from here it looks like (~2:10 or so) that his marshall is just a single channel, i would say for sure keep that right hand as clean as you can, and use your left to pick your notes when your comping his funky verse parts...if you can, get yourself an Ibanez WH-10 wah, i've heard that he uses it and they don't make them anymore... this is one of my favorite solos that john played, it really resonates with raw emotion, haha too raw for someone who is probably still under 21 at this point
