The economy today means energy. All other forms of commerce is the direct result of cheap and abundant energy. People will not be told when peak oil has arrived, it will just happen to them. We may be forced back to a sub-billion population if we don't get the fossil fuel substitute sorted out soon, and that will be one of mankind's most important undertakings to date. Strange times we may see.
Because of peak oil, peak phosphorus, etc. The USA will, by our own wastefulness and lack of alternative energy supply infrastructure development will do ourselves in. The world's absolutely huge fossil fuel energy dept will cause the whole world into the coming intense resource wars. If climate change does occur then our already being at a straining point will push us over the brink.
@gosciu555 The way out of debt is to repudiate it. Arrest the Wall Street and City of London bankers for plundering our treasury. OUTLAW our government from EVER borrowing. Institute a self-eliminating system of CREDIT along with convertible banknotes, and begin to circulate metallic money with bills of exchange again.

The way out of debt is to NOT PAY, at least for a while. There has to be a rescheduling of debt.
