  • Got any details on the actual history of this particular Tiger ie where and when it was captured ect?

  • @taipan185 hi, tunisia 1942. Bovington tank museum web site has every single detail you could ever want about this. have a look. google tiget 131

  • wow, awesome piece of history we have here.Very intimidating tank.

  • Wow. The tiger looks really intimidating, can you imagine being the commander of a M4 Sherman or T34, raising out of the commander's cupola only to see a Tiger taking aim on your tank? I'd be out of that thing in two seconds before the 88. blows a hole right through the tank (or me...)

  • @LuvMeOrh8me2 also considering it lyk, never missed. ever. due to its sights

  • The tiger is much better than your cheap sherman

    quality made in germany !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Germany Rulez

  • @Tobman94 - Too late in arriving strategically. Too long in design & production , too few , too complicated and over engineered and too wide for the german rail system and overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of cheap mass produced Russian and US tanks. A beautifully made and awesome tank though. A champion of tanks albeit flawed in many ways.

  • Fritz is looking a bit fat at 0:49

  • I need to go to europe to see this event, its occurs every year right? Same date?

  • @Reichx4

yes, every June at the Tank Museum in/ Near dorset, England.

  • i wish that big baby could shoot something :D

  • americans cant drive german tanks

  • @HeadThrasher13 this is in the UK

  • Very interesting, All American Armour Day with German tanks -.-

  • @maitimu well had to have something for the tiger to shoot at....

  • @lewran hahaha

  • @lewran I think you mean something to bounce rounds off of don't you : )

  • Is the turret functional? I don't think I saw it traverse in the film.

  • wow wish i was there to see that thing

  • they need to zimmerit dat bitch and throw some tree branches on it before it's legit

  • Every german tank in WW2 had as fundemental colour beige, and on the beige colour the painted green and black and brown etc.

  • German tanks, you need a special tool to disassemble it.

American tanks, anyone can repair it.

  • @BallsInYourJawsBitch

German tanks where a good tool for disassembling American tanks, very good indeed.

  • Sod that!, a REAL ONE! Awesome! Is that still at Bovington?

  • @moogug yep, still there...and it is beautiful

  • It's a Tiger from the Africa Corps, thats why its painted beige.

  • I want 1 :D

  • They really need to give that thing an authentic paint job

  • @Boilerz1 that is the authentic paint job. The colours it was captured in.. can't get more real than that..

  • @lewran the truth of the matter is there were manny "paint jobs done to them for hecks sake it was war! lol

  • @lewran tigers destined for africa where colored like this

  • @Boilerz1 ist africa corps colors

it was disabled by a 6 pound shell jammed in the turret ring and the crew bails out

  • @Boilerz1 Was captured in the desert, that IS the original paint job...

  • i will die happy if i am ever in the presence of a working tiger

  • My Grandpa burned one of those. And then another one of those burned my Grandpa.

  • I never understood why the Germans, obviously very talented engineers, wouldnt put diesel engines in there tanks?? More torque, longer range, less flammable etc. Is diesel harder to manufacture? Imagine a tiger tank with a huge diesel in 1943.

  • thats a real big tank

  • Next trip is to Bovington...some day.

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 5***** lew

  • damn, tiger's one bad ass tank.

  • I just love the sound of a tiger running , i think that a tiger is the greatest tank of wo2 and the coolest ever made.

  • FINALY a REAL TIGER.

  • he looks like commander Michael Wittman

  • When I was at the Bovington Tank Museum in 1970 I don't think anything was running.

  • @n52nimbus I first went there in 1974 (I think) I didn't see anything 'old' running but there was far more activity with current stuff on the ranges than there is now.

  • @lewran True: I do recall seeing a number of Chieftans roll by while there.

  • if that is an original Tiger...than it is freakin expensive, and in great condition!:O

  • The tiger was an excellent tank, but had the brits put the comet out sooner, the tiger would have met it's match.

  • well not really excellent but superior to its allied counterparts

  • Comment removed

  • Tiger it's A.W.E.S.O.M.E machine !!!

    Extra video good job lewran.

We have one Tiger (in mud) in Poland, near Wroclaw :) it's completely certain information. This one wait for me there... to the time :D:D:D:D

GunsIconsCom - Military and Historical Portal with forum and community.

  • @TheCandleBrother in combat effectiveness it was, not in build quality.

then again the only thing that matters is combat effectiveness.

  • T34 was cheaper & easier to produce, was faster and performed better. Tiger had superior armour, 88mm gun that outgunned the T34 and everything else. Tiger's biggest problem was it was mechanically unreliable and complicated to build & maintain on the battlefield.

  • Typically Americans

  • Look: Let's get real here. Every combatant nation did what it did best. Germany built Swiss watches because the Germans are perfectionists with a history of engineering precision.

The Russians and Americans built in mass because they had the resources and the experience in mass production. They also knew that the more materiel they had, the sooner they'd win the war.

    It ain't rocket science, boys.

  • this may be off topic but Germany made so of the best weapons of the war they just didn't field them in large enough quantities

  • Yeah, American and Russians mass production was impossible to overcome. The Americans could loose 10 Shermans in combat to every Panzer lost and replace them easily. They also had control of the sky over Europe in 44-45 and the Typhoon and Thunderbolt fighter bombers knocked out more Tigers than anything else.

  • @n52nimbus As Stalin said, 'Quantity has a quality all it's own'.

  • @gamesbok Haha!

  • why cant we hear the 88 gun?

  • Quantity has a quality all of its own!

  • Very nice, an early model of the Kampfwagen VI.

  • if i was french.... i would have SHAT it as well if this beast was coming towards me.

  • @amaffmaheid yeah you guys built the best tanks during WWII by far

  • pzkw vi tiger..... one of the best war machines of all times

  • shame there were millions of allied tanks to crush it :(

or is it a shame? o.O

  • you can't compare a sherman with the tiger!

  • I know, I'm just saying it was Quantity over Quality, as with the Sherman and T-34. ^^

  • the shermans and t-34 weren't powerfull than the tiger, but the alies have got a lot of tanks, in comparision with the germans...

  • that's what i said.

    Quality = tiger

    Quantity = Sherman/T34

    Quality over Quantity :D

  • you're right ;) but i like more the tiger!

    greetings!

  • The Tiger is like the Cadillac of tanks, it's big and heavy and looks like it rides smooth.

  • And (like most German tanks) it has a steering wheel, gas, and break pedal. It's basically an armored car on tracks (with an 88mm cannon on top).

  • I love this panzer :)

  • Nice vid!...I think there are about 6 left in the world,2 in US, 2 in france and 1 each in Britain and Russia....could be wrong though.

  • a beautifull tank..

  • The building is now gone... perhaps they did have trouble parking it..... ;-)

  • A thing of beauty is a joy forever... Y'know it should have just plowed through that building, that would have given the spectators a taste of 'Tiger Phobia'! LOL!We'll never appreciate just how terrifying and awesome they must have been in battle.

  • new stuff ? Nice dude :) can't wait :)

  • up there now, under my name..

  • Wow beautifull, only operating Tiger I in the world.

Does anyone know if this Tiger I is capable of rotating the turret?

  • I will ask next weekend, when it will be out and about again at TANKFEST , If it rotates, I will film it for you and put it on here,a

  • Thanks :)

  • wow, instant Tiger Messaging....!

  • Oh yes. It does go around, will be posting new videos (taken just for you) soon...

  • yes it's quite able, and it is not the only operating tiger1 in the world

  • oh yes it is the only one. if not, where are the others?

  • He probably refered to the replica Tiger, it's a converted T-34 not a real Tiger I.

  • yes, anyway, check out my new vid, turret rotating, just for you.....

  • There is one working Tiger in Kubinka Tank Museum in Russia.

They also offered rides on Tiger and some other tanks, but dunno if it's still available.

  • First time I have heard about that... total surprise....

I have a russian (ukrainian) friend in Kiev, I will get her to check it out...

  • Hmm, I checked their site, they only mention Panther as "soon to be in action". Not a word about Tiger.

However, I'm pretty sure I saw some text on their site - they were bragging that they have the only working Tiger in the world. They obviously deleted the info from their site, and also ceased with tank-rides. I clearly remember that there were some pictures of tiger and t-34, and prices of $200 for a ride... That was around 2yrs ago.

  • Heard back from my friend today. She says there is only news on the site about the tanks being newly painted so they look great. She cannot believe Russians have the type of money needed to get anything running again and nothing about them moving at all.

  • That's the shame... But at least they keep them from rusting outside...

So I guess it was just my wishful thinking about one more running Tiger :)

  • I think 131 is Unique. The one from America (aberdeen) is away getting renovated at the moment, a lot of work as the Yanks had cut half of it away to show the insides. perhaps that will be a runner when all is done..

We will all have to wait and see....

  • Id love to see that thing on its full cross country speed, but i guess they dont do this to keep the engine and transmission in a good condition.

  • It will be out and about at the end of the month at Tankfest.

I will try to get some more shots, but can't promise!

  • Would be great, thanks m8!

  • new stuff posting soon.....

  • If I'm correct the Tiger at Bovington was captured by the british in Tunsia. It got into a scrap with some Shermans until a shell glanced off the barrel and got stuck in its turret ring - temp disableing it. The crew panicked and abanonded the Tiger

  • wonderful !!

  • the biggest horror for anone who had to face it on the battlefield. - tiger.

  • Well, I don't think these people are playing war. We all need to be reminded how they fought and why they died. These staged events are very important, just the same as anzac day parades, museums collectors and restorers. Give the people credit for keeping the memories alive!!!

  • well at least in bovington they paint them in some colour rather in the us aberdeen proving ground!! they painted all of the vehicles white!! i mean sell a bomb and pay a fuckin paint job!!

  • Man that is ssooo cool. I would love to drive one over a car or something.

  • It is the correct colour for the tank when it was captured. An inormous amount of work goes into the colour scheme..... It may be german overall sand, but its 'right'..

  • i think this tiger was captured in tunisia maybe not, but why did they painted it so ugly, i have dozens of prettyer schemes on how to paint tiger and this one is awfull

  • man wouldn't you love to drive one of those to work :D

  • LOL

    YES

    YES

    YES

    YES

ill like blow a guy up at the spot light just so i can get through...

    lol

  • Very impressive. There should be a requirement that you can NOT dress up as a pretend soldier unless you were a real one.

  • JAWOLL. DU SAGST ES.

Diese Idioten, die irgendwas nachspielen wollen.

    Krieg ist kein Spiel!!

    ____________

EXACTLY. I cannot understand those IDIOTS, playing war. WAR isn't a game!!

At least only my father can tell, what war was. As he was a Soldier within the Wehrmacht until April / May 1945. But not young idiots.

    WAR isn't funny!

  • this tank looks as big as modern tanks, must have been terifying to ww2 sherman tankers. add best gun ever for ww2, gives u new, much respect for allied soldiers confronting this beast.

  • I believe modern tanks are loosely based on the Tiger.

Tiger changed the way that Tanks were built.

I guess you could say that she was the Grandmother of the Modern tank!!!!!!!

  • No the Panther changed the way tanks were build. The Tiger wasn't ALL that new in engineering. Just thick armour, and a very good gun. The Panther however had an entirely new supsension that allowed it to fire more precise when on the move.

The Tiger is still in my top 3 WW2 tanks (:

  • the panther was base on captured T34 i think this tank was the new engineering "wonder"

    (sry for bad english)

  • THE BEST!!!

  • beautiful engineering

  • Piece of engineering

  • I was in the battle at this show and just to hear this beast rolling into the arena was awesom.. not everyday do you get to go up against such a machine.! it was truly spectacular.. this year will be even better...

  • Roll on the 2009 displays, deffinatley going to go and see that boy rolling out. Absolutley love Tiger's. Evil but beautiful in my eyes. the Germans at the times may have had some odd ideas, but they made wicked bits of kit.

  • Man what I would give just to hear the thump of that 88mm. A truly amazing piece of armour.

  • do a search for on youtube for "Restored jagdpanther firing it's gun"

  • I've seen it, but it's a blank and not an actual representation of the 88mm gun. Its some noise and some smoke, theres little no to recoil when in fact it would have kicked the front end of that tank up quite a bit.

  • If you have a look at the Tiger on its little trip around the arena on the other video I posted, you can see that it is not really slow. Quite agile.

Mind you, in thick mud, or rough terrain and fully loaded it would probably be a bit different.

Who can say. None of us were there in WW2. It is just a lovely Tank.

  • Just to clear things up a bit, in WW2, there was no one "best" tank to do everything. Tactics at the time held different roles for different classes. The Tiger was a heavy tank so speed was not needed or emphasized. Lighter Panthers or even halftracks could perform flanking or breakthrough exploitation, while the Tiger formed the lynchpin of assaults and was the strong anvil in the center of pincer maneuvers.

  • Also, if you listen to some people, you can believe that the Tiger was a static pillbox that could hardly even move. Again, this is complete myth. The Tiger I was nowhere near as ponderous or as mechanically unreliable as the myth now tells us. Listen to the Tiger crews themselves. Sure, the Tiger I had flaws but those flaws were nowhere near as bad as some revisionists like to tell us now. If that were true, the Tiger crews would have hated serving in them. They didn't. They loved their tanks.

  • Definitely the crew loved their tank, omg just look at it 1:18! The suspensions! Its awesome! I bet the T-34 would be negotiating that little kerb thing (I guess) with some jerks. The Tiger? No! Even allied crews themselves prefer being in a Tiger because of the protection it offered and the potent gun that it had.

  • Here is my take on the Tiger: While A good tank killer, It is a tactical Liability When faced with infantry or fast medium tanks. A tank commander of one was hit in the face with a mug of scalding tea, because the tiger is useless without infantry support. So I prefer the T 34.

  • ""So I prefer the T 34. ""

You wouldn't have if you had to serve in them. T34 tank crews had a horrendous survivability rate. In contrast, the Tiger crews had a very very high survivability rate. Compared to other tanks, Tiger crews saw the Tiger almost as a life insurance policy.

  • ""Here is my take on the Tiger: While A good tank killer, It is a tactical Liability""

Actually that was not the case in reality. The Tigers proved their tactical worth time and time again. Did you know, for example, that the Tiger I was by far the best and most successful German tank type used at Kursk???

  • You Misunderstand me about the tiger. I think It is too Slow to be brilliant. If they could have made it a bit more manouverable we wouldn't be having this conversation

  • if if the tiger is so worthless without infantry look up tank aces wittman maybe then you will understand how supperior the tiger tank was to everything on the battlefield

  • Every tank is very vulnerable without infantry support, thats why german tank divisions had Panzer Granadiers.

  • Tiger tank is the best tank in the world~!!!

  • If i ever had the chance to don the infamous Hitlerjugend black panzer officer's uniform and hop in that Tiger tank...for me, would be the next best thing to sex! :p awesome footage on the vid!

  • I was told, the bloke in the uniform in the turret, was just a guy who turned up on the day in the right gear!

  • Thnk you that was great, lucky bastard!

  • you are welcome, home it gets that good again, this years (see my other video) wasnt.

  • DAMM! that is one NASTY tank!

thank god the germans did not make them in large numbers and ran out of petrol for the ones they dID make!

  • your one nasty human!

  • maybe i am a nasty human karl9562210 mate but i was on the winning side! unlike the germans!

remember who has who's tank in THERE museum now!

  • Well your country killed nazis but my peoplel where killed by communists!

And tigers killed russians in our country!

But that is not the point!

Point is that the tank looks cool!

  • narrrr the tiger one was a heverly armoured tank that's true but it was slow, and prone to brake downs like you would not belive! the damm thing was so wide it even had two sets of tracks (one for beening transpoted on railways and the other for combat) the wheel bearings tened to over heat and it was also prone to catch fire for no reason! the best german tank was the Panther!it at least had sloped armour!(like the tigwer two!)

  • The Tiger breaking down like crazy is exagerated. Even the Tiger II didn't break down as often as it is said. Plus the extra tracks make for good improvised armour. "it was also prone to catch fire for no reason"? I'd like some proof on that. I never heard of the Tiger catching fire for no reason.

  • battle of Kursk 1943.. the tiger was reported by the waffen SS(1st div aldoph hitler)to be "unrelable and prone to catch fire" after all THEY should know! they where there!

  • Yes i know this shit!

    I like its looks!

  • Haha! Quality reposte GHK! lol My sentiment exactly :)

  • The king tigers are even worse :D

  • tell me about it mate... they where even more prone to brakedowns and fire....

  • But excluding breakdowns, engine problems, etc, (Since they were rushed in construction) they were the strongest tanks in WWII.

  • But those are things you can't exclude. A broken down tank, no matter how heavlily armoured is a useless sitting duck.

  • True true, but again IF the King Tiger didn't have so many problems..you never know!

  • The problems arose but it was the Heavy Overweight King Tiger. Reduce the weight and what you have is the Mark V, Germany's best tank.

  • Yes! It was even rated as the best tank in WWII.

  • No.. The weight of the King Tiger was caused in its undestroyable Case.

If you read some detailed documentations about it, you know that it was only under motorized.

In fight it was a very, very hard enemy, but 1000PS are definitly undercharged.

But there wasnt many possibilitys at the end of the war...

And i´m happy we lost it!

Wouldn´t like to live under dictators now..

  • if i was in a battle and i saw that tiger coming at me, i know what i would be saying to all of my buddys,..... RETREAT!!!

  • i would say: "WTF is that"

  • i know for a fact that the tiger is real, i'm not sure about the sturmgeschutz though, if that was a real stug 3, it should have 6 smaller main road wheels

  • the stug is a converted 432.

  • I wonder if that tank could still fire live 88mm ammo?

  • As I will be going again this year, and aim to get more good shots of the tiger, are there any particular views/angles I could take for all you tiger fans out there who will never see her in the flesh..so to speak..

  • as far as i know this is the only original tiger with the original tank engine still driveable in the world!

  • correct..

  • yepp, do you saw Kingtiger(saumur) vid on youtube and panther vids(germany, england, russia) on youtube? if not, check them out, they are great too

  • there are some 'new' great shots of the tiger and king tiger being moved around at bovington. I have had a good look at most of the other stuff. Have you seen the real Stug III in Finland?

    Happy looking!

  • Is Europe the only place that they do these tank WWII reenactments.

  • fabulous footage of an awsome vehicle, i thought i'd never actually see this tiger moving in film or real life excellent

  • im a fallschirmjager reenactor myself id give anything to be alongside a tiger at a reenactment

  • I have the utmost respect for anyone who faced the Tiger in battle, and even more respect for the people who accomplished what must have seemed the nigh impossible task of restoring it. It still has the power to inspire awe after almost 70 years.

  • The more I hear about the Tiger the More I realise How courageous the crews of T34's and Shermans and Churchills were.

  • maybach engines where not that good...the engineers at maybach had the nasty habit of making the engines as light as posible therefore making is qiute fragile, ive seen lots of maybachs with cracked cillinders..

  • Interesting "fluffy" idle the Maybach has, must be the govenor?

  • perhaps, or they have tuned in wrongly...anyway, its realy hard getting an maybach to run like this, today there are hardly no people who can let it run the way it was ment to...

  • Hats off for the Sherman crews who had to face that knowing they didn't stand a chance.

  • simply amazing. history recreation. love every minute of it.......... RIP the people who Sacrificed life for war.

  • BRILLIANT!!!!!!!! Absolutely brlliant. 3 cheers for Bovington!!!!! easy 5 star rating!!!

  • Yeah, the Tiger sounded fantastic this year - last year it was a bit ropey.

    Dr. S.
