Nader's tragic flaw, his (well-hidden) inflated ego, at the last minute showed its true colors. His blind determination to demonstrate his total commitment to a cause, come what may, made him unable to see or admit or act in regard to the actual effect of his campaign - the election of George Bush. He is not worthy to be anyone's hero any longer. Nader's shadow is an autocratic dictator, and he was completely engulfed by it. A pathetic, potentially great man who ruined himself on the dark side.
At least someone knows what their talking about! If Obama ran as a third-party candidate, would he be held responsible for messing up the Democrats? Of course not, he's Overlord Obama!
Beautifully put! People need to know the truth. Ignorance is not bliss, especially when it comes to presidential candidates. Nader will stand up for ALL the people! He is going to fight for the welfare of the people beyond any other candidate. The power is in all of our hands to change the world. I urge anyone who wants that change to vote for Nader. He is our only hope and the only candidate deserving the title of President. President Ralph Nader has a nice ring to it, don't you think?
It is indeed a collective societal perversity how mainstream citizenry just passively allow the govt. to run things, yet at the same time, feel the liberty to harshly judge their governmental leaders..... when expecting a certain change.
As long as the debate commission is owned and run by the two major parties and corporate interests, Nader, Cynthia McKinney, Bob Barr and other third party candidates do not stand a chance of getting enough votes to participate in the debates. If they could debate, we'd have a Nader or McKinney for pres.
thanks for taking the time to do this video!! i think its funny his name is nutty nader nonsense, cause thats what that guy and his repliers are spewing.... nutty nader nonsense ... go nader gonzales 08!!!!
Thank you so much for this video. I'm a current Nader Raider I have fought hard to get him ballot access in a couple states this year. I hate this idea that a vote for Nader, a vote for this simmering idea of putting _people_ not money back into politics is considered a waste of a vote. Its things like this that reminds of why I'm out here fighting this fight in the first place. Because I have too. Because few people will and America needs me too... For reason number 1: democracy.
Sea, thanks for your post, and thanks, too, for your work for Nader and democratic change. In a democracy, a vote cannot be "stolen" by any legitimate candidate who campaigns and wins support from followers. The real vote stealers are the ones who portray themselves as for the people, then support corporate interests. I mean Obama and McCain! Eventually, though, the Naders, Kuciniches, McKinneys will prevail. The people haven't yet learned.
Ralph Nader said Obama talks to much like a "white" guy and should talk more like a black guy. Hey Jackass, Obama is a Harvard graduate and is running for the President of the United State. Do you want him to talk "Jive".....and are you saying African-americans have a way of communicating that's different from whites? Talking from your butthole again aren't you Ralph...your life is at its twilight years and your desperate to make one more splash before you kick the bucket.
I can see why people have misinterpreted that statement. What Nader meant was that Obama is becoming a more corporate candidate every day. In other words, beholding himself to the white power structure.
It's my feeling that a sizable amount of Obama supporters are supporting him just because they like the idea of electing the first black American president. I'm not saying all blacks feel this way, nor am I saying that you do.
Take away Obama's race, and he's just another spineless Democrat.
I like Mr. Nader. I met him, he actually came to Kentucky to campaign in '04, and I really liked the guy. My friend had me use a camera phone to take his picture standing next to Nader, and he said something I will never forget. "I hate these things." No bull, no ass kissing, just "I hate these things." It cracks me up still. And I'll easily take him over any green. They will never have a major presence here, and I doubt anyone around here can stomach them. Nader is human enough to back.
I do demand a better democracy, I'm right there with you on that, but Ralph Nader is actually incapable of giving it to us. The people have voiced their concerns and even though he has the right to run, the fact that he is means that he hasn't listened. When will you Nader supporters understand that identifying the root problems is not proof of ability to fix them? He should step up if theres no one else, but Cynthia McKinney, the true hero is running as a Green and SHES the one questioning 911!
Good, I hope you encourage your more stubborn associates to still rally behind her when she beats Nader. Maybe next time it would be a much more effective discourse to change it to "In Defense of Greens" since it seems two or three of your main points overlap between them..
The Greens are the fastest growing third party, and I have always supported their grassroots efforts. I believe Greens will make a place in american politics, but only from the local before making a statewide or national presence. I never fully supported a national candidate idea. It's a waste of time. My support for Nader or McKinney is a protest vote, and this video is for didactic purposes only. Democracy first, politicians second.
Hes not completely honest he wont take lobbyists money but he'll take money from there spouses and what not , and knows it , so isnt it really the same at the end of the day.... And yes hes already dising you Cortmeister reguardless of what you think cause he is an eliteist , and you know it deep down cause hes 1,000,000x richer then you'll ever been and he looks down apon you for it , so good luck getting him down to your 10,000-60,000$ level , it wont happen...Ralph Nader 2008!
My opinion on the best candidates ranked from highest to lowest:
1.) Ron Paul
2.) Nader
3.) Obama
4.) The rest are not an option.
Since Ron Paul will never make it to the general election, It's between Nader and Obama. Nader will get my vote without question if Hilary gets the nomination. However, if Mr. Obama wins the nomination, it's going to be a tough call. I fully support Nader, and believe what he stands for, but weighing that against a need for a drastic change might outweigh it.
(Humour)I'm sure that Senator Obama would never use bunglers...well...well...well...well. I could not believe that he has even heard of the word bungler. No, no, no he has not...Obama is so different, so new and what planet am I on? Denial. Sometimes the truth is the truth even if I don't know it and don't want to know it...I know you know this but why does could country sleep? CFR and so on GE are very good at their jobs, I assume. Why does my country sleep?IRV or something stops "spoiler"!
I am a committed pacifist (thus my screen name) and I will not support anyone who'll perpetuate an illegal war or continue expanding the soft or hard US empire.
I am not frustyrated with the american people. I do what I do out of love, compassion, justice and hope for the american people and the people of the world.
But, like with my children, I let them have their way, continually setting the example I think they should follow, until they get it. I realize I am comparing the american people to children, and I am to a certain extent, since they are kept ignorant by an educational system that fails them in more ways than they realize.
This is the way to go,"I am not frustyrated with the american people. I do what I do out of love, compassion, justice and hope for the american people and the people of the world." Gravel says that the American people are a people of conscience and their leaders must call upon that conscience. Love heals, hate just turns us blind and more hateful.
I would love to believe that about Obama, but I will remian pragmatic. He has to prove himself. I did like his speech on race, but I agree with his former pastor Rev Wright, too, who was saying vitually the same things Dr. King was saying, only with a bit more fire.
As for McCain becoming president. I don't see much difference between him and Hilarity Clinton. She is a hawk, too.
Last 3, this nation's "greatness" comes on the backs of poor and working people throughout the world. Meanwhile the rich get obscenely richer. We live in an empire of the most nefarious kind in history because we have the power to destroy the earth, period! I want that power in the hands of someone I trust, someone I know will work to dismantle the system. Someone I know will build a world community, not a global empire. I do this for my children and grandchildren.
last part 2, If I seem sensitive on these issues, it's because I've studied them both professionally and personally for over 20 years. I was a teacher for 15 years in a large poor urban predominately black school. I saw how lives are taken before they get started. I saw how the educational system steals a kid's future before he gets there. I met a woman from Honduras who spent 13 days in a hole filled to her neck with water because she tried to start a union. cont.
Last, I am telling you that a vote for Nader is a protest vote, that tells the Dems that Kucinich is our candidate of choice, not the neo-liberals Hillary or Obama. Neo-liberals have moved america right of center, allowed our jobs to be sent overseas, got us into this war, sold out our rights, and supported every cause of big business that they ask for. They prop up hlth ins. (how many die per year in that battle?) and messed up the education system that harm a whole generation.
That Repubs gave to Nader's campaign is ignoring the fact that large corporations contribute to both Dems and Repubs all the time. What's your point? If Nader had any chance of winning, he would receive all kinds of campaign offers, and he'd refuse many of them, if they had any strings attached. Moreover, Nader got Republican votes in the election. How do you explain that? That some Repubs might like Nader? Nader is no hypocrite.
cont. I understand people's lives are at stake, but people were/are dying under every president since I don't know when. Clinton is responsible for the death of a million innocent Iraqis because of economic sanctions. Clinton also signed NAFTA which began our worse economic troubles. Not to mention the telecommunications act of 1996 which concentrates the power of the media into fewer hands.
Cort, have you ever participated in a boycott? During the Montgomery bus boycott, blacks had to walk for miles to work and back for a year before the bus system changed the rules. Not to mention all of the other painful experiences blacks went through to gain their civil rights, being jailed and beaten. Is our cause just? Is restoring democracy worth more than our vote? Can we experience a little discomfort of maybe losing a campaign or two before the Dems wise up and change?
"Third Party means outsider, not part of the two party dictatorship. The Greens had a falling out with Nader in 2000 because Nader took the endorsement of the Greens but did not work with them and caused a rif in the Greens between those who want to focus on local campaigns and those who want a national candidate. The local campaign side won, to some extent. But, like Kucinich, the greens will support any truely progressive candidate no matter what, so there's the lost Dem votes.
I have met Ralph Nader on several ocassions in 2000 when he ran as a Green. Have you fallen into the same cynicism that the rest of america has? that you cannot see a man dedicated to a cause. What does his marital status have to do with anything? Or if he's gay? The people I know who are/were close to Nader says he doesn't date, never did. He lives an ascetic lifestyle, so what?
Again, if I cared whether he won or not, Nader has 40 years experience in passing legislation in Washington. Experience? That's more than all of the candidates combined. He knows the ropes and he's studied the issues from a truely progressive pov.
Nader's age would matter if I thought he could win, but like you I don't think he can win, nor does it matter. A Nader vote is a protest vote, a vote AGAINST something, like a boycott.
What many Dems don't realize is that the party of the people has sold out to corporate interests, which is why we're at war today--corporate interests, Haliburton, Bechtel, General Dynamics, The Carlyle Group, Blackwater and let's not forget Enron, BP and other oil companies.
If Nader was serious about running for President, especially in these bad times,he would be more steadfast between elections and try to build up a party that could legitimately compete against the Democrats and Republicans...instead of just showing up in the election year.
Om, do you like the issues Nader campaigns on? Just answer that...If you do not, then don't vote for him. If you do want those things, then vote for him or waste your vote on the status quo.
The two party dictatorship has gone on long enough.
I'm all for change for the better, especially for the economy and middle class.
However,I am going to vote for the lesser of two evils....It takes ALOT of money, support and everyday dedication to get an independent party off the ground and have the masses take seriously.
You can call it 'the status quo' all you want.
Until an independent pounds the pavement to get the word across...they will be a hopeless spoiler.
Om, I pounded the pavement in the past five presidential elections and several local campaigns as well. I do the difficult grassroots work you're talking about. The Green Party is the fastest growing 3rd party in US winning local elections across the country, and they will soon take state elections.
My point is, these things were/are accomplished by hardworking DEDICATED people who want change. If you do not vote for change, you do not want change, it's that simple.
I have no problem with third parties, or with ralph nader. I do however have a problem with someone running who knows he has no chance of winning, but runs anyway just to make a point. Or, just as likely, to stroke his own ego. Nader needs to give it up and try to find someone that can actually attract voters to head the Green party.
mcadger, Nader is no longer associated with the Greens. However, the Greens are doing quite well with local elections.
As for Nader "stroking his ego" I addressed that in the vid. Do you not want someone speaking to issues that the two dictator parties refuse to discuss? That's democracy! Don't vote for him, but support his ideas with everything you have.
I helped open the Green Party headquarters in New Orleans in support of Nader in 2000. I am honored and thriled that he has returned to play his inimitable role in this, perhaps the most crucial, of elections. If we don't speak up NOW...christ, when!!??
He is "BACK" because no-one else seems to have the backbone or skills for the freaking JOB. Thanks so much Ralph for simply being yourself. A lesson to us all.
I'm glad to see there are intelligent people willing to apply logic to this nonsensical "spoiler" myth. Currently, I'm attempting to codify evidence that debunks the myth and expose the deep logical flaw in it.
Please share your work with me your work! I am now writing a paper on this very issue... dismantling this nonsensical Ralph the spoiler myth Nader for 2008!
Mostly the fact that they are not running for the "first ___" (women/black) president, and they cana't get too much support/media coverage sense they are talking out AGAINST big coorporations(which is a good thing...but sucks that they don't get any attention). The same ones that own the media that pushed Obama and McCain to be front-runners ignoreing other canidates who have more experience, and could be better presidents.
I think it's very important that we elect a woman or black president. I think it will be a great leap forward, but we cannot elect corporate owned candidates like Obama and Hillary. It's that simple.
Yeh I know Nader is Lebanese.... I am all for a Black or Women President don't get me wrong... I think that be really cool! It's very important that it happens, it's just the media pays more ATTENTION to them like they are better people and could be better presidents. Ido not think that at all, and I will not vote for either of them just becuase they "can be" the first whatever president. You get what I'm saying?
The only thing the media cares about is having a women or black guy, they totally ignored the other people becuase they were not running for the "first___ President of America". It makes a better story I sapose if the canidate is running for the first___ President in History... But the media is allways biased I guess, what can you do? "peace" as you say...btw nice video :)
I have allways liked the stuff Nader stands for. The stuff he says is ALLWAYS right, and he has done a lot for america, more then Obama or Hilary Cliton probally ever will. Unforntunatly Nader, Edwards and Kucinich don't get the support or the atention the other canidates did/do for a number of biased reasons.
freedomsadvocate, black people do not see the rich and powerful white males as a conspiracy. They see it from a historical view, as I do. White patriarchal supremacy is deeply entreched in our system. Even Nader is somewhat a part of that system, though his ideas are a huge step away from power in the hands of the few. Conspiracies aside, much of what the Zeitgeist vid suggests is true, but I have a different take on why it's true. Believe me, I escaped the Matrix years ago: )
Thanks Pleb, as you know a Senate race gets less publicity than a presidential bid, and that's what it's all about for Nader: raising issues that the two dictatorship parties would rather ignore and avoid.
Nader didnt spoil anything gore won the popular vote and the electoral vote but the republican supreme court took it away from him .

Let's live in the real world here,OK.
So far...realistically...there are 2 parties.
Democratic and Republican.
Democratic is the better one.
If Nader was serious about running for President, especially in these bad times,he would be more steadfast between elections and try to build up a party that could legitimately compete against the Democrats and Republicans...instead of just showing up in the election year.
Until then...Nader is useless.
Omgitszztop 4 years ago
Om, do you like the issues Nader campaigns on? Just answer that...If you do not, then don't vote for him. If you do want those things, then vote for him or waste your vote on the status quo.
The two party dictatorship has gone on long enough.

I like Nader,he's a smart guy....but
HE'S NOT GOING TO WIN,SO WHAT'S THE POINT?
I'm all for change for the better, especially for the economy and middle class.
However,I am going to vote for the lesser of two evils....It takes ALOT of money, support and everyday dedication to get an independent party off the ground and have the masses take seriously.
You can call it 'the status quo' all you want.
Until an independent pounds the pavement to get the word across...they will be a hopeless spoiler.
Omgitszztop 4 years ago

Nader needs to give it up and try to find someone that can actually attract voters to head the Green party.
mcadger 4 years ago
mcadger, Nader is no longer associated with the Greens. However, the Greens are doing quite well with local elections.
As for Nader "stroking his ego" I addressed that in the vid. Do you not want someone speaking to issues that the two dictator parties refuse to discuss? That's democracy! Don't vote for him, but support his ideas with everything you have.

Amen, Peacelf!

Nice video...
I'm glad to see there are intelligent people willing to apply logic to this nonsensical "spoiler" myth. Currently, I'm attempting to codify evidence that debunks the myth and expose the deep logical flaw in it.

Nice video man. Nader 08!!
prede89 4 years ago
I think it's very important that we elect a woman or black president. I think it will be a great leap forward, but we cannot elect corporate owned candidates like Obama and Hillary. It's that simple.
Besides, Nader is Lebanese..
thanks and peace
peacelf 4 years ago
Yeh I know Nader is Lebanese.... I am all for a Black or Women President don't get me wrong... I think that be really cool! It's very important that it happens, it's just the media pays more ATTENTION to them like they are better people and could be better presidents. Ido not think that at all, and I will not vote for either of them just becuase they "can be" the first whatever president. You get what I'm saying?
prede89 4 years ago

If Nader is so awsom and cares about us, then why didn't he run for senate in 2004 and sign the bill that's impeaches Bush?
Good vid tho
Pleblian 4 years ago
Thanks Pleb, as you know a Senate race gets less publicity than a presidential bid, and that's what it's all about for Nader: raising issues that the two dictatorship parties would rather ignore and avoid.
