Hi, I have been watching your videos and I find them really helpful, you are such a great skater! I have been skating for almost 5 months and am doing my bronze but I have been practising my one foot spin as well. I find it so difficult , I can't even stay on the correct part of the blade, how long does it usually take to get the one foot spin? Should I be worried I haven't improved yet? Do you think an off ice spinner would help? I'm really worried this will hold me back , it's like me everes
@ch9707 I am working on a one foot spin as well. The trick is to practice just spinning on two feet first, then as you're bringing the arms in, lift your leg up to your shin. The quicker you bring your arms in, the longer you will spin. Finally, land.
aaahhh i went to australia last yer..really nice.. reminded me alot of south afrika just without the crime. wer did u go wen u went t afrika georgie??
thanks so much for this i started skating today and i couldnt really stand up but like five mins later mi leg was at my hips and i wanna go in to ice skating more so i can do the spiral so thnxs for tips
oh not at all. as long as you can get it at hip hight you can do a basic spiral. for the charlot spiral you need to be able to do a split. this is my signature move
Nope, a split isn't necessary to do a spiral. As skatelate2000 said, a spiral will count if it reaches your hip or higher. Being able to do a split will make your spirals much better, and will make things such as charlotte spirals easier.
the bird cage spiral i was always taught was called a oppisite hand catch foot but i like bird cage better :) the y spiral & other spiral like the y spiral are both side catch spirals
your spirals are soo good! im horrible at spirals lol
I can do the splits- finally- but i still cant do a y-spiral so have you got any tips i could use because i really want to be able to do the spiral. oh and thankyou for the splits tips on your other video because now i can do the splits :)
Call spirals "Zweef" (lit. "Float"). And the captured spiral we call "Haak" (lit. "Hook") 'cause be grap our blade ^^ And the captured spiral with opposite arm we call that "Gekruiste Haak" (lit. "Crossed Hook").
it's call a charlotte because charlotte something invented it. "bird cage spiral" is actually called a cross foot catch foot (that's whta my coach calls it, i'm sures there's other names) the one that kinda looks like a y-spiral is calld a fan-spiral (it kinda looks like a fan openning when your on a back outside edge). there's also an open fan spiral where you do a y-spiral with your leg in front of you and without your hands holding on your boot.
I'm sorry, but I don't think my technique for the beillmann is solid enough to do a help video on it yet. I've only taught myself that spin, so my technique probably isn't that good.
Yeah, I did quite a lot of strength training. The free leg also requires a lot of strength because, once the boot is on, it's quite difficult to lift up and hold there (especially when your legs are as long as mine!)
The Charlotte Spiral is named after the skater who invented it. Charlotte was a famous skater, even before Sonja Henie's time who made the move famous.
I love the little beginning bit :) Ooh we have the same problem though - slightly bent knees on a clasic spiral. It's incredibly hard to get straight....
LOL, yeah. I actually bought the pants that I'm wearing in this video to help that, because they have straight lines down them, so my coach can see that my leg is bent when those lines aren't straight. :P
haha really? I also wear black pants (erm I think I mean trousers :P) with a purple line down the side. I've never really thought that the stripe would highlight the bent knee but maybe that's why I've noticed it. Thanks!
Most days I tend to do all the basic stretches, stretch my splits, and practice these spiral positions. I don't do as much as some people, but it seems to work.
Sometimes I deviate from the order slightly if I have the skating clips for one video and not the other. I have recorded the instructions for the footwork video/1 footed spin video, but as I don't have clips of me doing these things, I'll need to wait until I get back from the rink tomorrow (when I will record the skating) in order to put the actual video together.
nice accent i luv it thumbs up if u agree

It's usually called A cross-grab Bielmann or just cross Bielmann, but bird cage is cool. The last one, I dunno either, I call it the cross upright.

I definitely did a lot of balance work, but I also did leg lifts with weights on my ankles.

A clap waltz is when you do a waltz jump, and while you are in the air, you clap the insides of your boots together.
