rite when he is fighting max schmeling for the 2nd time when he hurts him on the ropes he hurt max's spine really really bad b/c ur suppose to train ur neck like a shock absorber in boxing and ur neck bone is of course attached to ur spine so thts why he hurt it real bad when he got hit with so many power shots.
Great video, cool footage and slick editing. Thanks for putting this up. A former Casers Las Vegas exec told a story about the Joe Louis statue they have there. There was a guy "sparring" with the statue of Joe throwing a punch. The guy ducked down and came up and hit his head on Louis' "punch" so hard that he had to be taken to the hospital. Joe even knocked out a guy from beyond the grave!!!!!!
is it just me or does louis look alot smaller than the present boxers? foreman, ali, frazier, norton all look as big as holyfield, tyson, bruno, lewis, physically speaking
He fought when Heavyweights were relatively small, his best fighting weight was around 200lbs which is today's cruiserweights, It just shows you what shoking punching power he had for his size.
@TommyGun7111 fair enough. everythings relative, back in the day he was a decent sized heavy so with todays nutrition and whatnot he'd probably be about 220
he would not be 220. If he was smart, he would stay at cruiserweight, because that's his best weight. with todays nutrition, he would just be a bulked up counterweight, kind of like holyfield and haye. not natural at all. so therefore he wouldn't be a heavyweight today, unless he carrys that much weight well.
Joe Louis was a power fighter, good from the waist up,no footwork, effective inside with the opponent up close punching short
Ali is a skill fighter, good waist up and waist down, tremendous footwork, best outside at long range, jabbing, plus (officially) the fastest boxer ever (all weights)...Joe would lose
No footwork ? Joe had amazing footwork lol, in his biography he described in detail how he would beat Ali, Frazier took his plan and copied it almost to perfection, kill his body and his head will fall was bassically Louis' method to beating Ali.
To say Joe Louis was just a puncher is doing a diservice to his legacy. This man had the greatest jab in heavyweight history along with Larry Holmes, better than Ali's.
That jab set up...the right hand, left hook to the body, and uppercut were deadly he threw them with great timing and accuracy.
People say he had bad footwork but it was deceptively good. He was an absolute master at cutting the ring off. His feet were always in the right place when he threw punches.
The brwon bomber is the best boxer ever.!!!But louis is not a hawiweight louis is a cruiserweight 90 kilogramm.but louis have a punch like a hawiweght.Joe Louis Fuck Marko Huck fuck firat arslan fuck stefe cunninghame fuck david haye fuck alxander alexeef
Old Joe Louis lost to Walcott first fight. They gave it to Joe but Walcott won it easy. Straight from long lay off Ali took out Bonavena with just one punch and Bonavena was one tough hombre with a far better chin than Joe ever had. Either way prime or past prime I see Ali winning on points - too fast. too big, too ring savvy just too much talent for Louis.
We are talking about 2 completely different situations.
Joe was 32-33 when he fought Walcott and we saw was old Joe did to a prime Jersey Joe who was a better fighter than Bonavena. Ali was 28-29 when he fought Ringo. Plus Joe had about 70 fights under his belt at that time while Ali has less than 40.
I see Ali winning a first fight with both in their prime with Louis winning the 2nd time.
Ali had not fought for years prior to beating Bonavena and Walcott was no more really than a light heavy. If you are saying Prime Ali v Prime Louis Ali wins but past prime Ali v Louis then Louis wins then okay I will go with that. I think we both agree they were both great - arguably 1 and 2 GOAT though you could make a case for Holmes, Marciano, Foreman, prime Tyson and also Lennox Lewisin the mix for top 5 spots.
Walcott fought in the mid 190s for the most part, just a few pounds lighter than Louis. He was not a light heavy. Perhaps you are confusing him with Ezzard Charles. Everyone, gives Ali tons of lot of credit for coming back after a layoff but Louis also had an equally long layoff due to WW2 but came back to be dominant for a few years. Prime Ali got hit plenty by limited fighters such as Mildenberger, Chuvalo and even Folley, so Joe would hit him. Anyone Joe hits is in trouble.
Anyone Foreman hit in his prime e.g. Frazier was in big trouble -except Ali. He took everything Foreman could give round after round before he KO'd him. I do not think Louis hit harder than prime Foreman. Louis was truly great in every dept. except for his chin which was suspect throughout his career and Ali's punching power was better than he is usually given credit for.
Foreman hit with more brute force but he was not nearly as accurate or economical (or as smart, conditioned and composed - qualities that Norton used effectively against him). IF you are actually suggesting that Ali would be a meaningful threat to KO Louis then this is not a serious discussion and not worth further words.
We'll never know who would have won but Ali would have his hands completely full with the Louis' jab and counter punching. He better be ready to move for 15 rounds.
Louis was dropped by no less than 6 fighters in his career. I do not think any of them with possible exception of Marciano were better punchers than Ali. Also consider Billy Conn, a light heavy. He fought Louis in '41 when Louis was in his prime. He outboxed Louis and was well on his way to victory before got cocky in the 13th and was KO'd. Ali was a far better boxer than Conn and unlike Conn a genuine heavyweight.
Get real, Joe Walcott was a much, much better puncher than Ali! Buddy Baer was also a real puncher, as was Max Schmelling. All rated in the Ring's list of top 100 punchers, a list that Ali does not make. (Louis is #1) Conn was a truly great fighter and stylistically and tempermentally different than Ali. Very difficult to compare those two. Your arguments are nowhere. I am out of here.
Walcott's record is71 fights of which just 32 KO's. Ali 61 fights 37 by KO. I know (backed by their records) Ali was a better puncher. Baer was a lumbering joke who would not have landed a single glove on prime Ali. Schmelling would have been hitting thin air too. Ali damn right was temperamentally different to Conn -Ali always won his rematches not fold like Conn . We agree to disagree on who was the best but dont tell me my arguments are nowhere.Thats just ignorant. Over and out.
Foreman didn't even hit ali good because of his accuracy a louis would hit ali straigt on his chin no doubt about that and if a louis hits you you are in big problem
that is true that ali is the fastest but he still can be hit with a punch and even d'amato said it that louis would beat ali, there is a clip of it on youtube
also, and my last point, prime louis vs prime ali, room for argument, old joe louis vs muhammed ali after layoff, joe louis no doubt. too strong, too accurate, and too good at mixing it up and finishing them off. and notice that blackburn taught louis how to get out of a clinch.
What is the music that starts at 3:10? It's either Irish or Scottish fiddling. If you like it you could check Irish fiddlers, Kevin Bourke, Paddy Glackin, Tommy Peoples, The Bothy Band, Altan..
Joe louis is my favorite fighter and I was glad to learn recently that some of the stereotypes about him, mainly that he didn't do anything bad, aren't true.
Why I say Ali is that no only he had the best reflexes of any HW in history but he also had the best chin. So if Louis did connect which is unlikely then I think Ali would have grabbed and held like he did when hurt against Foreman probably the hardest puncher of all time. Ali whilst not a better puncher than Louis could still KO more with combinations though. Like you say Louis' chin was his major flaw and it remained so throughout his career.
If the likes of Schmeling, Braddock, Walcott and Two Ton Tony Lardarse could deck him then what would for example prime Foreman and Lewis have done? Louis was great - but best of all time? I don't see any way he could beat Ali in his prime and a big hitter of the modern era would always have stood a good chance of a KO.
possibly. i know that louis would knock out all of the current heavyweights. especially klitschko. the only reason he got knocked down those times was that he was not careful and over confident. if he entered a fight with the mindset he had against schmeling 2, he would have knocked out any current heavyweight, no dought.
remember, those were the old horse hair gloves;small, thin and poorly made. They did more damage than the gloves in Ali's era. Back then, everyone could get dropped. It's just that Louis did it to others more in a brawler's era.
There will never be anyone who did what Joe Louis did as heavyweight champion. He broke so many barriers and brought respect to the heavyweight title like no other champion ever had.
I'm sorry but that's not the right kind of thinking. Don't get me wrong; Louis is my favourite boxer and currently I think he's the best heavyweight ever too. But you shouldn't say "no one will ever be as great as him" because you have to be objective. Most people will always tend to pick fighters from long ago when they are asked who is the best. If for example Joe Louis lived now (with the same boxing skills) and didn't exist in the 30's, people would concider some older fighter the greatest..
Joe louis probably the greatest Heavyweight of all time , he cannot be denied and will always be ingraved in boxing history and will also be known as a credit to his race, the human race.
Joe was a class act, niggas should hush their mouths and learn manners like Joe, such a gent.
