Johnny Eck is a great man who you can't help but love. If you wanna see more of him, watch the film "Freaks" by Tod Browning. Johnny Eck is in it, and so are some of his friends, like the "Human Torso" and the "Armless lady". It is an amazing black and white film. And every one in it is real people with real condicions. WATCH IT!!
Johnny Eck,, the Eckman,, the Eckster,, Ecsterola,, Meistro Eck,, the Eck-stetician.. What a guy. Despite having no body, and a head only, he could benchpress 289 lbs, and run the 100 yard dash in under 10 seconds.
@badideass lol o wow.. u kno i bet theres a lot of people who ask that question wen theres a person who has this condition and theres a youtube video of this guy who has the same condition as johnny and theres a person who asks the same thing as u! check this user out!
Johnny was a great man of happiness and talent! I love his smile and himself! :) <3 He was a legend!
It's soo enormous sad what happened to him later then.. :'( those REAL retarted robbers do not desrve to live after what they've done to him! soo sad.. :'(
Not to be gross, but did Mr. Eck have a penis and a rectum? Since his body was cut off directly under the ribcage, I was just curious about how he used the bathroom.
probly a cath and a calosmey bag..i am sure i am not spelling it right, but that is what i am thinking, what would amaze me is how that was even thought in the time he was born..
It has been said that he did have vestigal deformed legs, and all of the other functioning parts...hard to believe because he looks like he ends at the rib cage...Johnny was very private about this facet of his life, and refused to answer questions about his functions...
Oh, I see. I'm sorry if my question sounded rude or disrespectful. I didn't intend to be. I was just wondering about how that all would work. Thanks for the reply.
Not at all! Johnny had this question asked many times over the years...I had a friend I've lost touch with that wrote to Johnny when he lived in Baltimore, and had a few replies from him...
Robbery happened four years before the Johnny`s death (at 80 years old). One of the robbers sat on him and broke two ribs. After that, Johnny suffered a great depression and was isolated in his house (he decided this) for the remainder of his life. He even answered the phone when friends called him, and not opened the door.
No he didn't deserve that at all....I hope Karma caught up with those vermin...Was he aware of the cult following at all?? He is shortly going to be tattoed on my arm in his famous handstand!
@joeyvader I think he was aware of his cult following, I read a letter of his (written after Freaks was re-released) talking about how he had all these people/fans showing up at his door and how he wished he could be more hospitable (he was having a lot of money problems at the time)
Interesting...I heard ages ago that Leo DiCaprio wanted to play both Johnny and Robert in a movie...that would be sweet...by the way...I have Johnny on my right shoulder...it's the pic of him, head on, one hand on a stool...
@joeyvader the movie with Leo was first purposed ages ago, the movie has been "in development" on imdb for like 2 years, i've sort of lost hope anything will come to that. and I totally thought about getting that tattoo, has anyone recognized Johnny yet?
This is a really well done tribute to a very amazing person. I agree with JunkyardElite, he was a very hansome man. what happened to him near the end of his life was truly terrible, and it really pulls at my heart to think how someone could do that to him. Johnny you rock, and where ever you are now, i hope your happy.
no they didnt kill him, the just robbed and humiliated him, but the attack caused him to lose his faith in mankind and he became isolated and sullen. which was a huge shame because up until the attack he had a great outlook on life and a very sunny disposition.
I also read the book THE MONSTER SHOW a few years back that Jonny was attacked by burglers in his home shortly before his death-it left him dejected & he quoted 'if I want to see freaks all I have to do is look out of the window'RIP Jon YOU WILL ALWAYS BE MORE OF A MAN than those worthless pricks!
He's my Icon, my hero, my example fo a full human being. Shit, I wish I was older, and met him, he died when I was four. I feel sad. No doubt, he is the best of all. Perhaps I'm not the first but I've written a song about him. It's well know that the real humans are the people whom "normals" called a freak, but he's not a freak to me, he's my whole hero.
I think that unknown actors should play all parts in any future remake and it should be remade by Robert lynch who directed the elephant man - The remake should have an art house quality to it. I am sick of this bums on seats culture that hollywood use to get bums on seats. lets have some fresh blood and get some creativity back into films. Leonardo will just make the film plastic and homogenized. There are other actors HUNGRY to ACT. Bring back something worth watching. Get rid of the deadwood.
Loved and missed :) I saw the movie 'Freaks' a few years ago, and couldn't take my eyes off it. Don't anyone out there dare say a bad thing about Johnny Eck! He may have been called "The Half Boy", but his heart & soul were whole. Brilliant & talented, and yes, good looking too! Had he ever been married?
I heard a year or two back that Leonardo DiCaprio was signed to play Johnny (and his twin Robert) in a bio-pic....what happened to that? That would be amazing!!!!
I also read this news in Internet, but I do not find any more information about the movie, there is some news? Someone knows something brings over of this?
I`m sorry for my English... I am Spanish, and my english`s level is "0".

There is a page dedicated on the IMDB Pro version. The title would be "Johnny Eck" or "Living Half Boy" but I cannot tell you more about that. I'm sorry :( Waiting for some more news to come.
He functioned like any other. His "problem" his known as Sacral Agenesis or Hypoplasia of the Sacrum, so he had pelvis and small, malformed and non-functioning legs he kept into clothes.
Oh, that's what it was? Wikipedia just said he didn't have anything below his ribs, so I guess the contributor didn't have all the facts. I was wondering how someone like Johnny Eck would deal with excretory functions and development through puberty (since being born without a pelvis would mean being born without testes, which are needed for a boy's body to mature into that of a man, which Mr. Eck's body had obviously done). Thank you for clearing that up.
Anyways, I know sometimes can happen that a child comes to this world without pelvis or genitals (recently I heard about a case also here, in Italy), but these poor babies usually die after a few weeks, for obvious reasons.

I do not think we ever captured.
