the used never sold out. since when is writing a catchy melody selling out? i thought that was what music was about, writing music that appeals to people. the used just evolved is all. the write what they want to, not a single album has the same sound, they never went poppy, i never hear them on the radio. the song blood on my hands is about being a serial killer, thats soooo mainstream. they are wo they are, just enjoy the music people.

Its simply changing your sound from what it initially was, to something that appeals to a wider variety of people. Now in truth, The Used never was really consistantly good so I don't see why anyone could complain about them selling out instead of just enjoying the good song they make every now and then, but hey, what can you do? I think it's a bit unfair for people to say that Bert doesn't write meaningful lyrics anymore, when indeed he does. Sure, they may not be centered around the same themes as this record, but can you blame him? Bert wrote the lyrics to their first album after coming out of drug rehab and living on the streets--parts of his life that no longer surround him. You can't expect him to write about the same shit forever, or for that matter, to keep making the same fucking record.
I actually totally agree. I'm not a fan of their new style, although I also know it's not their fault. After eight years of touring screaming, smoking, and drinking... the screaming is eventually going to die.
HOWEVER their lyrics stay as close to the heart as ever. Their first album was about their homelessness, their second was dedicated to his girlfriend who died of a drug overdose with his unborn child, and the third is more about drugs/his friendship with Gerard Way.

This album, this song in particular reminds me of freshman year of college, listening to this in the car, smokin weed and just jamming! Why did The Used go in a different direction? They are still alright I guess, but their new stuff doesn't even compare!
