  • WOW...I am so happy with this update, this will truly pass an Author a REAL value that the One always wanted. Being an Author, i am really excited, as i have been facing so many problems when my content have been copied many times with out giving the credibility to me. And i am not been able to help it out. But Now Google is doing it for me. Thankyou Matt and Othar for breaking this News. :)

  • Why do I need a telescope and a degree in handwriting to read Othar's script? Can't Google spend a few bucks here on some decent graphics or a Power Point?

  • Will you show multiple author images against a search result if a paper has been worked on jointly by multiple authors?

  • I really enjoyed this video. Thanks, guys.

  • Can I put my google profile in a meta data tag?

  • I'm registered on Google Plus and already has a Google Profile. When I link to my Google Profile, I'm getting redirected to my Google Plus-profile, why? This is really annoying and I can't use my nickname-url at Google Profile anymore!

  • Why are they acting like rel="author" is something they came up with. This has been around for years. This is one of the reasons Google is SO hard to trust.

  • @texxs01 It's been updated largely lately. That's why.

  • @dr798 actually you're right, I had it confused with the meta tag.

  • A lot of people use pen names in their blogs etc. How do pen names fit in?

  • The guy on the right is distracting..

  • @darkfox404 I agree.

  • @darkfox404 Cutts is a god. Have some respect.

  • One of my favorite Google videos in the last few months. Thanks for the detailed explanation of authorship, Othar!

  • Only have Google Apps for myself. No Gmail account, please enable for Google App users. I pay for it.

  • matt is looking buff

  • :51 FoLLLks

  • Please enable this feature for Apps customers!

  • Johnny Authorseed! You guys...

  • Great Idea! So good news. So now we may really now who really owns the content and we would know what is and what is not duplicate content. How I dint think about it before... great idea!

  • It seems the Google+ rules ( "use your real name" ) apply if you want to create a Google profile now ? Can't have a profile for a non profit organisation ?

  • So what's to prevent someone from linking to your bio page which is linked to your Google profile?

  • The captions to this are hilarious.

  • 1:07 love how Matt and Othar both smile when they are talking about "using ANY information" :D

  • Thanks for the video. I have seen many posts about this, but none really understanding how it works. It is great to hear it from the source :)

  • What if I want my author link to be to my own personal web page, rather than my Google profile, but still have an image from my personal web page that is displayed next to the result?

  • Is that you Matt in 30 years?

  • matt is in love

  • Question: how about «link rel='me' href='/google.profile'» in the «head» tag?

I don't have much on my Google Profile yet so I'd rather not use a visible link but I would like to show my face next to my website ( Bfred.it ) in the search results.

  • ???

matt, who is he....please google, let matt do this videos alone!

  • Thanks Matt & Othar.

  • Good overview of purpose Google+. After reading info in link, had a clear understanding of how to accomplish this linking (post content to profile).

  • This didn't help me much. I couldn't read what was being written on the board, and I couldn't hear half of what they were saying. Why didn't they just write more clearly and larger, and speak up?

  • Awesome visual tutorial! Finally someone explained it in such an easy way!

  • I can't understand your accents... sounds like 'rel-i-quiz-author'?

  • @10000Monkeys Rel equals author (rel='author') dev.w3.org/html5/spec/Overview.html#link-type-author

  • Using the rich text snippet to debug: If g+ is not the first linked rel ME (mind you it is the only linked rel author)

it produces an error "... has links to more than one Google Profile". Also the first rel me link is used as linked author profile.

When g+ is the first rel me this error goes away, but I doubt that it solves the problem and would probably explain why even after a week the search engine results are not updated. I'd like to see an example where it is not top right hand ...

  • I think you should have mentioned more prominent the rich snipped testing tool (can be found at the bottom of the link they gave in the meta data) and how long it takes for the result to appear in the normal results.

  • Pushing "tracking" to identify results. You and Facebook should get married and jump off a cliff.

  • Could the guys at Google dress more depressingly? Blue Jeans, Blue Shirt, Rimless Glasses, Side-parting. YAWN

  • Fix youtube app!

  • @yaroukh Thank you!

  • Fabulous format, very intuitive, a lot better that matt answering questions solo.

  • also the link from google profile can link only to the domains root page or to every post the google profile user posts on the domain?

  • Interesting, I think I Like this.

  • There's a flaw with this: a Google profile is required. So, whats the flaw? If you are a paying Google customer, i.e. a Premier Apps user, you can't have a Google profile!!! (At least not without using a different login, since Google is phasing out multiple logins with the same e-mail address.) Google needs to fix this - it puts paying customers out of features like this and Google+

  • @IamTheEddy Who said Google Apps was intended for personal use? Not me. I use it to run my business and like nearly any business these days, social media is an essential part of communications with customers. We use Twitter extensively as do other companies large and small. Google+ isn't available to us, despite being paying Google customers. Social media, inc Google+ has massive business potential and definitely isn't just for personal use.

  • Question for future Matt. In the future you travelled back from, has Google successfully enslaved the human race?

  • Something this confusing and of questionable value, I would see this signal as something that spammers manipulate, and legitimate authors can't be bothered to figure out. This reminds me of the whole semantic web froth. Maybe back in 1995 when it was all benevolent hobbyists, this might have gotten traction, but not now.

  • Forth! Btw, you haven't uploaded a video in awhile... 2 months. It's nice to see new videos.

  • Good work, appreciate the video. You should always include a whiteboard in these videos.

  • Interesting - a great way to improve the context in which content is being delivered on search engines. I'd like to see how webmasters start adopting this in the future.

  • first :D
