Personally, I'd call it anecdotal, cool or funny, but not art...Art generally (in my case) implies beauty, emotions, metaphors. This just implies a microwave jingle bells.

microwaves use what the name implies, micro waves, which are "thrown" inside the cooking compartiment... it heats food by agitating the water molecules present in each piece of food, so if there is no food inside the microwave, its just waves being thrown at air no heat is made to fail or arc the microwave lol

When the oven is working the microwaves go direct to the food or anything that can absorb them inside the cavity. If there's no load (food) inside the cavity to absorb the energy, it will start to bounce in the walls and will return to it's source, the magnetron, making it overheat and fail. If too much energy builds up in the oven, it will find it's way to earth and will arc on any spike it found through the cavity walls, creating a spark.

as much as it bounces around inside the compartiment, they are nothing more than radio waves and like so, they will eventually die out at some point.

another point you are missing, the microwaves here in the video are aparently new and weren't on long enough to cause that arcing or failure of the magnetron... it could arc or fail but i believe that it is when it is operated for long periods of time, not for 40 seconds or so :)

BS! I once turned on my microwave with nothing in it and guess what? I ripped a hole in the fabric of space and time.

It was hell, I had all sorts of dinosaurs and space creatures in my kitchen.

Lucky for me I was able to patch it back up by microwaving a banana on high until it exploded into a plasma like glue sealing the hole forever.
