He performed in LA in 84 @ Club Lingere during our Friday Nights in New Orleans programs that I helped put on. (I picked him up at the airport etc. and spun records during breaks). Amazing; Totally rocked the place. Had an uptempo tune that I believe was called "Why should I feel blue?" and during the solo part he cupped the microphone and I swear it was an amalgamation of a trumpet and tenor sax that emanated from his voice! Unbelieveable. You had to have been there. What an experience!
Thank you SO MUCH for posting this -- I was lucky enough to see him at the 1996 New Orleans Heritage Festival -- truly one of the all time greatest voices !!
What a fabulous perfomance from the whole band. A perfect lesson in ensemble playing. Dynamics to die for! Stunning rhythm section. Wild and passionate guitar solo. His voice is quite exceptional in its range and soul. What more could you want? Masterful! Can anyone name the band members?
It's a crime this man's work is not more widely known. I consider myself a fan of soul music, and I am just getting to know this cat. RIP Johnny.

Thank You, for this ..what can I say..spiritual experience!
"Pipes" unparalleled as far as I'm concerned.
They called him "The Tan Nightingale".
I will allways know him as The Man!
Leather lungs when necessary...delicate intonation as fragile as blown glass other times.
No one comes close to this! No One!!!
Thank You Again
