Warren's brilliance as a ballad writer will not be surpassed. It is ashame "The Real Deal" never got his dues as a major contributor to rock, and pop music. His songs were heart felt, well composed, and made you feel the pain too. Like we've all had. God Bless you Warren Zevon. It has been a "Greater Earth", knowing your music, and the scope of your talent. You will never be forgotten by us "Zevonite".
My friend Circumpunk. You selected a beautiful song that Warren wrote for Martin Scorcese movie that Warren wrote the score for back in the 80's. A beautiful love song about loss. Warren was the best song writer in Rock in the 70's and 80's. Too bad he never received the recognition he deserved. "The Real Deal".
His voice is just so perfect on this song, brilliantly portraying the emotions felt in the lyrics ... Just listen to the pain expressed when he sings lines like "Never thought I'd have to pay so dearly ... " - It makes you hurt with him and think about any similar experiences or emotions you have had in your own life ... Simply great ... Wayne
@wmw2525 We are in complete agreement here. I have been receiving a lot of traffic on my Wazza uploads lately. Every response is unbelievable Wayne. The loyalty of Warren's fan's is as strong as his loyalty to us. I can't explain it. He's been dead a long time but those of us who love him love him for life. His honesty and courage not only writing these words but singin' them from the heart makes me feel as though he's never left us. OK...enough blubberin' for tonight mate!
@Circumpunk ... Not at all surprised by the strong interest and support shown in your Warren Zevon uploads. The more you listen to his repertoire and watch his live performances and witty / funny / honest interviews ( the Letterman ones are classics ), the more you admire and love what he did .... As you say, it is incredible, the number of posts that say how much he is still missed ... Thanks heaps to you and all the others who make his work available to enjoy ... Wazza Frorever !!! ... Wayne
Saw him in Wash, DC at a club that was torn down near Georgetown.... it was a great experience. I got there too early and he was setting up the stage alone, he and I were the only ones there...he loved to tour.
Once at a concert in Houston at Rockefeller's, Warren asked the crowd of 250 -"Can you think of a song with some tenderness in it?" He asked twice, nobody said a word. The answer's obvious - Tenderness On the Block.
I was thinking hard but I was stoned. I didn't want to let him down. "Accidentally like a Martyr!!!" I hollered. "No, that's not it" he said as he broke into Tenderness on the piano. Just a fond little memory of WZ in his honor. My Brush with Greatness as Letterman would call it.
@TheScotthutch I did the same kind of thing at a comedy concert. The comedian asked what's a ritzy clothing store in Birmingham? I yelled out "K-mart"...it brought the house down in laughter. My brush with greatness. Your's is better than mine. I'm jealous!
I also saw him at Rockefellers in Houston in the late 80s, Had just gotten turned onto him. It was him and two others but no drummer. At one point a girl yelled out from the balcony right before he went on, saying "I love you Warren", and he mouthed "Prove It" to her. Not sure if anyone else caught it but I did, he was hilarious. he was great.
@TheScotthutch He talked to you!! That would make my LIFE! Oh well, in this life he won't talk to me but hey, you never do know about afterward...and yes this is such a tender song.
'If you belive in forever than life is just a one night stand if there is a R&R heaven well you know they got a hella of a band ' I know i have made this qquote before it just feels right i lost someone close to me today .Warrens music will wash my tears away tonight 'Time marches on time stands still time on my hands time to kill blood on my hands and my hands in the till down at the 7777777-11111111'
THANK YOU ONE AND ALL FOR POSTING WARRENS MUSIC I'M NOT COMPUTER SAVY OBVIOUSLY HOWEVER I DO SPEAK FROM THE HEART THANK YOU AND SPECIAL THANKS TO Mr.ZEVON ADDICT YOU MAKE MY DAYS BEARABLE WITH YOUR E- MAILS I LEAVE YOU WITH THIS

@Circumpunk I"m not good with the computer IT IS TRUELY AN ACT OF LOVE I SAW WARREN many times HE IS looking down and sayimg to himself I'll be damed a lot of people love my work I talked to him just once in Seabrite N.J. He was very nice to talk to he signed everything just two pictures i'm not an autograph hound however i would not part with them for the world . Take good care and like Warren said "Enjoy Every Sandwich"
Like many people, I came to warren's music through "werewolves." I really liked that song, got a compilation that included it from the library, but then after listening to the rest of the cd, I was hooked completely. i didn't stop until I had every single song on every single album. he is one of my favorite musicians of all time. so versatile. such beautiful ballads like this one, and then that twisted humour comes out in songs like excitable boy. brilliant, truly brilliant.
My friend Circumpunk never gets enough of Warren like me. I was listening to "Live at The Roxy" on my car CD player this morning. Warren wrote beautiful ballads. Many people only saw his "Black Songs" which still instilled a great tongue-in-cheek sense of humor. What can I say about my favorite artist, dead or alive.
@Circumpunk Yeahh, I love this version of the song, it takes the listener into a melancholic mood piece with classical sounding piano and those weeping guitar licks. The guy was a musical genius.
Few musicians had as much heart and soul as Warren. Reaching the end of one of his songs is like coming to the end of a great book. You wish it wasn't over and mourn a little each time it happens. There is nothing like this nowadays.
@Rikkyhardo I guess you'd have to be a Yank to know of him. I picked up the habit in college around 1980. He didn't get any Euro airplay I am told by my Euro friends. He was as mentally unstable as I am. Guess he won my love with these kind of songs. The rest are either politcal or other social commentary on the times. Nothing really has changed since he wrote stuff so it's still good social commentary.
Even though it would now be posthumous, he should be in the Hall of Fame.
