@loveloveloveskins The problem is that High School is not like Skins in Real Life. The show demonstrates the lives of about 10% of the High School Population in this country. All the show really does is miss lead 13 and 14 year olds to believe that this is how their "suppose" to be acting once they get into high school. When in reality, Rarely, anyone acts that way at all. It's a horrible show that does nothing but hurt society and I'm glad it's been canceled.

my mom trused me with a lot of things cause she knew me very well. she may not like the show but she knows i wouldnt get influenced but it. so like i said it has to do with ur maturity level and there r ages where u know for a fact its not good for them.
im 20 and im kinda entertained by this show but if i had a lil brother or sister then i would be worried that they might get influenced cause young ppl like 16 and under r still developing their personalities and finding their selves but it should be more of a maturity rating then a age cause some ppl arnt ready for it and some ppl can handle it but realistically u cant rate ppl on their maturity levels cause its just impossible. so thats kinda where parents do and should step in.

It’s funny and entertaining, but to see how those folks live, doesn’t it make u want to do the complete opposite? Personally, when I watch the show, I feel sorry the characters & situations they go thru. It kind of sets an example of how NOT to be. Yea, those kids wear cool clothes and go to wild parties, but look at the pain they live through. Instead of glamorizing/sugar coating everything(making drug and sex look good), Skins gives it to you raw and shows real consequences from the risky behavior and actions. Same w/ Jersey Shore.

I'm not usually one to make a fuss about racy shows, but I think "Skins" takes it too far. I get it, teens are already having sex, doing drugs, drinking, etc. But I feel that this show glorifies all this and is telling kids that it's okay, but not only that, in some circles of friends there is maybe some of these things going on with one or two people, but sex, drugs, drinking, partying in the minds of every single person? seriously? it's too much of an exaggeration and it sends a wrong message.

Even then you can see that the characters reflect themselves a lot. It doesn't send the wrong message. Not every one can be so influenced. Skins wasn't as big a deal in the UK, when it premiered. Now I liked the UK version (the first two seasons at least), and I'm pretty sure the American one is toned down regardless. Americans have always been so uptight and primitive in our (yes, I'm American) sensitivities. It's kinda pathetic.

I'm 13 years old, I watch the show, and to be honest it does come down to parenting. I'm not going to go out, do drugs, have sex, etc. just because I saw it on some T.V. show. Parents like to blame the media and anyone but themselves and their parenting for their children's bad behaviour..

You guys are 'barking up the wrong tree'. The controversy isnt about "teaching kids bad things" or whether parents are good are bad. Its whether or not the show violates § 1466A. It wont let me post link here, but google it. The real debate is whether or not the wording of that law applies to this show or not.
In a lot of movies and shows where a teen "character" is in a racy scene, the actor is actually over 18. So theres not a real life violation. The issue here is in real life, under aged kids are participating in racy scenes. To be honest, I havent seen much of the show. I am just making the point this argument is different than the usual protests against violent video games, horror movies etc... There are real legal concerns, not just angry parents.
Ok, but keep in mind theres a difference between being "nude" and being "sexually explicit". Google 1466A., it spells out the definitions and violations pretty clearly. I am not an attorney so I cant say for sure if it applies this, but its at least a valid complaint. EVERYONE should read over this law before getting up on their soap box here.

And if the parents had a problem with it, they should have just blocked it off the TV instead of ruining it for everyone. @candyapplecarnage the ratings unfortunately declined drastically after episode 1 and mtv had so many law suits for child porno that they just did not think it was worth it to make another series, but there is always the uk skins which I enjoy and you should check out if you hace not already. you can find them on youtube, since we do not live in the uk it wouldn't be blocked

im 20 and im kinda entertained by this show but if i had a lil brother or sister then i would be worried that they might get influenced cause young ppl like 16 and under r still developing their personalities and finding their selves but it should be more of a maturity rating then a age cause some ppl arnt ready for it and some ppl can handle it but realistically u cant rate ppl on their maturity levels cause its just impossible. so thats kinda where parents do and should step in.

Personally, when I watch the show, I feel sorry the characters & situations they go thru. It kind of sets an example of how NOT to be. Yea, those kids wear cool clothes and go to wild parties, but look at the pain they live through. Instead of glamorizing/sugar coating everything(making drug and sex look good), Skins gives it to you raw and shows real consequences from the risky behavior and actions. Same w/ Jersey Shore.

Well, as outrageous as this show is portrayed. It probably couldn't be further from the truth of how kids really are. It's probably as real as real can get in life.

Some of the things that the characters go through in the show is actually what we teens go through everyday. Its the PARENTS FAULTS. I'm not usually one to make a fuss about racy shows, but I think "Skins" takes it too far. I get it, teens are already having sex, doing drugs, drinking, etc. But I feel that this show glorifies all this and is telling kids that it's okay, but not only that, in some circles of friends there is maybe some of these things going on with one or two people, but sex, drugs, drinking, partying in the minds of every single person? seriously? it's too much of an exaggeration and it sends a wrong message.

Even then you can see that the characters reflect themselves a lot. It doesn't send the wrong message. Not every one can be so influenced. If parents teach their kids to not be so impressionable then honestly, what kind of parents are they? And besides who cares if Taco Bell pulls their commercial. They glamorize stuff too. They say their food has real meat.

Skins wasn't as big a deal in the UK, when it premiered. Now I liked the UK version (the first two seasons at least), and I'm pretty sure the American one is toned down regardless. Americans have always been so uptight and primitive in our (yes, I'm American) sensitivities. It's kinda pathetic.

A parent knows what goes on in a teens life, and is willing to talk to their kids but kids don't, they look up to shows like this. They make it look like fun, and monkey see monkey do. Honestly, everyone who's supporting this show on this channel is just being a scared bully, The show should get canceled, let the kids learn about this stuff from TEACHERS who are actually supposed to guide us in our lives, TV isnt for learning, its for entertainment, I dont want to watch a show about a 16 year old dumbass going around getting laid just because, Skins is a stupid show, and this just shows how perverted the british people are to glorify sex and drug abuse,

It's funny that diversity is priority #1 when it comes to glorifying black criminal gangsters (think videos) and when it comes to peddling their smut WHITE children are the intended audience. You guys are 'barking up the wrong tree'. The controversy isnt about "teaching kids bad things" or whether parents are good are bad. Its whether or not the show violates § 1466A. It wont let me post link here, but google it. The real debate is whether or not the wording of that law applies to this show or not.

In a lot of movies and shows where a teen "character" is in a racy scene, the actor is actually over 18. So theres not a real life violation. The issue here is in real life, under aged kids are participating in racy scenes. To be honest, I havent seen much of the show. I am just making the point this argument is different than the usual protests against violent video games, horror movies etc... There are real legal concerns, not just angry parents.

I won't disagree, but I have seen movies with children that have shown nude before. Not common but I have seen it in films before.

Ok, but keep in mind theres a difference between being "nude" and being "sexually explicit". Google 1466A., it spells out the definitions and violations pretty clearly. I am not an attorney so I cant say for sure if it applies this, but its at least a valid complaint. EVERYONE should read over this law before getting up on their soap box here.

god, parents a lot of teens are going through this. and yeah some protective parents who shelter their kids will think "what the hell". Parents you can protect your kid and never talk about to them about sex, drugs, and social things but at the end of they day they have to go to school and your screwed, because thats were I learned about sex at school and that's where most people learn about the word and/or meaning

I knew that it would be a total gamble for MTV to make a US version of Skins because of drama from people who are looking for something to bitch about. Now as far as their programming, I always said they should have changed their damm name because there is no more music on that station anymore. If cd sales are down, it is because we never know when anything new comes out.

@MJH281 And please don't let me run Viacom in my lifetime, because if I did, there wouldn't be any bitching about MTV, because all of those shows (Skins, Jersey Shore, 16 and Pregnant) would be out and we would play videos -- since were are music television!! And by videos, I mean every genre except country (that is what CMT is for and yes, even though I think country sucks, you will get all country music). It is about time that people with common sense take over and this is the way.

I no longer have rspect for MTV. I accept Jersey shore, but shows like 16 and pregnant, teen mom, etc! Wow, its just a show! Dude watch the british version then try to say mtvs version is too racy. Its not like they're telling ppl to go out and get pregnant. They even address pregnancies in one of the later shows. And if kids are dumb enough to do drugs because they saw it on TV, then theres something wrong with the kids and the way their parents raise them, not the show.
