Two questions......WTF happend to the graphics? And second why is olive moping around like she got some bad news? If a programmer is gonna make a arcade translation to a 16 bit system they should have made sure it was accurate!!!
I loved the BIGNONIA conversions, also Donkey Kong was cool to. They were more of a scene group doing "unofficial" conversion I am pretty sure but that is what was cool!
I was in Bignonia at that time. Nice to see our games are still alive. In those days we converted Pharaoh's Curse, Donkey Kong, Frantic Freddie, Aztec Challenge, Zaxxon, Popeye, Bagitman for fun, no licenses or money changed hands. We did add extra levels in many of our games, but there were tricks to reach them. For example you have to collect all bonusses in Donkey Kong to get to an extra level. Also Aztec Challenge has an extra level. Bagitman has duo play.
I am a longtime fan of this game but have never seen it on Amiga. That 4th screen is wild! Is Popeye walking on his hands in parts of it? And this is the only version I've seen that has Brutus carrying an anchor!
I used to play this on an Atari 8-bit. To be honest, I expected this to look better on the amiga. Still not the equal of the arcade original. Ever wonder if King Features ever kick themselves for not licensing Popeye to Nintendo as Popeye was the original hero for the Mario games.
That Amiga had some really clean instruments on it, wow. I never knew. Also, what's most bizarre is that this game actually looks better than the arcade version.
You're joking, right? Nice intro, but the gameplay doesn't even look as good as the NES version. Also, it's far too easy. Brutus doesn't even look interested, just seems to wander around aimlessly.
What the suck it is? Amige batter then.

It's funny they converted the C64 version, including the cracked title screen message (Jedi ate spinach and broke Popeye), to the Amiga...
They should have converted the arcade version. This would have deserved the title "The Real Popeye"

They did license it to Nintendo, the 2600 version was a port of the arcade game!
