Elliott did not make music because he wanted to, he made it because he had to. He was compelled to paint these masterpieces with words, I feel sorry for people who are not moved by his music. This man a true artist and I can not think of another one that has come close to his depth in the last 30 years.
i discovered elliot when i heard the news of his death on the radio. they played his music in the backround and i thought "whoa fuck this is great". then i downloaded every song i could and listened to that for pretty much the next year or two.
Yeah I know. Where do the years go?I used to listen to Basement a lot on my discman when I was riding to school. All of the songs on it remind me of my journey to and from school. I was a bit late on discovering Elliott. I'd just heard him a bit before this. Then he died almost a year later just as I was really getting getting into it. When Basement came out I really soaked up every part of that album.
Can you imagine what it would be like if he was still around? I'm not saying it'll be anything pretty cause his bad habits, but i wouldn't care, I could talk to Elliott for hours I just have a million questions for him.
This was my favorite song from the show that night—I was haunted for weeks. And I was so disappointed when From a Basement came out, because I was hoping the album version was going to come out more like this. Thank you so much for posting this!
so am i, but all life is for me now is periods of kicking breaking up my life soaked in the blackness of h. fuck. amazing song though, just wish it wasn't true
i think this might be the most heart-wrenching song i've ever heard.

"Just looking in the mirror
Will make you a brave man"
This line really resonates with me 'cuz my therapist tells me looking in the mirror, will help me gain more self-confidence.

the lyrics to this song are fucking amazing
"there was a parliament of owls,
flying over a city of canals,
there goes a body,
floating face down"
such cryptic imagery, look it up on songmeanings

The album version sounds so chaotic and that seems to fit the mood quite well in my opinion, though I like this acoustic version a lot as well.
rtbradle007 2 years ago 4
Yeah totally. I love how there is just a blast of chaotic noise and Elliott's voice is clear as hell.

Thanks a lot maxximoo.
This concert is one of my favorites.
Were you there? What did you think about the show? of Elliott?
When I was younger I had found the entire set on soulseek. It was amazing and what originally got me into Elliott smith.
You F***'in rock.

the h in my area went from great to shit (im pretty sure it was mostly morphine) so ive been weaning myself with codeine
its not a touch on the big h but you can buy a ton of it OTC for no price at all, just look up 'cold water extraction' on google
might be a good way of getting out of the habit :)
