your right macs can't play games......... unless you use windows which you can for no extra cost ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah
well the biggest minus of Windows is it's registry, MAC OS's don't have it, it have some sort of ini files, if they are deleted they renew automatically, if registry is deleted, then you need to reinstall the whole OS, plus registry will make you more junk than you can ever imagine.. But MAC and PC, are all the same in most case, but great minus of MAC now is that it's new processor series are incompatible with windows OS and many WIndows based programs..The market will be won by Windows..again
@sedjetra No, the biggest minus of windows is the fact that the nt kernel, the core was never designed around multi user, and the fact that microsoft daisy chained a bunch of vulnerable APIs and internet explorer into it. It means you crack a vulnerable application even remotely, you can reach the kernel.
@xyzoneon Yeah, you're right. I know that internet explorer have this and many more weaknesses, that why I never use it;) But, though windows have this "bloated registry thingy" I still love windows.
@sedjetra It doesn't matter if you actually run the internet explorer application or not. Certainly it's worse odds if you do, but just by the fact of it being part of the internals creates a vulnerability. The same thing goes for every other API plugged into the core. It's the nt kernel design. The whole windows kernel is inherently vulnerable to remote attacks.
@multidani98 OSX is easier and faster to hack than windows, mainly due to the fact Apple never thought it could be done so they never bothered to put in any shred of natural system security.
Mac mac, everyday u say ur system secure, but hacking into ur system is easier than hacking into pc. Look at iAntiVirus threat list: 116 threats found.
Read the description there, complete infiltration to system.
With u explaining ur users a false hope, then u made them a very easy prey to virus maker.
The reason Mac's don't get viruses is because designers want to hit as many people as they can. With Macs having about 15% of the market (PC, being 85%), it's not a difficult choice. But since all this boasting has started, hackers have started to target Macs. Enjoy your Mac Antivirus 2011 scareware.
@Rundvelt MacDefense, or any of the other names, ARE NOT viruses. They are adware. Its not a threat to your computer. Its an application you install, and it just manipulates your system like any other application, except it causes negative things to happen. (Not security breaches... just opens windows)
@Rundvelt Thats the problem. Its not malicious. And to disable it you just open up Activity Monitor and click end process. If its a virus, its the least defensive virus ever.
@Rundvelt Then explain why Mac OS had about 100 or so? And as soon as OS X came out it went to 0 and has remained that way for over 10 years. Was the marketshare for Apple greater when OS 9 was in use? Hardly.
The one with the highest rated comment must be kidding! Installing ubuntu is like giving you're computer AIDS! And then raping it! which leads to you having AIDS! :O What I have is a 2 TB iMac and I run 500 GB windows and 1.5 TB Mac... That's what I reccomend!
This, is the only thing I dislike about my new computer. Can't it just let Norton do its job instead of asking me to allow myself to play Age of Empires all the time?
"But PCs get blue screens of death every ten seconds and they're so slow! I'm always on the go and I need to write my novel at Starbucks and make crappy movies with retard-friendly programs like iMovie! It only cost me $1,200!" I hate to break it to you Mac fan-boys, but Apple designs their Macs to purposely overheat and break down over time. PCs will also tend to be cheaper with higher specs, anyway...
@Twisted4000 do you have proof they do that because i had 4 pc's in 5 years due to problems. got mac still kicking. on year 4. PC blows just mad your to broke to get one
@iFleenor5 - Well I'm not sure if I exactly have proof, but Apple doesn't have a huge reason to increase the Mac OS X's security, since there aren't many malware released for it... HOWEVER if someone MAKES a new malware for it, it won't take long for it to get infected.
Fresh installation of Windows 7 on a brand new, custom build, gaming PC: BSOD before installation, BSOD during installation, BSOD after installation, BSOD without endings.
You know what I did?
I gave the PC Linux Mint Debian Edition: No single crash at all, super fast, and I'm happy!
@UltimatePisman i'll give you some credit for putting one together, but BSOD? i'm not even sure it exists anymore. my rig has been running win7 x64 since day one, never had a problem. maybe you put a stick of ram in backwards, got an unsupported mobo? in all seriousness, those are a few of the only things that could cause BSOD. hardware/driver failure. not really the fault of the os.
@UltimatePisman well I can't really tell from over here. probably driver issues. i'm willing to bet on that. or a bad install/wrong version. or possibly bios conflicts. very likely is hardware related. either you changed something between installs or linux works around whatever problems you may be having.
regardless, you can't blame the os for this unknown problem. if you knew what it was, then it might be different.
@UltimatePisman that's a hefty amount of memory. and is most likely your problem. if it's a custom card, i really have no details. do you have custom drivers? regardless, you should have installed without the gfx first, then tried to tweak the drivers.
I have both a mac and a pc, I use the pc for gaming and I like the compatibility, and I use the mac for everything else. I am not a mactard or a pctard, I like both.
If this question is serious then yes, I do know how to solve it:
1. Get a Mac
OR
2. backup all important files, get the OS dvd, put it into your dvd drive, on startup hit "delete" to enter BIOS, set your dvd drive as the first boot device, hit a key on next startup to boot from dvd, follow instructions to install OS and then you should have a fresh copy of Win7. Simple! =)
i dont know about crashing ive never had a problem with a pc... i just dont like apple products... like ipod is probably the only thing i like but even then i dont have one.... i just dont like how the Macs arent as customizable as a pc and how they cant play any games that are actually good. just my opinion

I don't have any on my windows computer, unless you count cookies as viruses (which would be stupid because you get cookies from every site you go to).
I've had both Macs and PCs and I like them both. And I don't care what any vista fan boys say, this commercial is SO true, just exaggerated. Love it! (I'm using vista as I speak.)
Google: "Questions for Pwn2Own hacker Charlie Miller"
I quote"Its really simple. Safari on the Mac is easier to exploit. The things that Windows do to make it harder (for an exploit to work), Macs dont do. Hacking into Macs is so much easier. You dont have to jump through hoops and deal with all the anti-exploit mitigations youd find in Windows. "
Charles Miller is a computer security researcher who spent five years working for the NSA. Miller demonstrated his hacks publicly on products manufactured by Apple. He won a $10,000 cash prize at a hacker conference in Canada for being the first to find a critical bug in the ultrathin MacBook Air—his exploit took 2 minutes. He holds a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Notre Dame.
Is it really secure if you only have do is press yes or no, at least on a mac you have to enter a Admin password. The mac is way is less annoying and more secure because you can't do anything without a Admin password.
in the vista you don't have to type your password every time you want to leverage your app because of the old policy from Microsoft that took them so far, but with so many technical issues. The support until you can backward compatibility policy...
Do I have to remind you that not long ago their best selling system wasn't NT based, and in such system you are always "root". It is not too long since they asked for XP developers to respect access restriction with little success.
No one was talking about access passwords, I was talking about FIle System Permissions, the way apps expect the filesystem permissions to behave....
Leverage your app, means to give it permission to act as other user setpid() or in behave of another group setgid()...
And Dos based windowses don't have any filesystem permission or UID system, NT implements it as ACLs (which are then ported to many unix flavors cause of its greater flexibility)
What, are you worried someone is going to knock you out and hit yes? It's only asking if you're aware the program is active. If you don't recognize it, you should stop it.
Yesterday i talked to a Mac owner about advantages of owning a PC, i almost had him understand why PC's are better. Then he said to me "yeah but you look 20 years older when you are on your PC" i couldn't believe it!
That is when i came to realize that Mac is creating stereotypes! based on lies! I've had vista for over a year and I've never had any problems with it!
Hitler said: If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough, it will be believed.
We're not smart. Apple nerds are just cool. When we're not at our Apple computers, we're still a part of Apple. Now, that's family. Trust the family, dude. We're rebels with a cause.
Actually, a study did say Mac users were more intelligent than PC users. Mac users make more money, and Mac users have higher intelligent quotients. But, that's really not fair, because any dork can walk into Wal-Mart and buy a PC with a plastic chassis. Oh, sorry. Did I say plastic? Didn't mean to point out that Macs are designed better. Really. I wasn't. lol
That doesn't connote a lack of intelligence. That is called a typo. I use to teach English. If you want to challenge me on the oxymoron, gerund, preposition, nouns, verbs, adverbs, helping verbs or any other grammatical morsel, I would surely like to see you dissect a sentence of my choice.
webjthefirst: "no one needs to make a virus for Macs; there are many flaws without them"
Hmmm, funny thing about it, I've had Macs all my life and this one for over a year. Never a single problem that wasn't my fault, never adware, never a single program or system software failure, never nothing. Hmmm... Well, if you think this is flawed, I'd rather joint he flawed guys, man! Long live Apple!
Woo hoo, if you say my total peace of mind and fun over the past 1.5 years is flawed, then I'm gonna stay w/ the flawed guys. Apple rulez! Never one virus? Never adware? Can run all operating systems simultaneously? Windows games? Most exciting moment in 2008 was one virus for the year I removed. How many do ya'll have? Never one system failure? Never forcing me to use specific software, no malware, no spyware... Yeah! I'll take the flawed Apple computer! Tasty!
Lets think about it this way. I want a piece of software to do a certain thing. I own a Windows PC. What do I do? Google it, Download it, Install it. If I own a Mac PC, its a bit more difficult. I understand there are merits in this: Almost guaranteed compatibility etc. etc. but I really don't like not being able to take apart everything on my computer to see how it works. I don't like background processes that I have no way of finding. I don't like things using my internet without telling me.
webjthefirst, ummm, that's not true. I download programs online all the time for my Mac. Man, you are brainwashed. You must have never owned a Mac in your life. As for compatibility, I can run Windows Vista faster than the majority of PC laptops on my Macbook Pro. Hmmm... Guess compatibility goes out the window. I can run any software you can on your PC plus the Mac programs which are designed better anyway. Background processes? Macs using internet w/o u knowing? You're brainwashed. Finis!
I guess that's what happens when you're twenty-four years old, think you're ten foot tall and bullet proof and think you know more than a thirty-seven year old computer tech who's been in this game for over twenty years of his life. Nice try, webjthefirst. Enjoy your youth. Macs rule. Always have.
Boy, when you were four years old, I was running a 1200 baud modem on an 8ghz Atari 1040ST. You don't even remember watching the packets being transferred over a BBS client and waiting an hour to download a 2400 kilobyte demo showing a flock of pixeled geese flying over a computer generated horizon. Go tell that garbage to someone who's listening.
I think the point is that if you turn it off it doesn't do any good at all, but if it's turned on it's needlessly intrusive. There's no middle ground between the two.
Not that I really give a toss either way, being a (relatively) happy Mac AND PC user.
I love my mac and all but Apple are so smug and up their own arses with this stuff. I wish they'd just concentrate on the good points of their machines instead of making fun of the competition all the time, especially when a lot of its BS.
Actually yes, it was a challenge but it was a weekend project, my buddy in Michigan got Unix to run on a Mac. Basically, all the hype says 'I'm willing to buy a mediocre operating system with a glossy finish.' But how many games can the Mac OS X tray and play?
Tracer, maybe you should try a firewall, because if you not, windows is very vulnerable against attacs. Games? You can install easily BootCamp, with Vista if you want, or XP, play all games you want. Now you're going to answer: blablabla, you must install WINDOWS! well... I can. Can you install mac in your pc?
Sorry man, I use XP. No 'cancel or allows' here bitch! How many GOOD games (with the exception of WoW, damn you for stealing my life and girlfriend) can play on a Mac? CS? FEAR? No.
You are allowing Mac's salutation, cancel or allow?

The mac is way is less annoying and more secure because you can't do anything without a Admin password.
ibpointless2 2 years ago
in the vista you don't have to type your password every time you want to leverage your app because of the old policy from Microsoft that took them so far, but with so many technical issues.

And Dos based windowses don't have any filesystem permission or UID system, NT implements it as ACLs (which are then ported to many unix flavors cause of its greater flexibility)

sorry , i didnt it read it right
Dillon1225 2 years ago
What, are you worried someone is going to knock you out and hit yes? It's only asking if you're aware the program is active. If you don't recognize it, you should stop it.

The Vista security system is really annoying, but lives up to its promises (annoyingly)
Would you like Vista to execute this Trojan virus?
[YES] [NO]

Yesterday i talked to a Mac owner about advantages of owning a PC, i almost had him understand why PC's are better. Then he said to me "yeah but you look 20 years older when you are on your PC" i couldn't believe it!
That is when i came to realize that Mac is creating stereotypes! based on lies! I've had vista for over a year and I've never had any problems with it!
Hitler said: If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough, it will be believed.
Exactly what Mac is up to!

MAC nerds are arrogant and think they are so smart.
sirdoccy 3 years ago
We're not smart. Apple nerds are just cool. When we're not at our Apple computers, we're still a part of Apple. Now, that's family. Trust the family, dude. We're rebels with a cause.
blicksflicks 3 years ago
Actually, a study did say Mac users were more intelligent than PC users. Mac users make more money, and Mac users have higher intelligent quotients. But, that's really not fair, because any dork can walk into Wal-Mart and buy a PC with a plastic chassis. Oh, sorry. Did I say plastic? Didn't mean to point out that Macs are designed better. Really. I wasn't. lol
blicksflicks 3 years ago
Yes, that's right. MAC users WERE more intelligent than PC users. I guess that's why you said MAC users are not smart in your first reply.
sirdoccy 3 years ago 2

Long live Apple!
blicksflicks 3 years ago
webjthefirst: Macs are flawed.
Tasty!
blicksflicks 3 years ago
Lets think about it this way. I want a piece of software to do a certain thing. I own a Windows PC. What do I do? Google it, Download it, Install it. If I own a Mac PC, its a bit more difficult. I understand there are merits in this: Almost guaranteed compatibility etc. etc. but I really don't like not being able to take apart everything on my computer to see how it works. I don't like background processes that I have no way of finding. I don't like things using my internet without telling me.
webjthefirst 3 years ago
webjthefirst, ummm, that's not true. Finis!
blicksflicks 3 years ago
I guess that's what happens when you're twenty-four years old, think you're ten foot tall and bullet proof and think you know more than a thirty-seven year old computer tech who's been in this game for over twenty years of his life. Nice try, webjthefirst. Enjoy your youth. Macs rule. Always have.
blicksflicks 3 years ago
Boy, when you were four years old, I was running a 1200 baud modem on an 8ghz Atari 1040ST. You don't even remember watching the packets being transferred over a BBS client and waiting an hour to download a 2400 kilobyte demo showing a flock of pixeled geese flying over a computer generated horizon. Go tell that garbage to someone who's listening.
blicksflicks 3 years ago
an 8GHz Atari, that is amazing.... that almost rivals my current Windows PC. Besides, you must be listening, cos your replying.

That advert even points out that you can turn it off...seriously who buys in to this shit?
knighty 4 years ago
I think the point is that if you turn it off it doesn't do any good at all, but if it's turned on it's needlessly intrusive. There's no middle ground between the two.
Not that I really give a toss either way, being a (relatively) happy Mac AND PC user.

I love my mac and all but Apple are so smug and up their own arses with this stuff. I wish they'd just concentrate on the good points of their machines instead of making fun of the competition all the time, especially when a lot of its BS.

Actually yes, it was a challenge but it was a weekend project, my buddy in Michigan got Unix to run on a Mac. Basically, all the hype says 'I'm willing to buy a mediocre operating system with a glossy finish.' But how many games can the Mac OS X tray and play?
tracerhoodie 4 years ago
actually, macs can play all games that windows can, all you need is bootcamp, or parallels.
greatmaju1 4 years ago 4
Tracer, maybe you should try a firewall, because if you not, windows is very vulnerable against attacs. Games? You can install easily BootCamp, with Vista if you want, or XP, play all games you want. Now you're going to answer: blablabla, you must install WINDOWS! well... I can. Can you install mac in your pc?
m477i 4 years ago
and... um... why would anyone wanna install osx on the pc?
Oh and btw it IS possible to install OSX on the pc.
