  • Found your Vlog when searching about what to do about Tomato Horn worms. You solved that problem for me, and now I've discovered cool things to do! One is just plain watching your vids! But you're giving me some great ideas for activities with my little guy! I think we're going to make yogurt on a cold yucky day! Thanks!

  • love your videos. please be careful heating the glass jars! if you cool them quickly they'll crack. i made that mistake once.

  • omg...i just thought of somthing awesome...EGGNOG yogurt!....how would we make that????

  • @misstresst we just shot a video on making eggnog, will have to work on this. eric.

  • @erochow

omg, i have made yogurt a bunch of times now...and the first three times it came out perfect,u know thick, and smooth...now, it refuses to get thick, and im doing everything the same!!!! grrrr......its like a yogurt drink. i still eat it,but wtf?

I read online sometimes the plain yogurts from the store dont have cultures in them even when they say they do? wht am i doin wrong?

  • @misstresst i let i sit in the cooler over nite, and it was good the next morning. wierd.

  • @erochow

    yay, gotta watch it now

  • what book is that?

  • how long did u keep the yogurt in the box???

  • @misstresst i put the yogurt in for about 4 hours, you can check it at regular intervals until its fermented to your tastes. thanks for watching, eric.

  • @erochow Thanks!

I made some yesterday,I used a cooler tho, figured it would keep the heat in better.I left the heating pad on high, for 6 hours. It came out a little tart, but its awesome!!!!!smooth, and creamy.Thank you for posting this video.I am so excited I get to make my own yogurt.Your videos are great!

  • @misstresst wow great. i use a styrofoam cooler now, the kind they ship frozen steaks in, my neighbor was throwing one out, now its the yogurt maker. eric.

  • this is AWESOME love ur videos

  • haha

  • i love the dogs

  • @LevanceFields2 thanks! they are great fun, and they love the tennis ball! eric

  • @erochow haha

  • Nice! I enjoyed the video! Beautiful dogs...

  • Hey next time you make the yogurt, take the jars out to your compost heap. You can actually cook the yogurt using the heat of the compost pile. You may have to leave it overnight, but hey you don't have to watch it...and I love doing things the lazy way!!!

Good luck to you and I really enjoy your videos...you look like a fun couple!! Give the dogs a hug for me.

    Keep up the good work

  • I got a cool device that saves me the electricity charges. :) I bol the milk first, then put it in the device. Basically, it's a heat insulating container, that you put hot water on the bottom. theres a platform that the bottle of yoghurt can be put onto, so the hot water "steams" the milk, and then i just cover the lid to keep the heat in pretty well. It sounds much more economical than your method of using the heating pad/crockpot. Just a heads up.

  • you can wash and rinse the jars and pop them in the oven on 215 degrees for 20 minutes too.

  • I love your video, and I already buy that book too. I love it. And I make the yogurt with milk powder it turn out great I was looking this type of yogurt for years. Where dId you buy dry milk powder? I look at Whole Food they carry small package and Trader Joe won't either. please reply me And Thanks for the video.

  • thx for watching! i got the milk powder at the regular large grocery store near my house in CT. wasn't hard to find here. thx, eric.

  • What is the grocery store called? i live in CA

  • Another way to keep the yogurt warm is to reuse the hot water from sterilizing the bottles.

Get a cooler and put in hot water bottles or glass jars filled with hot water. Put in the yogurt, on top if there is room. Close.

I also use the oven. While sterilizing the jars, I just turn it on enough to warm it up. Periodically, I will start up the oven for 30 s to 1 min. Ovens are insulated and this keeps it warm.

  • hi, just wondering how long the yogurt last for?

    also, i love you folks!

  • this will last about a week in the fridge, thanks for watching, more fun stuff on our site. eric.

  • I learn how to make from you, Great!!!! I am an EXPERT now.

  • thanks for the info!!

i´m making yogurt right now in the crock pot

but i don't put the milk into jars,i put the milk directly with the yogurt started in the crack pot on "warm" for 24 hours its that easy!!

  • that's a great idea, thanks for the note. eric.

  • that does seem like a very good book. I wonder if there is a good readily available equivalent.

oh, and at some point I will get around to making my own yogurt

    anyways

    good video!

  • the book is avail at your local bookstore, its still in print.

    thx for watching, eric .

  • oh, so it is! I think I will have to pick that up in 3 weeks when school is done!

    Thanks!

  • very cool guys, and let me say fresh yogurt way better tasting than the rejuvac( fermented cabbage) both really work wonders on the digestive system. here's an idea for it...

i use my 'juicer' to flavor the yogurt all kinds ways. the sky is the limit.

    peace

    peace

  • thx. the fresh yogurt is so much better, and hand made. eric.

  • I found that book a few years ago at a book fair at the YMCA. I absolutely love it. I've never seen or heard of it ever, but to see YOU think it's cool, made my day. I enjoy your videos. You're just real people trying to to simple things as simply and cheaply (and eco-friendly) as possible. I can't wait until I can buy a small hobby farm, and "live off the land".

  • yeah, that book is great. full of great info. thx for watching. eric.

  • Are you single? There is something about a guy who has time to make yogurt in a box! I am terrified of food poisoning so I will keep buying my Balkan style Astro yogurt. But enjoy yours.

  • he's married, he has a a wedding ring on his left hand.

  • yes, i'm married. sorry. don't think you can get food poisoning making yogurt if you follow all label directions.
