  • @patrolmanDark @kdwildman - I kinda agree with both of you, I love the 'owned' feel of the MM2 version but my heart breaks every time that clip gets busted. Funnily enough the front end of the Ford Australia Fairlane and Falcon from around 83 on, both have a nod to that clip which is an aftermarket part for the Falcon XB used in the film.

  • this car and eleanor are my faves

  • The Mad Max version is much better looking than the Road Warrior version. I know it's the same car, but it just doesn't look as good without the front air dam and the rear hatch.

  • @kdwildman - Strangely enough, I disagree. :) I feel the RW version looks more badass, more lived-in, more post-apocalyptic. But that's why there's two movies. :)

  • why doesn't the engine shut off when the blower stops turning?

  • It's movie magic, sir.

  • i have a question

where is the air filter in that blower?

wouldnt a engine that big have a 14" round filter?

  • @kreigsmann I dont know about this car but the origonal in the movie had a fake blower.

  • Aaah yes, the interceptor version from Max max2 with the huge tanks behind it! Awesome car, man! Truly one of my favorites in car cinema history. It owned so much in MM1! I really was sad when it got blown to bits in part 2 :(

Its originally something of a Ford Falcon GT, right? Very rare, I bet you worked hard to get this all around and make ur dream come thru.

The last of the V8's ;-)

    And you got it!

  • Originally a Ford Falcon XB GT, they are very rare. However I did not build this car, it was built by Scott Smith with the help of the builders of the first two cars. It was used in the documentary "Back 2 The Max". The guys did a fantastic job on it, down to all the tiny details that you never notice or see in the movie!

  • Ah yea, Ford Falcon XB GT! Thats right! Nice!

So did you just bought the car after they used it for the documentary? I mean, these cars are quite rare because they are custom build, so therefore I bet it would have cost a lot?

I've also found websites in the past of people rebuilding other Mad Max cars. The Ford Falcon XB GT was again used for the base for a lot of other MM2 cars. The red car of one of the villains at last scene is one of em.

    anyway, thanks for reply!

  • @PatrolmanDark What year?

I'm a huge fan of Mad Max. Awesome job btw

  • @Naturalhit - '73-'75 coupe body. I thank you, however I did not build this car, it was built by Scott Smith with the help of the builders of the first two cars. It was used in the documentary "Back 2 The Max".

  • Have you ever seen Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior?

  • beast

  • I would love a original aussie version. But even in aussie land they are rare.

  • What the... Right hand drive?

  • Yes, being an Australian car, from an Australian movie. As Australia was founded by the British, they're all right hand drive.

  • good to see that our Aussie Fords are popular in the states.

  • I would give my soul for a V8 interceptor like that lol

  • the wheel is on the correct side like most civilised countries who drive on the left.

  • completely ridiculously fantastically done car.

  • Scott Smith, who built the car along with some of the fellas who built the movie cars, built it just like the first two.

  • Nice. I used to design cars for ford (appypollyogies) and this car, plus the '67 shelby mustang GT500KR, inspired me to become a designer. Now retired, my brother, a professional model-maker, myself, and a couple prop-studios are making a MFP interceptor out of the 89-93 Tbird. I know it-s not right, but it's gonna look great! Try michael knight electric blowers. You may be able to make it really work. Also writing a prequel called the Dark One. Wish us luck!

  • Best of luck, sir. Nice to hear a prequel is being written about me. :) The 89-93 T-bird? I looked up some pictures, it appears that it will be quite challenging, it doesn't appear to be close in any dimensions. Will it be a complete rebody?

  • It will be an homage, not an exact replica. The roofline at the rear is the biggest problem, of course. One way to fix that problem, for myself, would be to build it out of a '73 falcoln, with a mach-1 front end. I dunno. Lymes disease is a hell of an illness. Used to design cars for ford, did the retro-stang. Now I can barely walk and chew gum simultaneously. But I still would like an 'interceptor' I can beat on. Btw, in the Dark One, his nickname is 'humongous'.

  • If I may make a suggestion, a 70-71 Ford Torino or Fairlane makes a dandy Interceptor. They're very close in overall styling and much easier to get in the states than a Aussie Ford Falcon. Sorry to hear about the Lyme Disease. An honor to "meet" somebody who did styling for Ford, especially on one of their more moving designs.

  • You know, the torino is one of my fav's. Gimme a '71 429 scj 4sp w/shaker, and I'm in cobra heaven. But the tail won't work, it's a little too long. Our falcoln, the sister car to the torino, had the same rear as the aussie. I would import everything else. Hey, my bro recognized your car from the doc! He's a bigwig at revell, the model co. They won't do the interceptors, but we did find some models and diecasts. Nice jap dealies. Peace, ossifer!

  • Try a 1970 Ford Torino/Fairlane model. They used the same engine as the Australian Falcons did. And the body styles are similar too.

  • Read my comment again. The falcoln has a better rear end if you want to do a good copy. I just want to do an homage, so a mocked-up thunderbird should do.

  • Is that a real blower on there, or did you stay faithful to the movie cars?

  • I thank you, sir. You may be interested to know that the Interceptor's stablemate is a Dodge, the Bluesmobile. It's not as fast as the Interceptor, but it's a bad mother in its own right. I'm not a makist, most manufacturers have made a few cars I really dig.

  • im a dodge man, fords suck..but as fords go, the mad max interceptor sucks far less than most of em hehe ;)

  • Why was a woman behind the wheel of a car?

  • She was in the passenger seat. This is an Australian car, the steering wheel in on the right side, being held by me in this video.

  • LOL. what are those tanks on the back? this thing looks crazy!

agreed a woman should not have been driving

  • The tanks on the back are for fuel. Watch the movie "Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior" for a better understanding.

In English, "passenger seat" means "not the driver's seat". I, the one with the beard, was driving. It's an Australian car, so it's right-hand-drive.

  • ME TOO! I want a ride!

  • YES!!!! I DO, yeah, me too. Australia muscle, XB hardtop.

  • Rottentomatoes made a list of the coolest 50 cars ever to appear in movies. To my utter astonishment the Persuit Special (V8 Interceptor) was down in 26'th(!!). Apparently Thelma&Louise's Thunderbird was cooler(24'th),the original batmobile from the 60's show was 13'th,Starsky&Hutch's Grand Torino was 8'th,Speedracer(WTF)4'th and General Lee 3'rd.DeLorean from BTTF was 1'st.

Seriously the V8 Interceptor should be 1'st and that it's not even top 3 is proof this list is useless.

  • thats some interesting info there pal, thanks.

  • chickenboy, there are 2 ways you can do it, either mechanical or electrical, but go into the bank, think of the most outrageous price possible, then times it by 100. It wont be cheap

  • any idea where I can get a Blower cluch setup??

  • Not a working, functional one, no. And there's really no point in it, either. One of those things from the movies that seems cool but isn't real and shouldn't be.

  • dang you aussies made on heck of a car, Thank you all!!!!

  • @runningman1987 And were still making them , hence we send what you call G8 Pontiacs to the USA

  • Heh Heh Heh, we aussies go mad over your mustangs and you go mad over our Falcon coupes, we should swap countries.. LOL

  • this is a great car

  • One more thing mate, don't call the car SHE ;) It deffinetely don't suit its looks to be called SHE ;)

  • dunno why mate but all muscle cars are "girls"

  • Yes, if you cant make super replica then dont try making a madmax lookalike. This one is the closest to its movie looks. Good on ya.

  • Cheers, mate. I can't take credit for the build though, this was built by Scott Smith in Australia with the help of some of the fellas that built the first two. It's exact, they went berserk on detail, down to the really detailed roll cage. They did brilliant work.

  • As long as you OWN ONE ;) Not important who built it ;)Not important to us spectators at least ;)

  • Heh...I hear you, but for the folks who built it, it may be important. And since I'm the current curator of the beast, I do like to make sure I'm not stealing somebody else's credit. Plus, having some of the builders of the first two in on it adds to its authenticity for me.

  • well, if they kept the car then I would talk different. Not good in the eyes of spectators anyway ;) selling such a car after building it so good. THOSE CARS ARE NOT FOR SALE GODDAMn ;)

  • Nice car mate it sounds awesome ! but I must clear one thing up for the fans

The MM1 car had 1)siren 2)decals 3)front spoiler and nose cone 4) no twin fuel tanks

The MM2 car had 1) no siren 2) no decals 3) no front spoiler - nose cone smashed in movie 4) twin truck fuel tanks

If you can't afford the real one Auto Art are selling a 1:18 replica that is the best I've seen , you even get Dog and tins of food for him !

  • Thanks! You'll note that this one has no siren, no decals, and the nose cone is exactly like this at the beginning of MM2, and has the twin truck fuel tanks. And the cool thing about the Auto Art model is that it's a model of THIS car, measurements, photographs and all taken before it left Australia. :)

  • Man, Mad Max's V-8 pursuit Special as seen in the Road Warrior. I would love to have an XB done up to resemble the pursuit special as it was seen in Mad Max. This is a great car you have and I am envious!!!!! I bet it's a blast to drive.

  • damn. I want that car soo bad. its badass. how much you want for it.lol

  • Thanks, man! She's not for sale, it's my dream car.

  • It that car actually an aussie Falcon, or is it made from a Torino?

  • She's the real deal.

  • Dude you should seriously hit either the comicon or auto show circuit with this car. I build cars and have a luv to get my picture taken in famous cars.

I've been in the Batmobile, Munstermobile, General Lee etc. People will seriously pay $20.00 a picture to get in that car. And Im one of them! Seriously that would be badass to get in the Last V8!

  • Coolest movie car bar none. Legendary.

  • is it an electric driven blower?

    sounds kinda off from rpms....

    i could be wrong

  • Nope, the blower is not electric. But it was my second day with the car, I hadn't brought the idle down where it should be.

  • that is one sweet replica!!! but is it a mm1 or mm2 replica? it has long range tanks from mm2 but has the front spoiler from mm1.

  • Thank you, sir! She was built in Australia by Scott Smith and some of the fellas who built the first two, for promotions and the documentary "Back 2 the Max". It is built to exactly match the Interceptor at the beginning of MM2. In MM1, the nose is full height. At the beginning of MM2, before he smashes the Landau in the back, it has the half nose, as seen here.

  • oh, I see. Nice attention to detail. The working blower tops it off. Be good to see it cruising round here in oz. I used to live close to where they filmed the first one. whenever I drive down those country roads near little river and diggers rest, I always remember the scenes from the movie.

  • The last of the V8 interceptors had the wheel on the left side.

  • I'm afraid that's incorrect. I present as evidence the movies "Mad Max" and "Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior". Additionally, Australia, having its roots in Great Britain, drives on the left side of the road, hence the wheel on the right side.

  • I'm sorry. I thought you meant the last of the V8 interceptors as stated on the original movie. The one on the first movie, the black one that Max used in the end, has the wheel on the left side.

  • Sorry i was wrong. Just watched it again it it does have the wheel on the left side. I could have swore the wheel was on the left side, because i remember i liked it much better than the other cars on the movie :)

  • lol sorry again about the spam, i meant that it does have the wheel on the right side in the movie.

  • Phew! Good thing I wasn't driving the Interceptor from the wrong side all this time....

  • that dang movie is why I went through so many handlebars on my Z1r way back! very nice machine. Next that funky hippy bubblecar thing from movie I expect LOL!

  • *cargasm*

  • Theres a guy in Burbank California who has one of these... He also has the Yellow interceptors I believe

  • Not in the OCT/NOV 1985 issue. Not sure about any other appearance. If it had the full height nosecone, then it wasn't.

  • is this the one that was in Street Machine magazine?

  • No the one from the magazine was the real deal car from both movies he later sold it to a guy in England who owns the cars of the stars Muesum where the car resides to this day

  • Of course you can switch a Roots supercharger on and off. In the 1930s cars such as the MG K3 used to have separate carburettors for the supercharger (mounted before the supercharger - taking advantage of the fact that a Roots doesn't compress air internally) and twin carbs mounted on a second intake manifold. The supercharger could thus be switched off.

  • if you can turn off the blower it must have holes cut through the lobes...how else can the engine get air with it off???

  • with the use of an intake air bypass. Holes in the lobes would reduce the air flow that the supercharger could produce as well as the increased manifold pressure

  • Thanks very much. The doorskin? If you're talking about the inside of the door, that's just how you'll see it in Mad Max II: The Road Warrior. On the driver's side is a machete in the door.

  • I must say ever so ladylike - that the Interceptor is a fucking awesome machine.. But then again what ol'Aussie Ford throughout the 70's early 80's wasn't..

How shithot is that whistle too!!!

By the way, What happened to the doorskin?

  • Listen to NJPurling...but the car is BAD! An Aussie with V8 pawa :)

  • The car in the movie had a fake blower. If that one isn't real then it is just as the movie car was.

A real supercharger can't be turned on and off.

  • umm.. research before you post

people have been making custom blowers for years with an on off switch you just use a meganetic clutch

really not that hard to do

  • Additionally, I believe there was a early Mercedes that had an on/off supercharger.

  • roots blowers can't pass any air when they are not spinning, the system shown in mad max will not work in real life, other types of blower like centri will bypass air, many factory systems use complicated ducting that bypasses the supercharger alltogether, like toyota.

simply saying you can use a magnetic clutch is a stupid statement, that on its own will not make a supercharger on/off compatible, it depends upon the type of blower used.

  • Not just a magnetic clutch, but you could use something similar to the snorkels on a Buick ram air, that would probably get you the air bypass. Just instead of hooking the air cleaner bowl up to the vacuum, you hook it to the differential switch, or in combination with the differential switch and the vacuum. Just one idea that might work, probably other ones out there.

  • Very nice!
