@hockey161616 Basically, it takes all the data from a car (say for example a race car, where they're using this info to get better lap times) and you get put it on a USB thumb drive and plug it into your PS3 and have a full Ghost Lap of EXACTLY how the car handled on the real life track.
So say the STIG from Top Gear, or your favorite driver has the data log file made, you can DL it and race against them in GT5 to see how you do agains them.
Any one notice that this isn't the GT5 for consoles, but the one they developed for PC (meaning the one that was created within PD development office). Look at the shadows and how clean they are.

Wow that's scary next gen all the other racing sims will probably catch up to Gran Turismo but this gen GT5 is clear winner. Im scared by how accurate it is. I'm waiting for the day when you can't tell the difference between real life and a game in all games not just GT5.

Forza 3 is good, I have it and really enjoy it. Just looking at the few GT5 videos so far though shows me that it will be GREAT, and I will enjoy it more than Forza. I can't wait for the release.
@ 1:35 is a big difference, in how the car reacts to hitting the kerb. The GT5 car looks a bit 'lifeless', 'numb' and generally unresponsive. But otherwise, very impressive! :)
The real footage is bumpier because it's a camera. The game footage is suppose to be your eyeballs in your head, which has natural "shock absorbers" to smooth things out a bit. Of course If you want to feel the Gs you'll need a real car but this is probably as close as it gets in your living room.
thats exactly the problem, GT is marketed as a simulator, and lots of people fall for that, if they've never driven a car. There hasn't been any depth worth mentioning in the series since the second game, prologue should have been a free demo, I wouldn't mind but they put all this emphasis on it being the "real driving simulator" and its anything but

OBVIOUSLY you did not watch this video. Watch when it shows both the real person driving and the Gran Turismo game. That is actual gameplay and its the same cars. They both handled the same and the hand movements were even identical. You are calling Gran Turismo unrealistic crap when Forza handles every car like it has some GRID aspects to it and when this video shows how much more realistic Gran Turismo is.
The full Gran Turismo 5 game has customization of the cars. Forza doesn't pay attention to all details. They tell you its a simulator when everything handles better then the top of the line car. You have baseless assumptions. Cars don't swiftly go around every corner with ease unless you are a professional. Forza is an arcade racer with some realistic things like the barely noticable deformation, car customization, and damage. Which are both crappy.

Notice how much bumpier the real life footage is compared to GT? This is really noticable in Forza 3 aswell. Plus not many seem to have noticed the complete lack of "air" in Forza!
Doing 200 mph+ down the Mulsanne straight at Le Mans for example, all you can hear is engine. No wind or tire roar whatsoever.
I think NFS shift has by far the most realistic background/track detail, lighting effects etc. (and bumps) so far but the car detail and physics etc. are just.... SHITE! lol
@ExoticlyExtreme you must only be a gamer and not a gear head at all in the least. in gran turismo the cars dont even burn rubber, in forza theres been almost no detail over looked. you can even take for example the new Camaro, and swap in the ZR1 LS9 engine, not to mention a whole load of other upgrade options, the cars drive more as you expect, in gran turismo prologue, even a ferrari doesn't handle great, and I'm expecting the final product to be the exact same in terms of car performance

The first game didn't even have weight shifting(I believe that is what it is). The first game was not even close to GT4. Forza 3 shows nothing over GT4 on the actual driving part.
This game is a simulator. It is practically the most realistic one. If it was just pretty graphics then the game would be released by now.
Turn off driving aids and stop saying that just because a car doesn't handle good that it is not realistic. When racing a car you shouldn't expect it to be all easy and feel like you are just floating around. Turn off driving aids when you play. Also, Forza is full of tuned custom cars. They all don't handle anything like the real things.

@codo27 Forza 3 had less realistic driving physics than Gran Turismo 4. Forza isn't even marketed as a simulator - the development team stated that they were attempting to bring driving games to a "broader audience," rather than focusing on realistic physics. Then there's the sheer depth of Gran Turismo games. They will quite literally keep you entertained for years. Compare that to Forza's frustratingly shallow season play mode.
This is great but hopefully they get the tire and engine sounds right. Because they are some of the most important things on a racing sim and they suck major ass in prologue.
And hopefully there will be better Logitech G25 support because i had a hard time driving Prologue with it. The slightest movements at high speeds made you spin out and drifting was almost impossible.
And to the guys complaining about the hand movement in forza 3. Play it with a wheel. Its way more realistic and you get better hand movement.
the hands on the wheel match the turning input in gt5, in forza 3 the cockpit view wheel moves like 1 inch but the car is turning a lot! fuckin fake forza 3
and the animation in this video is not the final one... hand crossover with full 900 degrees rotation was confirmed at CES 2010 and 2-3 old videos from the prologue showed it (even gt hd concept had it, you could see it using chase cam+rear view)
i seen the handcrossover in cockpit view in gt hd but only when the car spins out, i hope they make handcrossover when your taking like a tight 25mph turn in the full game, its a small thing but it adds to the realism, i have forza 3 and when you turn, the car turns then the wheel starts to turn, small thing to complain about though, forza is alright but im waiting for gt5....

One thing..the real driver is able to see through the door windows when cornering, but gamer can't. He has to turn the analog stick. I wonder TrackIR or something supports PS3.

Notice how much bumpier the real life footage is compared to GT? This is really noticable in Forza 3 aswell. Plus not many seem to have noticed the complete lack of "air" in Forza!
Doing 200 mph+ down the Mulsanne straight at Le Mans for example, all you can hear is engine. No wind or tire roar whatsoever.
I think NFS shift has by far the most realistic background/track detail, lighting effects etc. (and bumps) so far but the car detail and physics etc. are just.... SHITE! lol

@ExoticlyExtreme you must only be a gamer and not a gear head at all in the least. in gran turismo the cars dont even burn rubber, in forza theres been almost no detail over looked. you can even take for example the new Camaro, and swap in the ZR1 LS9 engine, not to mention a whole load of other upgrade options, the cars drive more as you expect, in gran turismo prologue, even a ferrari doesn't handle great, and I'm expecting the final product to be the exact same in terms of car performance

@codo27 Yes do do burn rubber, gt4/5 has the same system as Forza 2-3. And the point is, you can stuff horsepowers and all kinds of shit into a car, but that doesnt make it drive like a dream. Gt4 achieved to do that, i once pimped an old porsche and it was crap even after i tuned it all out. in Forza they all drive like a dream. Don't get me wrong, i just ordered copy of forza 3. And gt5 isnt all about tuning but about simulation.

@ExoticlyExtreme turn on GT5P, the cars do not lay rubber at all. you think I dont know its not all about horsepower? they certainly dont all drive like a dream in forza, I've raced cars in every class and they perform like they should, the fact is gran turismo tries too hard to be authentic when its farthest from, and forza has a very authentic feel while still remaining fun, the way a game should be, I have it on hard difficulty and everything seems ok to me

@codo27 Dont go talking about authentic please, Gran turismo was the first real driving simulator, and gt has a much wider racing genre ( rally, formula 1, Nascar, normal cars, super cars, le mans cars etc) And gt5 has been in development for over 4 years, you can't expect it too be crap. And you know why there is a beta? because they can fix all the faulthy stuff then. Please stop bashing gt, you know it's gonna have alot more cars and race types.

The ferrari handles much more realistically in this game then it does on Forza 3. The Ferrari in GT5 Prologue handles more realistic then Forza 3,
The first game didn't even have weight shifting(I believe that is what it is). The first game was not even close to GT4. Forza 3 shows nothing over GT4 on the actual driving part.
This game is a simulator. It is practically the most realistic one. If it was just pretty graphics then the game would be released by now.

Turn off driving aids and stop saying that just because a car doesn't handle good that it is not realistic. When racing a car you shouldn't expect it to be all easy and feel like you are just floating around. Turn off driving aids when you play. Also, Forza is full of tuned custom cars. They all don't handle anything like the real things.

@codo27 Forza 3 had less realistic driving physics than Gran Turismo 4. Forza isn't even marketed as a simulator - the development team stated that they were attempting to bring driving games to a "broader audience," rather than focusing on realistic physics. Then there's the sheer depth of Gran Turismo games. They will quite literally keep you entertained for years. Compare that to Forza's frustratingly shallow season play mode.

And hopefully there will be better Logitech G25 support because i had a hard time driving Prologue with it. The slightest movements at high speeds made you spin out and drifting was almost impossible.
And to the guys complaining about the hand movement in forza 3. Play it with a wheel. Its way more realistic and you get better hand movement.

and the animation in this video is not the final one... hand crossover with full 900 degrees rotation was confirmed at CES 2010 and 2-3 old videos from the prologue showed it (even gt hd concept had it, you could see it using chase cam+rear view)

i seen the handcrossover in cockpit view in gt hd but only when the car spins out, i hope they make handcrossover when your taking like a tight 25mph turn in the full game, its a small thing but it adds to the realism, i have forza 3 and when you turn, the car turns then the wheel starts to turn, small thing to complain about though, forza is alright but im waiting for gt5....

looks good yes game looks a bit darker looking than the real life but also think of this, even in real life day to day weather changes and makes everything look darker, lighter etc, so side by side is never gonna look 100% not even side by side of the same real track on a different day.

You know nothing.This called HDR.Your eyes and cameras work the same - adapting to lumination.If you turn up brightness then sky turns to white.Forza is perfect example of WRONG HRD application (cockpits are bright but track is almost white (SEBRING)...
Again why so many people thinking that they are smarter than PD...oh kids...
