  • OMGGGGGGGGGG i went on this ship in 2000! and i thook a beautiful pic of him and i have on my desk!!! and now when i saw what the ncl do with this georgous funship!!!! i cant imagine why they do this with a page of maritime history!!!:(

  • Back in 1989 and 1990 I spent two weeks as an entertainer on the Norway. Absolutely the most beautiful ship in the world. The theater, while originally designed for movies, was a great live performing venue. Wonderful audiences and a memorable experience I'll always carry with me. So sad it's now gone. Au Revoir!

  • what happened to this ship?

  • The Norways life is now nearly over there is just an empty hull at alang now utterly gobsmacking this beuty is gone......

  • I just hope the SSUS won't follow her. It's tragic enough we've lost the Norway in such a disgraceful way. Norway could have ended up like the SS Rotterdam.....:(

  • Every time I see this beautiful ship in the condition it is in know it brings a tear to my eye.

  • Very touching trailer, I'm really looking forward to the entire documentary. Well done, and keep it up! From Holland.

  • hi jus wonderd how much will this doc will be and whether you will be seling it in english pounds or will it be dollars?

  • I have not even started to think about this. But i hope it will be so everyone who wants to buy it can afford it. If you visit the website that is listed in the video info, you can enter your email on this website and than you will receive a notification when the documentary is put out for sale.

  • @haywoodbadman10

Gold. All the other will be worthless crap sooner rather then later

  • must av been a tremendous experiance to go and see her in her final few months while she was still intact now she is doomed nothing can save her

  • Yes this was truly an amazing experience! It's the main reason why I am making this documentary, so that I can share this experience with all you S/S Norway/France fans out there. The final documentary will contain alot of breathtaking shots from inside the ghost ship which she had become.

  • I am still working on the doc. and hope to finish it soon. The final fate of the ship was not determined until they began the cutting in Jan. 08. The story for the doc. could not be completed until we knew what would happen to her. But work on the doc. is moving along. Enter your email here: ssnorwayoceanliner(dot)com/doc and you will receive an email when the doc. is finished. Only parts of the ship now remain on the beach in India. Soon this beautiful liner will exist only in our memories.

  • I sailed on the SS france from NYC to le havre in 1966 as a 6 year old with my parents and then when we returned in 1968 as a 8 year old...and the memories of wonderment of a child and how well we were treated and the ambience of the ship is something I will always remember. this beautiful lady was never the norway...they ruined her look..she will always be the france.

  • the added upped decks really didn't make her look better..it's a shame they added those. But she still managed to retain her beauty, although she looked so much better without them in my opinion. But she still was a beauty :( she deserved so much better than being torn apart on that beach

  • As a a young french, I can't tell how bad I feel about loosing forever the SS FRANCE...I'm only 22 years old, and I have never seen her as FRANCE neither as NORWAY...that video makes me weep, I love her for what she was, for what she did. She gave me the passion about travelling.

She was still in good very shape arriving in India. She did not deserve such a bad treatment, it is not a way of treating a respectfully lady like her.SS FRANCE je t'aime et tu naviguera pour toujours dans mon coeur

  • I agree with you

  • je l'ai juste aimé

  • je suis dégouter quand je voit c'était vidéo et maintenant c'est encore pire

  • Unbelievable. I have been following the France/Norway since I was a child. My dream was always to go on a cruise on her. Now I have pictures and memories. Thanks for the opportunity to keep these memories...

  • the crew*

  • the finest ship ever build, hm, anyone knows the second song when det crew sings on deck? :) the name

  • if you whant to see her as of july 4 go to midshipcentury very sad

  • superb documentary, dedicated to a superb old ship... sad to see it go...

  • What a horrible crime to see such a beautiful ship in good condition be destroyed like that.

She could have been saved it was corporate greed and negligence that killed her.

    Shame on the owners.

I would have spared no expense in saving her.

I hope in the future they build a new liner just like her.

  • @mechwarrior58 ... you are so on target about the corporate greed killing this majestic lady.

  • Great Video.

  • Such a beuatiful ship. it's ashame.

But does anyone know the name of the last song?

  • josh groban - Oceano

  • what about that first song???

  • Oceanos by Josh Groban

  • Soooo a beautyful ship... :´( I'm so sad...

  • Too sad a video, it makes you nearly weep. But that's life, things come and go, just good memories stay with us.Same thing happened to SS Argentina/ Enchanted Isle. Ended at Alang. Too sad

  • great documenterary, too bad she met this fate.

  • oohhh i liked SS NORWAY and this is very good document about it:-)

  • Uh, we don't have ocean liners anymore; we have cruise ships. Ocean liners had a distint and different body shape. Their hulls were often deep and they weren't flat and heavy topped. It would be like comparing a new GTO to a 68 GTO. No real comparission.

  • Stop getting all sentimental ships only have a lifespan of around 35 years before all the metal begins to decay badly nothing lasts forever.

The new liners are just as good.

  • Meringdan-

Ships are more than just metal. Ships are something so much more. A ship's crew is her blood, her passengers her breath, and her whistle is her voice. There is something about the old liners that's magical. There's something that today's cruise ships lack and that's pride. When the France was built she was her nation's pride. It was an honor to build her and now there is no pride in ship building. How can you watch this video and not feel it? How can you say that it's just metal?

  • There are no new liners, except for the Queen Mary 2. The rest are cruise ships, floating resorts and they look like floating appartment blocks, really ugly. There is no new ship which even comes close to Norway's/France's beauty

  • new liners? what new liners? There are no new liners anymore, except for the Queen Mary 2. And she doesn't even come close to the France/Norway when it comes to exterior. The rest of the new passenger ships are just ugly floating resorts. How can you say new liners are just as good as the beautiful, classic liners. Those were real ships, the new ones look like floating appartment blocks.

  • noooooooooooooo there must be another way to save her

  • Sad i know but all good things must come to an end. wonder if you can purchase items from the ship to keep for posterity? It's the only way to keep this wonderfull ship alive. Gone but not forgot.

  • This luxury liner had anything and everything you would ever need on an ocean-going voyage!

  • And know just recently announced that the SS Independence will be scrapped. This is turning out to be a very sad year for classic liner's.

  • its made me mad watching this a 2nd time around..how sad. they must need there bloody heads read..what a waste ..who cares how much money it would take to put her right.. its a legend and yet again no one thinks. or they dont give a toss.. well i think its bloody crime what they have done.. RIP S.S NORWAY

  • I agree. it is a horrible crime ,

yet we must look to the future.

We have one liner that is in need of saving and it's the SS united states docked in philly.

    She has to be saved.

I hope in the future one or even I will build new and classic liners like her.

    Only time will tell.

  • how sad a great ship has come to this....what a waste.

  • If I had enough money I would buy this ship and restore her to her proper beauty. Letting the ship being scrapped and whatever else they're doing is an absolute disgrace! This was once a beautiful and lovely ship, yet why doesn't anyone care about letting historic ships live on instead of scrapping them.

  • tristesse a l' heure quil est il doi etre totalement detruit je pense

  • Je sais,ce n'est qu'un paquebot...mais c'était sans aucun doute le plus beau qu'on ait jamais construit! c'est une bien triste fin pour le France!!! :-(

  • She was the largest and longest cruiseship in the world for many years..

  • did the ss norway use to be called the ss france

  • Yes, and she became SS Norway in 1979, bought by Knut Kloster. My cousin was cheaf of the allmost 90 peoples in the machine. I miss her.. It is the only ship in the world who has had a taxi (Mercedes) onboard!!

  • Yes, and she became SS Norway in 1979, bought by Knut Kloster. My cousin was cheaf of the allmost 90 peoples in the machine. I miss her.. It is the only ship in the world who has had a taxi (Mercedes) onboard!!

  • It's a disgrace that they let that beautiful ship go far into disrepair. I'm very disappointed in NCL that they let a piece of history rust away in the indian ocean.

  • I would suggest getting all the facts surrounding the Norway before jumping on the anti NCL bandwagon. While I'm disappointed with her fate even the French, who loved her more once she went to Norway, couldn't make it work financially either.

There's a lot to the story.

  • at 4:27, are those spores growing on the steps?

  • there's something growing there

  • l think that renovation of SS Norway could be more expensive, than build the new liner, thats why NCL sold it for scraping. lt is only busines. RMS Olympic, RMS Mauretania and RMS Aquitania was also scraped.....

  • Nope! It was the boiler explosion that cause it. They did not want to be blamed for the cause of the boiler explosion in 2003.

  • I worked on the SS Norway as one of the casino managers in the 90's. Had some of the best times with some of the finest people. Very sad to see her scrapped.

  • Let's not forget the Norway was illegally sold by NCL. Would you ever want to sail with such a company again?

  • Why do you think it was illegally? hip anyway was old from 1960-ties, and there was explosionon board also, so l think it cant be repaired anyway....

  • Yet more NCL propaganda...

It could have been repaired, for example by fitting Diesel engines like the QE2. And it was exported illegally from Europe for breaking as it contained toxic material like asbestos.

NCL lied about why it was exported, otherwise it would never have been able to leave Europe. Check out SS maritime and you will find the full truth on this.

  • No it could not have been done economically and you know it. As I found out NCL insurers would not pay for it, her run down condition that has been documented under BOTH her owners. Very common for people like you to need someone to blame, ssmaritime feeds that need well. A website with well documented instances of playing fast and loose with the facts to achieve the goal of its creator. It usually appeals to those who can't distinguish fact from fiction..or those like you who don't want to.

  • You think it is cheap to refit? Cunard spent 10 times the amount needed to build the ship to refit the QE2.

  • I don't.

They have blood on their hands. A lot of workers will die from the asbestos that was inside the Norway. And NCL knew about that. They are responsible for the workers deaths and also for the deaths of some of the crew, who died because of the explosion, which was the result of bad maintenance.

And they've destroyed a beautiful historic liner. So much art is being destroyed now, it's just so sad

  • currently everything from the inside of the ship has been saved and is at auction just to let u know RIP S.S. NORWAY BLUE LADY and save the SS UNITED STATES

  • l just dont understand why all the interior stuf was left inside the hip when she went to shipbreakers?? Why all this stuf wasnt sold in some auction??

  • Anyway, old people died, old ships get scraped, that is life...

  • What hapened to SS Norway? Was she scraped?

  • In the process i am afraid ............

  • dan she was such a nice ship to be on but i must admit she was illegaly sold

    R.I.P

  • Wow amazing trailer and music, you should make a documentary about the SS United States and the SS America also.

  • The ENTIRE soundtrack should have been Windham Hill!

  • R.I.P Norway and save the SSUS

  • Please take your discussion to some online forum guys, thanks.

  • People Sat on that Furnitue! People slept on those beds! People hung out in those pools and hotubs! Just think about it.. the damn government doesn't give a shit... they need to think about what couldv'e happened with that ship.. besides scrapping it. And I wish I would have got to go onto that ship... but noooo... the stupid government and NCL say different.. She'll be in heaven, when we get there, she'll be there.. and everything is still there! Why didn't everything go for autcion?

  • All the stuff out of the ship will be available to buy.

    The Alang scavengers waste nothing.

Boycott NCL and the Alang Scavengers!

  • Unfortunately folks, whether you subscribe to the conspiracies or otherwise there are a few hard and fast facts. This ship is very special but unfortubately the economics of resurrection at this stage would be prohibitive. Most of the mechanical / electrical services would be unserviceable and that's after you've dealt with 100's of tons of asbestos that is probably now deteriorating. I actually wouldn't set foot on her now without a respirator for that very reason. Very sad but reality.

  • Is the documentary going to be released?.

If you want to show it on TV, just ask TV2, TvNorway or NRK becuase I think they would love to show this documentary. Many norwegians would love to watch it, not just because of her name SS Norway, but because the whole story about the cruise ship is so sad and the medias in norway write about it all the time .

  • Dont know why they had to scrap her when they had a hotel buyer??? if u have any questions feel free to ask

  • Who couldn't come up with the cash.

  • Yes they could come up with the cash.

Project Bleu Ribband and Project Dubai coordinated by Rueben Goosens of SS Maritime offered the breakers THREE TIMES what they paid for her but they decided to scrap because of NCL pressure who said she must be broken.

Homeric9 has been posting pro NCL statements and may well be part of their team. Ignore what he says.

  • Oh my...I'm betting youthink there were no planes on 9/11 too aren't you. You decide what to believe in becuase it fits your needs. You apparently take ssmaritime's word for everything and thst is your perogitive. When I started researching however the facts are abit different than what you post. You of course will not look at the NTSB report, you posted all of its contents were confidential till it was released which is totally untrue. I suggest you look for yourself, stop acting foolish

  • LOL, OK.

    People, here are the facts:

This guy Homeric9 just posts anti Rueben comments and pro NCL propaganda on the liner community threads.

As far as I know, he doesn't have a website, but claims to have studied recent maritime history.

Rueben Goosens however, has lectured throughout the world, on cruises and on land. He has also enjoyed long employment in the shipping business. Rueben has a massive website, SS Maritime, with 50 million visitors.

    Who would you believe?

    Haha.... owned.

  • Boy you slapped me down haven't you!Interesting though I have called you out on 3 seperate lies you have told. The most recent being you claim the NTSB accident report on the Norway was confidential until released in its entrety. You are liar for posting that, I suspect you know so. That would explain why you don't answer for all the misinformation I have corrected you on. I take my maritime history from a variety od f sources. recognized both in print and online and none of them mentio Rueben

  • Instead of making claims that are proven to be incorrect. Then shifting the subject so as not to answer them why not take that energy and do something constructive with it? No, instead you decide to believe in a source who's credentials barely exist after the outrageous claims he made on the Norway. The tragedy is you have decided to remain ignorant, nothing will change that but you. Other liner threads aren't me that I'm aware of. Just others who believe in common sense and balanced debate.

  • Reuben Goossens is one of the world's LEADING authorities on liners and cruise ships.

Oh yes, but you choose to ignore that fact. He IS a leading lecturer and historian. Just Google "reuben goossens" if anyone doesn't believe me. You will find loads of reference to his discussions on maritime history via some important websites, books etc.

Google homeric9 and you get the square root of fuck all. Zilch wrt important history. A couple of references to a sockpuppet on You Tube if you are lucky.

  • I'll just have to ask you yet again titan. Why is it when you are corrected on the 3 seperate lies you have told do you not address them. You are a liar for saying the NTSB report was confidential until released. You either never bothered to research that one on your own or you are as pathetic as you sound and took the word of another person. By taking someone else's word you have been made a fool. In particular titan the report in question is free for the asking! Stop making a fool of yourself.

  • Exactly what is important to you titan? it is a bit confusing as you seem to concentrate less on the Norway and more defending Mr. Goossens, which is it? No doubt the platform of ssmaritme is huge and as a WHOLE has brought 50m hits, never denied it. You seem to be caught up in defending ssmaritime than asking yourself if there is indeed more to this? Remaining sheltered and ignorant is where you feel most comfortable. Try addressing the issues, you might not come off sounding like such a loon

  • I never said the NTSB report was confidential. You are confusing me with someone else, so get your facts straight on that. In any case that report is irrelevant. There were issues that need to be addressed and NCL should have addressed them instead of getting involved with illegal ship disposal.

There is not much to be done to save the Norway now. However, you seems to spend your time attacking Reuben and he should be defended. That's why I have replied, to correct your lies.

    Boycott NCL now!

  • You did say that, anyone here can read the comments and see you posting. Why you would lie (again) when the proof is in your own words is simply childish. Note in this last post you made is the only time you address the issue of the report. Now that you address it perhaps maybe you'll ask for your free copy of it and then maybe educate yourself in the details of this incident. I suspect you won't however. You simply need to hand onto ssmarimte's version of events.

  • The report is irrelevant? You admitted not even seeing it and you call it irrelevant?! And you would know the sepcifics of the issues that needed addressing from whom? of course, ssmaritime's version of events. Anyone who makes statements that can be easily proven to be false sets themselves up for the results and ssmaritime has done just that. But hey, you make an awesome chearleader. And when you're offered a glass of KoolAid by ssmaritime....don't take it.

  • *WARNING WARNING*

This guy homeric9 is part of the NCL/Priya Blue propaganda team.

Don't listen to anything he says. He has been posting anti SSmaritime comments and anti Reuben commnets and anti Norway comments all over You Tube.

There have been MASSIVE virus attacks on ssmaritime and sites which give the truth about the illegal sale of the Norway.

There are all kinds of shady characters trying to cover up for NCL and the breakers. Watch out for them!

    *WARNING WARNING*

  • Wow you are one paranoid guy! Nope, sorry to disappoint you and your fantasies. But you have again proven my point for the fourth time I can see. You would rather tow the line on this point than actually research this with other interested maritime enthuasists. I'm suspecting you're from the office of ssmaritime. Would stand to reason but then again you could be a blind faith follower of ssmaritime. I mean Jim Jones had his followers too. But come on, get serious! You sound like a child.

  • You keep saying everyone is acting as a chld realy when it's yourself. You are doing the same thing you condem everyone else for!

  • Where else exactly have I been posting these "anti rueben comments"? Besides this forum there is one other I am aware of I have posted on the Norway. Hardly qualifies as "all over". Could it be your attempt at yet more drama? More than likely...how's the cruise going?

Note he'll never answer, he'll change the subject like he always does.

  • If you look when his account was made it is within the same time period of the SS Norways ending fate!!! just to help support your evidance?

  • Good bye SS Norway R.I.P may u sail for eternity

  • Good Bye , Pretty Lady............

  • R.I.P SS NORWAY :(

  • This trailer has been out for over a yr, where is the video? The effort deserves a nice mention but the guys over at ssnorway are no marketers. Why do you sell items on the Norwegian auction site only? (besides your own site). The Norwegian site eliminates 90% of your potential client base because we don't speak the language! You've sold some nice items on that site dirt cheap because nobody can bid due to the language barrier. Nor do you guys follow through with specific requests.

  • Society needs to STEP UP and Take the S.S. Norway out of that hell hole and take her into U.S. Waters.. She doesn't need this shitty treatment.. NCL should've not exported her. She is a beautiful ship, even though there is some damage on the interior, she is still a Beatiful ship. And if the Norway went out of service not that long ago, they just need to fix the engies and put her back into service, though, I must admit.. it might take a while.. but it'll take a good while.

  • The SS Norway is being cut up right now. The nose has been cut off, there are 16 holes cut into the hull, the mast and top two decks have been removed. They have prepared the funnels for removal by stripping them of all radar equipment.

    ssmaritime has pics.

  • this is a true reflection that nothing lasts forever on this earth, no matter how we try to keep it the laws of nature are not plyable.

Sad but true..... I'm living testamony ... and so are you.

  • No one is at fault here. NCL is not to blame. The ship's boiler blast in 2003 crippled her. NCL sent her to Bremerhaven to try to fix her, but the expenses were so high that letting her go was the only way. The costs of running her was also overpowering her total profit. Anyways, NCL tried to sell her, but time ran out before a bidder could claim her. Her needs of constant maintenience did not please anyone. Alas, she was sent to be scrapped. It was the only way. She will be remembered always.

  • The only reason the boiler exploded is because NCL Neglected routine mantiance on it, go read the NTSB report on the accident

Im not saying she should have been brought back into service, but preserved in France would have been nice

and I dont suppose I need to tell you that the way in which Star Cruise/NCL exported her to India broke International Law, and the Basel Convention. along with many other International Laws regarding the export of toxic waste

  • Very, very sad. Is that Andrea Bocelli? If it is, can anyone tell me what song is it?

  • It's Josh Groban - Oceano

  • Ships like this are really shame.

Cunard Queens have the luxury for not being scrapped after retirement.

  • NCL should be ahsamed of themselves. The ship that changed the cruise industry forever and they couldn't even save her as a museum. Shame on NCL.

  • I agree.. they should have done more...

  • NCL needed it destroyed because it was evidence for poor boiler/engine room maintenance. They had blood on their hands from the explosion that killed 8 people. It would have also exposed their hiring practices dodging laws that kept workers in safe conditions and payed reasonable wages. Workers who survived the explosion said the ship was in terrible condition.

  • Actually.. the ship didn't belong to NCL at all, it was owned by the mother company, Star, and they TRIED to get a new boiler for her over a few years, but no company could deliver at a cost that would make it viable. And furthermore, there was no port big enough, with cash enough to make her into a hotel. The NTSB report clears the NCL for any wrong doing.. The decision to sell her for scrap was made my Star eventually. The NCL are trying to save the United States, and so your comment is unfair

  • They could have did an engine conversion to diesel if they truly wanted to save her. If they weren't willing to do that for the SS Norway when it was still sea worthy and only needed an engine conversion and interior updates, then there is no way in hell they are going to save the SS United States that is nothing but an empty hulk of steel. They will scrap the SS United States as soon as this outcry settles for the Norway. If Dubai can fit the QE2, they could have fit the Norway.
