Oh my, imagine elegant Dorothy Kilgallen "walking down 5th Avenue" holding garbage in her hand like some haute couture accessory! Haha!
I wish Mr. Perkins had been a regular panelist! Even if the men are more or less pleasant (like good Mr. Cerf), only Perkins seems to match the women's... pulchritude! :)
Does it strike anyone besides me ( after having watched at least 100 of these WML segments here on YouTube myself) how often Daly has to answer the questions for these guests while they sit there, apparently dumbfounded as to how they should answer even the most straight forward of questions about what they do?
It's so interesting how times have changed. I'm sure none of us would put on our "Levi's" on to deal with garbage these days! I love this trivial stuff that really shows the time gap!
As with the singing garbagemen on another episode, I can't help thinking that Daly and the guest gave the panel a false lead at the start. Sure, there's a product (of sorts) involved, but that statement is usually understood by all to mean that the guest produces the product. Mrs. Yates doesn't produce garbage; she collects it from the people who really produce it.
Still, it's a giggle to watch Daly field such posers as the utility or luxury of garbage.
Got that right. Daly certainly is amusing and he is mostly literal in his answers, but he has lead them right down the garden path -- or in this case the road to the dump.
Dorothy plays so seriously and to win, so when she asks questions as loaded as 3:45 > it is a double treat.
I agree. Mr. Daly is, to be sure, a prince, but how can it be construed that the garbage is a product? She doesn't produce it; rather, she conveys it.
Of course, it's just a game, right? Thanks very much for posting.

As soon as John said "Levis," Arlene knew she worked with garbage. That was the 50's, when only the lowest of menial laborers wore denim.
