is this a good alternative to the suhr riot ? cause i want a tube sounding distortion but the riot is very expensive. Would you have another recommendation ?
would you recomend this pedal for evh type tones his tone on all of the first album blows me away and i dont have have the money for a old plexi or the 5150 iii would you recomend any other pedal over this one too.
Love your demos Pete. I've been playing for 30+ years and you are one awesome player my friend. Your command of the guitar just amazes me and I've seen most of the greats over the years. Great stuff and I'm a fan.
Holy crap...watched this video yesterday, today I bought the ST 2 in Denmark Street. It really does as it says on the tin! You know, I was actually looking around to buy a badger or jtm reissue, but guess what, it ain't going to happen now, not for a while anyway!
Thanks a lot for the top quality demo....and also for saving me about £ 1200.00
Wow! Without hearing this pedal, I always figured it was for death metal and stuff like that. But it sounds pretty cool for stuff like old Aerosmith and Kiss. I'm looking for a good pedal to run into my Marshall Class 5. When I have the cash I might try one of these.
hey guys, question for you all. i know it is meant to use over a Clean tone to get lots of awsome distortion. but it you use it on the Overdrive setting of an amp, will it give you endless static like an Overdrive pedal gives you over your overdrive amp tone? i know whenever i use an Overdrive Pedal with an already distorted amp, it produces endless fuzz. will this pedal do that, or remain clean?
@julianoacustico they are stock Suhr single coil T pickups..... if you contact the folks at suhr and say "what's in Pete Thorn's Classic T" they will be able to tell ya....
Pete, you are great. This is one of the best demos I've ever seen on youtube. I really love the tone of that modern guitar from Suhr through ST-2. Can you please tell me specs of that guitar...tonewoods,pickups,etc.
Im gettin back into my guitart and need a pedal I use to own a metal zone but i sold that. So my question is what is better for metal, ml-2 or the power stack?
Thanks for all the great demos Pete ... for someone as busy as yourself it's greatly appreciated that you actually sit down and put these products through their paces with various guitars .. this is such a great service for us musicians who rely on such demos before making a purchase ... and I'm kicking myself in the ass for not checking out your show with M. Etheridge in Sudbury , Canada ... I would of loved to of seen you live ! Fantastic playing ... someone who can shred with taste=AWESOME !
this pedal sounds great, even if its not exactly exactly a tube amp, cause its not, but then if you cant play something good out of it, then be sure its you and a tube amp would be a waste of money
Hi guys- so to answer some of your questions- i really like this pedal below 1 or 2 o'clock or so on the gain- that's plenty of distortion! Above that is diminishing returns I think...
Thorn! Dude I need some help! I got one of those pedals today and it sound great on higher gain settings but I get some serious feedback when I go past 12 O' clock on the sound knob. I don't really have any noise surpressors or gates or anything so do you have one of those or are you just running the pedal straight into the amp? Cause I don't hear any feedback on yours.
The Power Stack pedal really makes humbucking pickups come alive with gobs of tone! It's balls-out heavy with a nice midrange punch -- doesn't scoop the mids like so many tone-sucking distortion pedals. I think I might upgrade from my Boss DS-1 to this monster tone machine!
Hey Pete,Im Thorn between the Boss Power Stack ST2 and Suhr Riot which is of the two of the better sounding, need a nice distortion pedal for my Fender Deluxe Reverb...
This demo by Mr. Thorn is the clearest, most informative small gear demo I've seen so far. Tasteful guitar chops too, but focused on serving the demo and helping us hear the gear's potential. Good job! I will sure try one of those.
Got here from a link from my new BOSS/Roland newsletter sub, via registering my UA-25EX USB Capture interface. Great gear too!
Holy crap Pete, this sounds awesome, as usual. Is it me, or are there now a bunch of great sounding, natural feeling overdrive pedals, where there were only a few maybe 5 years ago!?
the more i hear this pedal..the more i like it. Looking for that good dist box thats flexible. metal zone is good.. but one sided tone wise. this pedal can shred.. but also sounds fabulous with strats in a bluesy rig.... 2 more weeks and I will have it... cannot wait..
Pete, how about an instrumental album dude? Would love to hear more our your stuff. Thanks for all the demo's. My wife is not a fan of yours as I buy lots of the stuff you demo! HA!
I don't know how you can get such an amazing tone no matter what you plug into. Your tone is always so juicy. I've spent so many hours trying to capture the sound of my FTR but i just can't do it. So i'm thinking the key is two different mics on the cab like you.
Excellent demo Pete - that first track you play at 3:45 sounds fantastic. The pedal may have some potential for sure. The drum track for the tunes, is that a live drum track or did you piece it together with a DAW? Regardless, it sounded great. It made me immediately think of something off a Steve Morse album. Great stuff!
@swyitch hi, it's the clean channel of my signature amp- the PT100. It is basically like a Fender Twin on the clean channel. Cab is a Bogner 1-12" with a Scumback 65watt M75.
I usually hate boss distortion. But you make it sound great. I'm sure it's a little better than the stuff I have experienced but you are really great so I'm going to assume it's just you that sounds awesome and not this thing.
That Suhr T is amazing! I got a Warmoth custom T to get put together once I get home from College. Seeing your awesome Suhr T is not helping my Guitar Acquisition Syndrome in terms of missing my new guitar I haven't even played yet.
Honestly, Pete is such a good player that any gear he uses sounds amazing. If I keep watching this stuff I'm gonna end up re-mortgaging my house and throwing the kids on the street in order to buy an Axe-FX, Nova-System, Suhr Guitars, CAE PT100, Suhr Badger 18w, Boss ST-2 and El Capistan Delay. Stop it Pete, just STOP. ;-)
have you got the new Evertune bridge on a guitar? should be something for you as a pro guitarist? btw im not selling it, just think its great for professionalism.
I have an old Cube 40 that about 30 years old. I us it for practicing and messing about and I've tried several pedals with it. This pedal might be just the ticket.
good demo. didn't sound too bad for a boss pedal. they seem to cut bass on most of there pedals. this one sounded pretty good. You still recording with the royer r121?
Great video! I might have to look in to one of these I love the sound of the old plexys

@sinasl1 Wow.
This is what it says on his website: Gear I will only endorse/promote gear that I actually use!
Its a good thing Peter Thorn has integrity. With his Midas touch, I think he could sell anything.
I don't think this guy could sound bad if he tried !
I watched others demo the same gear and not sound as well.
I just watched him also demo TC NOVA system and it sounded great.
These manufactures would do well asking him to recommend presets and amp combinations.
Excellent player.
