  • Greatest Bass voice ever, and a personal hero/role-model mine. :)

  • today is my exam... and i'm singig this aria... hope it will be ok!

  • Moll is the king

  • "Within these hallowed halls One knows not revenge. And should a person have fallen, Love will guide him to duty. Then wanders he on the hand of a friend Cheerful and happy into a better land. Within these hallowed walls, Where human loves the human, No traitor can lurk, Because one forgives the enemy. Whomever these lessons do not please, Deserves not to be a human being."
  • @hearts0ngs "Does not deserve to be a man", is actually the last line. Quite specific (which makes sense with the plot and context).

  • I love high notes. I love the Queen of the Night, I love "Popoli di Tessaglia", I love "Quando Più Irato Freme"... but this is just beautiful. Low voices have their place, too. It is amazing, as well.

And I, as a tenor/baritone (still don't know for sure) am damned to do none. So sad :c

  • Questo sì che è un basso!!!!

    Eccellente interpretazione!

    Bravo!

Die können es eh am besten <'3

  • Bravíssimo!

  • einfach geil

  • Blond hair, blue eyes, and skin as fair as paper - yeah, good job casting THAT as Pamina, who's also the Queen's daughter and the love interest of Tamino!! The only real black in this opera is the evil Monostatos, but gosh, we can't show a real black guy as a violent rapist, so let's just put some dirt on a white guy for Monostatos. Brilliant.

  • Thank US political correctness for that---it is not even permissible to refer to Monostatos as "black" in the US; the usual dodge is to substitute "blue" or something like that (the original "schwarz" inconveniently does mean black.)

Kathleen Battle was very good at singing the role, whatever her appearance.

  • is that kathleen battle?

  • @bigmanbass09 yup:)

  • @FreddeeG thought that was her thank you!

  • Can u help me to write in german wat does saratro spoke

  • he makes me love men even more than I already do ........

  • I don't want to be rude, but either there's something wrong with the sound track or the singer is tone deaf. Not as bad as Robert Lloyd, but close.

  • @salmig99 What do you mean? This seems flawless to me!

  • q voz!!

  • ¡¡¡De Los Grandes, Pero De Los Grandes Con Mayusculas!!! Un Magnifico Bajo,

    Soberbio Artista. Verdaderamente Grandioso.

  • Bravo!!!!!!!

  • well, you should hear Martti Talvela or jaakko Ryhänen - before you talk about basses :)

  • It's nice to come back here from time to time and listen to Kurt Moll - the Intergalactic Bass.

  • Back-tingling !

  • I still cant get over that low note, so juicy!!! I can't wait to be Pamina so I can have a bass sing this to me =)

  • @ykaiilah i doubt that any other bass has such a strong f ;) But anyway, have fun!

  • @Bomenpulp Really? I would not know. DAMN its a sexy "F"

  • Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!

  • Really deep bass

  • No one has sung this aria better. If you enjoyed this, listen to his Loewe songs for bass voice.. Superb!

  • I loved this. It is just great. But, please sir, do listen to Martti Talvela's version before claiming this is the best.

  • @XavierBelles Talvela's progression from lyric Bach bass to operatic basso-profundo is very enjoyable, but along with the beautiful legato of Moll "No one has sung this aria better."

  • @TheVerdiBaritone

Gottfried

  • His low F just blows everything away...

  • Certified Intergalactic! The best "In Diesen Heil'gen Hallen".

  • I love bass voices.

  • Kurt Moll is the standard to which we all aspire in these arias.

  • As an amateur I have to perform this piece once in a while. Mr Moll is my guide.

  • I'm singing this next week, mine has a low E in it ^_^!!

  • Is that Kathleen Battle as Pamina?

  • @OlDoinyo Yes, it is.

  • Is this the famous Aria with one of the lowest D ever written for a opera ?

  • @ArieVisker No, the bottom note is F#. The bottom D is from Osmin's Triumph Aria from Entfuhrung. Check out Kurt Moll singing it, he is the standard to which we all aspire in these German Mozart bass roles.

  • @ArieVisker nope. you're probably looking for O wie will ich triumphieren from Seraglio.

  • Everyone is responding to the quality of singing - however, who is listening to the meaning of the text?! Mozart clearly had a better vision of what the world could be like. Long live the Enlightenment!

  • Very nice singing, and acting. When Sarastro hugs Pamina, seems to be quite paternal and comfortgiving! Wonderful!

  • 0'58' is so amazing!moll and the violins going up unisono and then moll coming down and the violins continuing going up!unbelievable!

  • That chick's German accent is pretty bad. But Kurt is, as always, phenomenal!

  • Marvelous singing! My one pet peeve is that he upstages himself in his turn to exit at the end of the aria.

  • Wieder sehr schön und mehr.....!!

    Wer kennt hört dieses!!

  • And the winner is...

    Kurt Moll...

    Best "In Diesen Heil'gen Hallen"

  • What a marvelous performance. Robust yet lyrical. Kurt Moll is my new favorite bass.

  • Not at all bad. If you like this version check out also Matti Salminen's act on the same issue. Very charismatic indeed!

  • Is das eine Aufnahme aus Wien?

  • Nein, aus der Metropolitan Opera New York.

  • Hmm hätt ich mir denken können...

  • sehr sehr schön .

  • Comment removed

  • i think when people in operas who are a Bass sound very cool when they speak

  • creepy...

  • Certified Intergalactic!

  • He is an inspiration to all us basses. Good job Mr. Moll

  • Seconded!

  • @Horusdragon Don't forget us low bass-baritones who sing this aria too.

  • OMG i am going to be working on this song next semester... mozart is sooo good to basses kinda like handel is good to baritones... sounds sooo good!!!!

  • I don't think Pape competes with either of them as far as voice production. Salminen is a singer on the level of Moll, but I don't like him as Sarastro; his voice is too intimidating. He never did singspiel, but I would have loved to hear Cesare Siepi as Sarastro. It goes way back, but I like Wilhelm Strienz in the role probably second after Moll.

  • Mon Sarastro préféré (j'aime bien Talvela aussi) jackbruce a raison voyez son Commendatore FAMEUX. Son Osmin est aussi extraordinaire.

  • check out the video of him as the Commendatore in Don Giovanni... incredible

  • long live mozart ,spectacular bass kurt moll

  • Kurt Moll is amazing and I apire to sound like him. His range in "In Diesen Heil'gen Hallen" is especially impressive.

I sing bass (as an amateur) and I would like honest opinions on my videos (especially Ave Maria). If you Kurt Moll fans would watch my videos and comment (positive or negative) I would appreciate it.

  • hermosa y mil veces hermosa aria

  • Hes just...amazing....SO incredible!!

  • Kurt Moll is simply the best bass I ever heard.

  • maravilloso

  • is there part of this aria that switches to triple metre?

    "wen solche lehren nicht erfreun"

it sounded weird rhythmically. any thoughts?

  • I don't believe so. I think it is just the way that he sings it. Though, I have never sung this song. I was Tamino when we did it =D at Centenary.

  • how does he make the b and the c# sound so low? i'm a bass, and i could never hit those notes right.

  • While there are of course right and wrong ways to sing a note (ie. not hitting it, singing it in a way that harms your vocal cords, or simply not singing the right note, but I don't think we're worrying about That), in the context of singing these notes, each person has an individual way to hit these notes. I find among basses, that we might have the right notes, but we push on the sound, or darken it. The sound is more in relation to his age, size, and diaphram work. So don't despair :)

  • I agree! but Kurt Moll does not make it sound it low. This is simply is timbre, it's a natural thing. An that's the hood way. If a bass darkens the sound, then he's a bass wanting to sound someone else, wanting to sound lower than he is. I thought I was a bass because I did this, but I am actually a bass baritone. I sang this aria in the bad way.

  • So, when I was a kid I wouldn't go to sleep until my parents let me listen to BOTH the Sarastro arias sung by Moll, haha. Meeting him when I was in college was like a dream come true....he is getting old though...

and any recording where Crazy Battle isn't singing

  • .. aunque corran xD

  • Dioooos! qué bozarrón tiene Kurt Mooooll!! :D

    Hay bajos que son increíbles.

  • Awesome!!

This is one of my favorite Die Zauber Flöte Arias.

great song, nerver heard moll singing this one before.

  • I'm singing this for this semesters required vocal performance for music majors, lol just getting some tips from one of the best

  • Ah, beautiful, I'm currently singing it too.

I presume you end it with the optional low e on "...ein Mensch zu SEIN.", right?

  • Ha yes I do, and I want to sing the last three notes Db Eb then E an octave down, but my voice teacher wont let me lol it was hard enough for me to get him to let me sing the E, but I won on that one

  • Wait, I'm not sure about what you are saying... Does "E an octave down" mean the e below low c???

  • One of the best versions of this aria ive ever heard

  • Maybe today. However, suggest you try to acquire a CD of "IVAR ANDRESEN"

  • no you do not, hear Ludwig Weber, Gottlob Frick Mihaly Szekely just a couple, Moll is good by the way

  • Yeah, I firmly agree with both Weber and Moll, not familiar with the third guy. I have found that every role I've heard Frick in that Moll did, Frick has much more power in the lowest part of his range, especially, for instance, Osmin. And it's a shame Frick never sang Baron Ochs.

  • Ok, I uploaded the best version of this aria I've heard, by Alexander Kipnis. Go to the link I provided in the "About This Video" sidebar above, right-hand corner. Click on the "(more)" to view all the notes.

  • Ice Master, you can't judge the power of a singer's voice until you hear him/her live. And I love both Frick and Moll.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but I never said I don't like Moll, and I was under the impression that live recordings were recorded as performed, including DVDs such as this, with voices remaining unenhanced. If I'm wrong, then I withdraw any of the credibility I felt I had on judging a singer's voice. But Moll, as you said, certainly is a master. So is Frick, and dozens of other singers.

  • mIHALY sZEKELY WAS BORN IN hUNGARY has Hungaroton recordings and DECCA made some, he was very good Osmin, Ochs you can find Simon Boccanegra in MET with Astrid Varnay as Amelia Warren as title role

  • Kurt Moll, a real master! I absolutely love him!

  • isn't this kind of a high aria for a bass? i've been trying to do this aria myself, and i have to transpose it down a fourth!

  • No, it isn't. This is a real black bass aria. The highest note in it is c#. If you can sing only a fourth lower, you really should sing something that is technically less demanding.

  • Yeah, and you must have quite the bottom end in your voice to sing the low C#'s that would be required in singing this a fourth lower. ;)

  • gives me goosebumps - absolutely fantastic

  • Those hands, large as the lady's head!

He's a very big chap, no doubt about that.

    Wonderful voice!

  • Sublime!

I had the pleasure of hearing Kurt Moll as

Sarastro at the Met in 2001 and his voice

had lost none of its warmth. The sound just

sort of envelopes you. Rich and majestic

    performance.

    Thank you for posting!

  • I learned to sing bass age 14 singing this song

  • Yeah, no.

Your voice wouldn't be developed enough.

It would harm you horribly to try this.

  • I was singing tenor unbroken when I was 13 so this wasn't that much of a struggle, just hard work. Where wasn't much breadth to the sound, and my placement was all over the place, but I was still getting used to my new voice lol

  • when you say there wasn't much breadth to the sound, do you mean more growly, or what?

this song is still pretty low for anyone in high school.

    Not fun to push.

  • The notes were there. I could get a bottom Eb, but there was no power below the a B. Now it's my lowest is a bottom Db. so mu range hasn't changed that much, just I've got the power to fill a large parish church. When I was 14 i wouldn't have done.

It's not that unsual. There used to be a 14 year old bass in my Church choir. Boys voices are breaking earlier and going deeper than ever before. Of course there are some boys which buck the trend

  • yeah..

My voice dropped like over an octave (from good high actual tenor to low bass.. :[ ) over the course of one summer.

    so NOT cool.

I have an Ab below the low C thats 2 octaves below middle C...

I can hit lower, but not much in the way of sound.

  • Why don't you post a video of that?

  • it's an F# smarty.

  • And on the upper end? Training for a bass as far as range is more concerned with building the top. The concern with the bottom is quality more than whether or not the notes are there.

  • Tuba mirum spargent sonum! :)

    Bravo!

  • great!
