  • i love the song but this version sounds a tiny little bit gay no offence

  • DOUX JESUS :3

  • Comment removed

  • hipster camera man

  • :,)

  • Beautiful. Just, beautiful....

  • one of the best covers i've listened.

    magnificent voice,

    il perfecto!

  • I enjoyed Your short Movie

  • such a soft and fragile voice. Lovely version.

  • makes me wish elliott smith were alive so he could be in A Take Away Show

  • wow.didn't think it'd be possible to build on this song... very nice. a VERY literal interpretation of this song that really breathes new life into it. amazing.

  • not a bad version, though i still prefer the original :)

  • And justin bieber is Number 1 ????

    Chris is millions times better!

  • @caaarias For as much as i hate Justin Bieber it's normal Bieber/gaga are first since they're pop... But think it this way, there are also a lot of ppl actually enjoying "good music" like you do so not all is lost! :)

  • He has an interesting tone of voice

  • The slight syncopation of the piano against his voice grants this an incredible lightness. I love this so much!

  • hi is simply wonderful

  • Absolutely beautiful, his voice reminds me a little of Patrick Watson.

  • WHY are the people still talking?

  • If only we had some Blogotheque-style recordings of Elliott.

  • this song just shuts the entire bar up. by the end no one dares talk.

  • I'm in love...

  • beautiful...

  • very nice it touched me....

  • if i had to pick anyone to cover elliott it would be chris garneau, he has the perfect voice and aura to do it justice

  • Enchanting, waltz like.. There are not enough words to describe this cover. I literally feel like I'm sitting on the edge of a lake staring at the moon in the distance. With nothing but my thoughts and a drink in my hand, thinking about the one I've laid my heart out too..

    I love this..

  • fuck that.

  • amazing taste he has

  • I'm a huge Elliott fan... have been for years. I can say I genuinely like this cover.

  • oh its so sad it makes me cry - from my dik!

  • we all have a different tune that resonates with us. if you're looking for something you enjoy, and this isn't it, why not just look elsewhere? he's brilliant for some people.

    that's allowed.

  • breaking news - he isn't regina spektor and maybe her dumb ass sounds like him... maybe

  • wow really great cover i love it thanks for doing this song......ha he sounds like regina spektor in some parts of the song ha

  • I know! When i first heard him, i thought he was regina spector!

  • never mind is written at the end !

  • what bar is this, anyone knows?

  • i like it, but i hate his phrasing

  • wow

  • the way in which he says "thank you very much" at the end pretty much sums up the kind of person he is.

  • @spatchycakes - so... what kind of person is he? (sorry, did't get it)

  • One of the best covers. It's hard for me to like Elliott Smith covers, because he was one of a kind.

  • i feel the same way bro, i didnt like this too much man, but its grown on me alot.

  • beautifully done sir....as a fan of elliotts its hard to hear other versions but in your case its a pleasure to listen too.5*

  • Wow nicely done

  • Ti amo!

  • This is an incredible cover. Wow.

  • ♥

  • I wish Elliott was still alive to see how much his music has influenced other people's lives, and other artist's music

  • BUY EL RADIO!

  • he has so much feeling in his voice. Love his songs...

  • wow everything la blogotheque says is true- go watch some take away shows on their website. it is soft and beautiful. chris garneau did a great cover.

  • his voice is incredibly unique. i enjoyed it.

  • i'm too protective of elliott smith to like any covers but this is the best one ive heard. also-this was shot incredibly beautifully, perfect

  • agreed. It so odd to hear someone else doing Elliott but this was really imaginative on the piano, i loved the way his singing style sort of matched the way he was playing. Sort of more skippy and halting than the original.

  • Si beau, si poignant, si sincère... aaah...magique!

  • so sad.

    I want this in mp3.

  • Such a beautiful and chilling cover song.

  • wow

    impressed

  • "It was soft and beautiful."

    So true.....

  • what a soul

  • best cover i have heard.

  • Absolutely beautiful and so haunting

  • Amazing, very good cover of an excellent song

  • I love the way this cover was done, and just the video itself is magnificently shot.

  • where the video go? please post again someone it is fantastic! peace

  • I love him.

I didn't know he was so cute.

    Lucky Guy.

  • this is an intoxicating, haunting version of elliott smith's aready incredible song. wow. very nicely done!

    :}

  • herrrrrrrro

  • well well well, what a surprise, hello to you to

    hehehe :}

  • wow...sooo beautiful and moving, i love this

  • this makes my eyes water . freakin beautiful.

  • This is my favorite version of Between the Bars, can't even listen to Metric's version after my addiction to Chris' La Blogotheque version, and even prefer it to Elliott Smith's. Thank you Vincent and Chris!

  • you have turned such a unique experience into a fragile masterpiece... dude keep it up you have conquered an impossible task. elliot smith would be proud.

  • I love that people are chatting and drinking away in the background...it is a perfect sound cape. Chris, you are so.....words escape me. Keep fueling that fire...it does shine not only on you but on so many others.

  • i like his cover over metric's...it has a nicer feel

  • i find this to be the most incredible. i say, if you're big on elliott smith you probably won't enjoy this. you'll swear he's doing this song no justice but

i swear he does. it's pretty; it's genuine. might not be his own words but he can sing them like they are.i get chillssss. blast this quiet song and tell me you dont agree

  • j'adore sa version,celle de Metric est pas mal aussi.artiste magique,chanson magnifique

  • i agree. metric is wonderful

  • lol i know, but i guess they probably get a lot of interesting musicians in parisian cafe's, maybe they get desensitized..or they just don't care

  • interesting cover but didn't like it much. his voice is a little too ... gay for my liking!

the metric cover blew my mind though.

  • what are your talking about his voice is amazing... and tht cover was unbelivible!

  • are you deaf?

  • there's an emotionless, cold feeling you have to emit to do this song justice. Chris Garneau does precisely that

  • can't stop listening.

  • amazing,

    i wanna have the notes...

  • The audience becomes mesmerized.

  • the don't sound very mesmerized to me! sounds like they're all socializing and sipping their beers in the background!

  • I'm going off the shifts in their volume... true, everyone could have gotten quieter saying to one another "who is this retard? he's awful... oh good lord, make it stop." So you're right, I took liberties assuming that the audience was mesmerized by this... no, it's not dead silent but what do you expect? I think the set up of this cafe is such that the people could probably ignore him for the duration but I think they are Involved by the end....

  • My opinion... It's not necessarily better, both Elliott and Chris obviously have very unique voices. It's the emotion that matters, and as far as i can see they both put an enormous amount of emotion into it.

its not like one of those shitty garage recordings where they stop and laugh and try again you know?

    theyre both outstanding

  • Beautiful Video

  • Oh Garneau

    <3

  • it looks like he is going to die

  • This cover blows me away.

  • Anyone saying THIS is better than Elliott Smiths version is out of their fucking mind.

  • Wow, Um, I must say I could like this version better than any other - yes including Smiths

  • decent, i guess. compared to a lot of the other fuckin horrible elliott covers out there.

  • personally i like it, but i think elliot's has more emotion, which is what i like more.

RIP smith, your music has touched my life more than any other.

  • I personally like Garneaus version of between the bars than Smiths

  • agreed

  • a little too high-pitched for me, but good job

  • Elliott's original version is alot better in my opinion as i don't really find this version moving.Sounds a bit cheesy fake sort of singing. However I'm not saying that its bad but i do think his voice sounds like a girl singing. Just listen to the audio and don't watch the video and u might know what im talkin bout. Reminds me a bit like James Blunt

  • you could say the same thing about the origonal. It's just a matter of opinon

  • Reminiscent of a genius. This is a brilliant cover.

the location: a bar where people that don't speak your same language are oblivious to you and the song that encapsulates you.

Like a scene out of an epic movie.

  • I agree completely. Also, the simultaneously soft and metalic sound of the piano captures the true essence of the song like no other cover I've heard. The song is a lullaby, except you're trapped in the nightmare, behind the bars. Brilliant.

  • he has an awesome unique voice. Love it!

  • quite original. i like it, even though i dont really like high strung singers ... but well its the french accent i guess hehe :)

  • fuk off he is great

  • thank you for this video

  • rdv the first june ;)

  • He truly expresses his emotion in this song,,, His voice makes me shiver,, He leaves me under a spell..

  • he sounds like regina... sometimes..

  • call me crazy, but i do not like this cover.

  • yeah me neither

  • His voice puts me into a trance. I am in awe. Best cover of Between the bars.

  • mejor que el original! si no le gusta, por favor no mires el video.

  • i don't really like this cover nor this artist, i think he abuses too much of the whispering, there are a couple musics that please in "music for tourists" though, black and blue is one of them

  • I wanted to say I love the sadness in his voice. He really is singing it like he's alone at his piano, playing it for somebody who will never hear it. I love it.

  • I dig the piano. Really good.

  • its on his album.... go purchase it then :p

  • I really love this cover. I would buy a properly recorded version easily.

  • Excellant !

  • hum ...un classique

  • Intemporelle ..Magnifique ..

    c'est ma chanson preferée

  • I am in london

    Italian

    I love Elliott Smith

and would like Chris to be my friend, very very much

    What an interpretation, quite magnificent

  • :____)

  • I'm a big fan of la blogotheque..

and I think this, what Mr Garneau created for this little vid is quite magical! I was going through some vids on their website and I saw this and my heart stopped.. his cover fits the scene perfectly..

  • all the chattering!

stop talking people. listen to him...

  • well because in my opinion chris did in amazing job. that should be everyones im not a terrible person and dont think everyone has to agree with me but when it come to chris i have to be right............ anyway who ever said fuck elliot i say fuck you. elliot is such an amazing singer i hope you get run over by a bus so when you get to where ever you go after you die you can apoligse to elliot because he deserves 100000000000000% respect

  • gorgeous-simply incredible

  • i wish i could've been there. chris garneau<3

  • i hope you die

  • Seems like a lot of people don't like this cover. I rather enjoy it. This is shot beautifully as well.

  • i agree that his voice/melody choices doesn't really fit the song. Still, I like his voice elsewhere

  • He's an amazing singer, but I don't think this song is really right for him.

Still, he did a good job, could be better though.

  • I don't think he "ruined" the song or anything, but I really don't care for this cover. Lyrically, anyway. The piano is really nice but I just really don't get the love for his voice. At all.

  • I love how every comment that isn't 100% "omg, lurve" gets major thumbs down. It's just opinions.

  • i tried to play this song on my piano

but i cant sing this gentle when i'm singing that high

    great job chris g.

  • best elliott cover i would say. not to mention chris is just amazing himself as well

  • god i love this

  • he calms me :) love it

  • this guy's voice is nuts

  • chills...perfect cover. enjoying chris but missing elliott

  • Agreeing with so many - as a huge fan of Elliott Smith, I've never found a cover that hasn't disappointed me, but this one definitely didn't.

  • Oh wow. His voice is so gentle and mournful and magnificent. Excellent cover!

  • agreed!

  • Vincent Moon is a genius at this stuff.

  • i love this video.

    & this song.

    i love chris garneau.

  • this is my favorite song of all time. and this is such a good cover. the best one i've seen hands down.

  • kudos...a good job even if it was perhaps a little melodramatic

let the song do that instead...dont force

    it

  • holy take it easy!

  • Love it

  • too much people do covers of this song but this one was actually good

  • this guy's voice sends chills down my spine. this is a beautifully horrific rendition.

  • haha yes..:)

  • Something you don't like in his vocals?

  • oh my.. beautiful.

  • Omg! I love the original song and I really really love this cover!! His voice is amazing, beautiful, it really touches me

  • thats some scary shit, but its like he is reading elliotts diary,a bit weird
