When Rinpoche knew the chinese were coming to arrest him, he would sit up all night doing Gesar practice,through this his face became distorted, covered in lumps etc as if he had some contagious disease, when the chinese came the next day with the intention of arresting Rinpoche, once they looked upon his face they would leave him afraid of catching what he was pretending to have. This he did several times. :-)

yes, i had two cousin sisters studying there. they told me their sad storied when they were scared even to cook food because of the smoke that they would let out and they feared the Chinese would spot and arrest them.. this was when they came back from a holiday and the institute was in ruins.. one of cousin is still there
Most of the monks n nuns must be from his monetary called saythar, i heard there was more that 10000 monks and nuns once.. he was so popular that china got shit scared and poisoned him and the most of the monastery was soon demolished.
I have read that they now have maximum quote of 1400 members, therefore It had run up to almost 9.000 and then the police came to destroy lots of cabins.
@khamtu luckily the Buddhism Academy in Serthar right now is in a great shape and condition now. I just went to there last month. there are no police checking and any other types of communists shit. :)
