re the broken string thing: I saw Eric sit in with Buddy Guy, Berkeley '67 during Creams first tour. He broke a string a couple songs into the first set and played uninterrupted for at least three or four more songs, and you'd never have known it if it weren't a small club (the new orleans house on san pablo). Amazing then, amazing now.
@aleherzko. The guy with the red strat is Phil Palmer and I agree, what a beautiful solo, have thought so since the first time I saw this in 1990, to quote Eric "take it Phil" lol love it!!!
I don't care how how much of a guitar god he is, the sight of Slowhand at 1:42-1:47 with his long hair and awful pink suit blowing in the wind, while he pulls a closed-eye look of serious concentration, is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen.
@StraitKnopfler If you like to wear pink suit, you're probably gay. If you wear pink suit and play guitar well, you are the coolest man in the world. Keep that on your mind ;)
@Sointula2 Relax, I may not have emphasized enough that I'm a fan and have seen him twice (he was wearing jeans at both). That doesn't mean that I can't rib him for certain bizarre choices of clothing, though I confess after thousands of shows it must be difficult to find something nice every single time. I doubt anyone paid the entry fee simply because they heard he was wearing a pink suit, so I'd contest that they paid 'for exactly that'. Surely it's not a suit you'd wear, famous or not!
@rufus99999 I very much doubt that. I played an aluminum bodied Tele at a gig one time that someone did a beautiful job of building, but the guitar itself was useless. Every stray breeze coming through the door knocked it out of tune....Expansion/contraction of the hollow aluminum body!!
He's so sexy and cool, he doesn't have to color his eyes to be like that like some cats this days do!!! And he was remains and always will be the GOD of Guitar, Pure blues spirit in Rockers body!!! Eric Clapton Is the Biggest, I mean It!!!
How do I get my strat to sound like that on the lead parts?, I have an American Strat, Tube amd and an Ibnez Tube Blaster but still plincky on the really high notes
@MrCraigDNelson you need to get an Eric Clapton Signature guitar and turn the midboost all the way to ten for the solo. You can also install one in any Strat, but with some mods. That explains only in part why he cuts through the mix like that in the solos. Here I think he is also using a chorus effect, which I personally do not like for blues. ECs hands and soulful playing help a litte too ;0)
This is great stuff. I'm not a guitarist, but I enjoy the arts of Clapton, Vaughn, Hendrix, and many others. I, myself, am a drummer. I've been wanting to get a cover project together, alas, lack good members here in my general area. I'd love to jam some blues/rock any day. I play everything, genre wise. I have the most respect for jazz/blues guitarists. They know how to put on a show and good solos!
Yes, strats DO have a certain quality about them that I really like. They say the guitars were formed after a woman's shape. I guess proportionally, Les Pauls have a bigger butt than the strats do. Both of them nice, of course, and I wouldn't kick either of them out of the studio for eating crackers. Do you ever play in the New England area?
Wow, that was awesome. Usually when you break a string on a stratocaster, because of the nature of the springs in the whammy bar, it usually becomes as useful as a canoe paddle, totally out of tune and all that. You didn't see that happen here. What a pro he is.
@texacaster Ahh, thank you. I totally forgot about the blocking of the tremolo bars. Yeah, he never was one to dive-bomb much. Thanks for reminding me. I have a couple of strats and it never occurred to me to block them. I take it by your name you play, are you a telecaster or stratocaster person, or both?
@4001XBASS I use both. With my original band I use teles and with the cover band I use strats and gibsons. I always go back to the strat in a pinch though.
please check out my son...named after Eric Clapton...primussux (channel) and theDIMENSIONchannel (channel) originals and covers...guitar player, singer, songwriter...very talented and I say that cause it's true not cause I'm his mom:) thanks:)))
@dzaus81 the guy with the red strat is phil palmer, he's a session guitarist who played with clapton, george michael, dire straits on every street tour etc.
@losaface4 He broke his 2nd string 2 seconds before. At 2:05 he was just removing the broken string. Later, while Phil Palmer is playing a solo, Eric gets another guitar and plays the end of the song.
I don't know nothing bout birthing no babies but I do know blues when I hear it and folks I can tell you, this is some gooood blues. Thanks for sharing.

@guitargirl761 Once again I stated my opinion and nothing more. Calling me "not a musician" because of that is a little to fast and foolhardy. @guitargirl761 Hey, I did not mean to bring Eric down, I was only flirting with Eric fans that's all. I love Clapton's music I just love Garry more:-)
@EsaulRuss If Gary Moore was in this video with Eric, he would have played about 5000 notes in his solo. Drastically overplaying. He gets so out of sync with every tune he plays.

@esbramakopf No, he switched guitars. He started with the Pewter with Flamed neck, broke the string, then switched to the Pewter with Birdseye neck :)

fingers will take you only hours of practice,.but the feeling of
blues music will take you years and even decades to get thru
it..blues is easy to play but it is hard to feel..its not how fast your finger is,it is how you play the note..thats why eric
clapton is i think one of the best guitarist in the world.
