At least they didn't have steel wheels, like my first skateboard was, ($2.98 at Yankees was all I could afford-the clay wheels skateboards were 8 bucks in 1964!)
Steel wheels were death waiting to happen. In 1966, we cut up a friends sisters roller skates for the clay wheels. Worked great!
This short played before my first "date" with Cathy M. After seeing the blond girl I ignored Cathy and searched for the blond through puberty. Old,happy and sad memory. Thanks for posting.
the brady bunch house is in the begining of the film . I remember befor there was beta or vcr,s we had film projectors ,,, There is a film ive been trying to find the name of . its about a grandmother who seldom get visits or letters from her daughter and grand daughter , she finaly get a letter and has a heart attact and dies . at the end of the movie she asks,, Do you write to your grand parents ,she pauses then says ,, well you should, it was sad and funny at the end.
Rolling Hills Theater! OMG! Adam West showed up there a couple of times with the bat mobile...Most of the residential area looks like Torrance Rivera Village area.
phantastic! that crate girl got owned. boys got the right haircut back then and looked kinda cute, not like emos or guidos. what's with those jackets? is this some kind of early sponsoring?! LOVE THIS VID 5*****
I am now 53 and I so remember this flic being filmed there in Rolling Hills. Torrance and Redondo Beach .I was in the sixth grade at Eshelman ave and I had a huge crush on the beautiful lady that sat beside me named Jerald, We Were just kids then However I still remember her , Her father was a Toyota guy and they lived In Rolling Hills
This brings back really good memories of watching movies during rainy days at Eshelman Avenue School in 1979. It was filmed partially in Rolling Hills Plaza and partially in my barrio LOMITA Puro Big Bad Harbor Hills Locos....
HaHa! I had forgotten the sound of those clay wheels. Man ,we used to get 'em so hot skatin St'Joseph/Park alley in Long Beach that they'd just break apart ! I enjoy seeing the old cars too -like the 65 Ranchero and 55 Chevy. Cool !
I first saw this movie in 74 the B Movie before Rollerball I was like about 12, you had to be 14 to get in me and my Friend put wooden blocks in our shoes. We made it in. The rest of my class mates didnt. Made my first Skate board 2 days later. sold it a week later. Kept making until they were imported!! Those were the days.
@dubkutter i saw the same thing!! we went and made boards outa wood and roller skates... they were fucking crap!!! so bought a G and S FIBREFLEX board with GULLWING TRUCKS and RED KRYPTONITE wheels AWESOME!!! thanks for posting!
Wow this brings back memories. I saw this @Harbor City Elementry School around 1972. I remember the Rolling Hills Theter. Anyone remember the little play area that was in the parking lot? Or Steves Sporting Goods? That was THE place for skateboards. How about Skateboard World skatepark that was just behind the theater? I used to skate there in the late seventies. Thanks for posting this.
Finally ! I've waited 44 years to see this film! Last time i had searched the title i found it was only available on DVD for an outrageous price. I remember seeing this movie on the TV show that played the award winning short film winners of the time. I was probably 11-12 years old and felt i'd really identified with the kid and his interest for the girl. Can't wait to see the whole thing! Thanks for the post and profound nostalgia!
I remember seeing this film together with "The Russians are Coming The Russians are Coming!" in 1966. From the signs in the strip mall and on the truck, I'm guessing it was filmed in the city of Rolling Hills Estates on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Great little film.
This classic always cracks me up. I grew up with these guys. Greg Carroll was always such a prick. I was just talking with an old mutual friend about Greg. He went out on a blind date back at age 40, picked a fight with the guy at the next table, police showed up and the woman went home in a cab, alone. See you guys at the 40th South High reunion next year.
I saw this in the THEATRE when it came out. I was in Vientiane, Laos where my dad was assigned, and I think it was an opener for The Longest Day or something.
Takes me back.
But I remembered it when I was reading about the "skateboarding pioneer" who died from the bug sting, and I know that the real pioneers came before he did.
All the neighborhoods still look the same except the Rolling Hills Plaza parking lot and the hill at the top of Cypress St is be demolished as we speak. I first saw this film at Lomita School in about 1976. They'd show it just before summer each year. Nice posting!

That steep street they're riding down is Monte D'Oro in the Hollywood Riviera section of Torrance.
And that's the parking lot of the old Rolling Hills Theatre that was on PCH just east of Crenshaw.
