Hm, I read on a webpage that people only were concerned that the long arch bridge would collapse once a heavy train passed over it, they knew it would stand on its own. Brunel therefore left the scaffolding in place, although he made sure they lowered it slightly so that it appeared to be a supporting part of the bridge, whereas it didn't actually have contact with the bridge.
A year later a flood washed away most of the scaffolding but the bridge remained safe and sound.
(Sir) Isambard Kingdom Brunel was a complete genius. What he achieved in one (short) lifetime, most people wouldn't achieve in three (normal) lifetimes.
9:15 Typical England we set up an impossibe task to complete deliberately to obstruct someone of great thinking, only to be out done and out thought by someone who just did it anyway. Epitome of Brunel.
Anyone else watching this for Aloys year 9 english?

Next time im in London I think I might visit that wide arched bridge. 11 miles west of London? It'll be in zone 6, I think.

Brunel was an amazing man, and Jerimy clarkson is a good host.
