So far ccleaner and glary utilities have worked fine at keeping Win7 optimized. With ccleaner though, if you've never used it before, don't checkmark anything that isn't checked already, or you can seriously mess up your system.

Tweaks are nice but sense I went to windows 7 from XP I find optimization tweaks useless now I find no reason windows 7 does degrade but at a 100X slower pace then XP. I myself still have tweaks that I used to use in XP but optimization just isn't needed has much anymore. All is dependent on whats being practically done on the machine.

How not to mess up a PC? Reinstall Windows XP/Vista/7 right out of the box to get rid of Norton and other crap like their stupid MFG screensavers and toolbars. Get a good Antivirus program, like ESET, McAfee, Avast!, or Bitdefender and keep the license and software up-to-date, and read through program installs, don't keep clicking next, read through those check boxes, they say install some stupid toolbar or security scan crap. Also, get a good adblocker like AdBlock Plus in Chrome, or Firefox.
