  • hey dude, do u have a mixer or smthin? wher do u connect the mics? usb interface??

  • @psychorockz123 yes man! I connect 'em to a firewire audio interface motu ultralite mk3

  • GLYN johns

  • old zildjians are pretty good, you should tune the drums a bit and they should sound better. thanks for posting this video and have a nice day! (-:

  • Good for you man. Looks like you did what you could with what you had. I have a suggestion for a better kick sound that doesn't even need to come from EQing it. This might help if you want a cleaner and shorter sound.

    1. Tighten the front head

    2. Put a skin on the back with a medium sized porthole

    3. Replace the pillows with something that will soak up more sound. It needs to have more surface area (bedsheets, blankets, pillow cases with very little stuffing)

    4. Aim the mic where the beater hits

  • Tight budget? Two 57's for top and bottom?! I don't think so...

  • @Undertryyke hey man! I bought 'em 2d handed about 50$ each... thanx for comment...

  • @Undertryyke In comparison to most studio-quality mics there are out there, 57's are very inexpensive.

  • @Undertryyke dont forget the £1000 laptop and £300 program to run on it, tough times, if your on a budget i must be living on aid relief!

  • wel if the last part of your vid with your mics thene you need you eq your kick beter!

  • @mathieu120011111 ok! can you help me and give me and idea to have a good kick EQ? EQ is really difficult for me ;)

  • you have made yourself the 70's 80's Black Sabbath Led Zeppelin, older Pink Floyd drum sounding:),not bat,bat realy old kind of sounding:)

  • @szakislash04 thank you! yeah we worked with my drummer friend to try and have an old 70s drums! happy to see you like it ;)

  • *watching video *

    1st. use a mac book

    *close window* XD

  • there's a little eq, not much. As I said, I'm not a drummer and for this test I played drums. I don't have a good beating technique, that's what probably procuces that thin sound. If you want I can send you a mp3 with my drummer friend playin to hear the difference.

    thank you for commenting

  • @ricodonna would you be able to pm me, i wwould like to hear how it sounds with your drummer friend playing, i quite like the sound

  • is the sound dry or eq'd? Because you have really nice mics but they don't sound very good. The drum sounds aren't full enough and the bass drum needs more beater. It sounds good alone, but in a band setting, those small, thin sounds will get overpowered.

  • what do u pug the mics into?

  • @danvranic I plug 'em into the audio interface motu mkIII

  • thank you for sharing us you'r video ,, and you can be a professional drummer by practicing all the time ,, keep it up

  • @samba66656 you're welcomed but I think drums is very difficult for me!! ;)

  • @ricodonna maybe you choosed te wrong machine :)

  • Yep - not bad at all.

  • i have only one mic (the one that comes with rockband) and it sounds awesome

  • @MINIMI95020 great! where can I listen?

  • @ricodonna /watch?v=VttqJ2G7xig or i can record something for you without the music on, :)

  • @MINIMI95020 yeah great sound !! can you tell me what kind of mic is it and where you place it? thanks you man ;)

  • lol i use 1 mic in a shed :D how cool am i.

  • @ochomooman where can I listen ?

  • @ricodonna soz havent posted anything

  • I'm not to keen on the bass drum, but the rest is pretty decent :)

  • @TenTwentySixBand ok I notice that, tell me if you think it's bette on this 2 vid :

    youtube.com/watch?v=brwkAQYO-eI

    thank you ;)

  • @ricodonna I think thats a better sounding bass drum, much tigher, with the EQ you should try boosting some of the freqences between 100-250hz and/or between 5-8Khz :)

  • @TenTwentySixBand thanks for your advises man, I'll try it and let you hear. see ya

  • @ricodonna See ya dude, good luck :)

  • Tight budget?

    A MAC?

  • @Henshrow yeah! I bought it second handed of course ;)

  • @ricodonna hehehe

  • its pretty good, but i like different tuning on drums...

  • mics : 400$ for the 4. It also work without a mac of course!! you should use cubase

  • so how much would all that stuff cost? would you still be able to do it if you dont have a mac?

  • @sebz661 You could do it with a PC and cubase I should imagine :)

  • sounds good.

  • how much ill this cost??

  • @twyfordcomets014 All the mics will set you back about $400 (U.S.) You'll need an interface to get the sound into your computer, and one with enough inputs to mic a drum set will cost you at least $400 or $500. If you already have a computer good enough to record on, then you'll be set!

  • hi. you actually got a pretty decent sound. i was wondering if after recording your motu ultralite mk3 puts every microphone into a separate track in your studio programme on your mac? because i have a yamaha mw10 and it suck because all my 7 mics go into one track...so i have no option of seperately mastering them or giving them any samples. thanks dude

  • @fatchristophoro

with a program as simple as garageband you can actually take the left and right inputs and record them to two separate tracks, and you can add to your multitracking capabilities simply by adding a usb sound card such as the behringer uca202

  • I think its very nice, i hope i can reach your level man, by the way you can go and check some of my videos and you can tell me what do you think about the drum sound, i use 6 mics, all of them regular mics, not for percussion or intrumentation mics, i need a more defined drum bass sound, help me out!! thanks.

  • Your mic techniques are studio grade. Your kit sounds like poop! Try new top and bottom heads on all the toms and snare. You might loose the kick head to get that really deep thud, push the pillow on the batter head. and stick the kick mic about 6" from the head pointing off center/beater. If you want clicky kick at a little EQ at 3 KHz or use a wooden beater. Get better cymbals. Enough said. I think you are doing a nice job with what you have better tuned and newer heads will help.

  • @earldrum Really great thanks for your advises! My drummer friend has just changed heads of snare ans toms... and has bought his cymbals!! we'll try your tips.for us it's not easy to tune drums! We'll do others tests and make you ear our new sounds.

  • i dont see why you need two for the snare but it seems to work... :/

  • @andreww04 for the snare, I try to capture the bottom to have an accurate sound so I can have differents choices in the mix. but in fact, it's true, the overheads really do a good job. thanks for your comment

  • @andreww04 idk if you havent found out yet.

but they use two mics on the snare so you can capture the snares rattling on the underside that the top mic wont capture very well.

so basically with one mic the snare will be a little more open, and with the second one it'll sound much more like the way it would sound if you heard it in person.

  • its a decent sound i like it im thinking of getting imacpro do you know if it would work with an m audio firewire 410 ?

  • @bcancun123 I 've just had a look at the Maudio Firewire410, I ve seen there are only 4 inputs (2XLR/2jacks in the back), so it's not enought ! but you may try not to plug the mic under the snare, with only 4 mics it might be ok : kick, snare, 2 overheads... I think... but the M audio will certainly work with Imac.

  • @ricodonna Thanks

  • learn to tune your drums firstly. there's heaps of videos on here, that will show you how.

Take the pillows out of the kick and put a skin back on it.

    Interesting mic set up though?

No hate just trying to help

  • @lienrodeo ok! thanks i'll try to tune but it's not easy for me!! and put the pillow out yeah!

  • You are not a bad drummer.

  • @DrowningYourMother yeah, i just can't play ;) thanks for your comment!

  • sounds good! the mics any way, lol. i just ordered 5 drum mics and two over head condencers and ill see if the sound is comparable. and the only thing i would do to ur set is to tune the bass just a little higher, not much. not much advise i can give u tho cuz the micing sounds good!

  • Yeah You did a Great Job with Placement THANKS!!!

  • I think it shounds great compared to most miced kits. A couple things I would suggest is to turn up the snare just a little and ad reverb to it but just a tiny bit.

  • thank you guys for comments I'll try to follow your advices!

  • i think you got a good 70's drum sound. but with todays guitar effects and distortions most of the small sound will get eaten, make sure what type of music will the guitars play, and according to that you could adjust bassdrum, snare, and tom frecuencies/volumes

  • A lot of the Led Zepplin drum sound was spill into the other mics in the room, and the room itself, which was apparently quite live and ambient. His drums were well tuned and he hit them really hard, so John Bonham was firstly able to pull a great sound out of the drums, the engineer just had to capture it.Otherwise,u edited a great video, new skins, tuning, and some room ambience would be good, also, check mics are in phase, then check again! : )
