they started whit the c-130a under the 40:s and used at the 60:s so by that time this plane chrased it was maby and ex army plane bought by the firedep. probably 40 years old... so my guess is that is was to old and undermaintained. the c-130a is a good plane but way too old so they sould ither build a new better version or scrapping the old ones.
@Prttimeninja2 my guess is that after they released the water from the tanks, the mass and balance would have been changed significantly. if they did not hold the controls forward, the plane would inevitably get faster and produce more lift. without the pilots forcing the plane to stay level, who knows if the G-loading of the plane pitching up was enough to break the wings?

That's just unheard of both wing falling of either bad maintenance but feel bad for the pilots that they had to fly that plane that day and loses there live to such a cause
@MrSupraMatt; That bird is doing a fire retardant drop over a forest fire in california, most likely killer here was radiant heat from the fires weakening the main spars in the wings, causing catastrophic failure. It's a C-130A, you can damn near fly those things into a wall and still fly it home. A beautiful machine lost, and a tragic end for those who flew her to assistance of others.
