@zombiekicker You're exactly right about that. They did. The film "24 Hour Party People" makes it clear that within the Factory Records circle (I hesitate to say offices), ACR was considered the equivalent of the Gang that Couldn't Shoot Straight. It's a shame. Perhaps if they'd been supported when they needed it most, the band wouldn't have been encouraged to pursue the darker, grittier, edgier sound they demonstrated so well here.
Totally underrated band,,,definitely buying up some of their releases soon. Not that I don't own any of their vinyl recordings already (Just the one though)
@atomise2010 He moved to Washington DC and NYC for a while in the mid-1980s, then came back to the UK and has been involved in various aspects of the classical music scene over there.
Wow....so many great memories, nostalgia looms heavy on this time. Iconic....the blackest white dudes of the north who paved the way for so many more to follow.

Label: Soul Jazz Records
Catalog#: SJR CD 60
Toward the late 70s, two Manchester-based tribes of young people lived together in a weird harmony. On the one hand, the bewitched devotees to the heretic smack of the Velvet Underground and to the ambiguous appeal of David Bowie(Joy Division, Section 25, Crispy Ambulance). On the other, the children of the Northern Soul, fans of black soul music.
This footage was part of a promotional film made by New York-based director Michael Chumburg circa September 1980 and is also available on the recent CD "Early"
It should be noted that at this point ACR were rather publicity shy after a certain UK journalist made up that salacious story about Tony Wilson giving Simon and Jeremy thigh massages before every performance.
Whoaa!! Where is this shit from? ACR are part of my foundation of life (w/ Tackhead, No New York - Liquid Liquid, Material, James Chance, Defunkt etc.), so Thanx! Thanx! Thanx! Thanx! How cool were they, man! ;)
UK, LATE 70'S, THE BEST MUSICAL ERA FOR MODERN MAN, MAY I BE REBORN TO JUST BE THERE, IT CHANGED MY NORMALITY FOREVER..

@mstthewbrunswick It's called Tribeca because that's the name of the film that this footage is taken from. Recorded around 1980-/81, I think

Errr... isn't this Oceans from the 1981 album To Each... not Tribeca from 1990?

Drum circles into Sixties pop. Didn't think they could pull it off but it's good.

good description: the blackest white funk;),
I've been just discovering them - amazing, I'd never thought so much had been already said and played in music, they're so modern, so contemporary...

I hear more post-punk than funk, but, then again, I've never been a fan of funk so my ear doesn't really hear it.
