@7504jc Buy some bear mace from canadian tire, your kids wont accidently kill someone or themselves with it and its range is over 30 feet..more than enough for a house and that will stop a burglar in their tracks believe me it feels like your on fire. Guns laying around the house with kids is just a recipe for disaster. Not only that but it also gives more incentive for criminals to try and steal the guns when you are not home, it much easier than breaking into a safe and trigger locks.

as far a i know there is no evidence to suggest that gun control decreases violent crime. In many countries where they claim to have a decreased violent crime rate due to gun control (such as Australia), the crime rate was already on the decrease before gun control. I would feel far safer in a country that allows every responsible person to own a gun.

In fact according to an article in the UK daily mail (july 09) Britain is the most violent country in Europe. @1982FMJ I live in Texas, if you live in a bad area, there are shootings, but not any worse than other states. We passed a handgun law about 15 years ago allowing one to take a course, pass a background check, and get a license to carry a handgun on us as long as it is concealed, criminals don't know if you do. Crime rates dropped over 40%. in 2007 we became allowed to carry a gun in a car without a license. Only one licensed person out of 1000's have been charged. It works very well for us here
@1982FMJ Yes when there are no guns there are no gun crimes. HOWEVER there are still the same amount of violent crimes they just use knives, shovels, explosives, or whatever else is available. Last time I checked Texas didn't have that big of a problem with guns. Places like Chicago however do. Maybe that is because of the people, specifically ignorant aggressive people are the problem. Before you begin to read "statistics" be sure first that you've learned how to. In fact, look to the States that have free-carry laws as opposed to highly restricted gun ownership laws; crime in the former is a fraction of the latter.
Our Current gun laws where put through by manipulating statistics. The year that they used had around 1650 gun related deaths of these over 1500 where suicide, 130 homicides, and around 20 accidents. Of those 6 were deaths of females killed by their husband and 4 were where the wife killed the husband. So the politions said "1600 people die of hand guns in canada. 60% of women die form domestic violence involving guns". making it sound like 60% of 1600 where women. Our current laws are dumb.
Note that Vermont has one of the lowest murder rates and has no gun laws, A 18 yr old can go to the hardware store buy a gun, put bullets in it, carry it in his jacket on to the school ground. What I note the whiter a state is, the less murder there is and conversely the darker the state population is proportionally the higher the murder rates are. Not everyone can have a gun in the U.S. People who have a mental illness, convicted of domestic violence, have a restraining order against them, and even a conviction that could have got them more than a year in jail can't legally own firearms in the U.S. My problem with our gun laws is that they are made for purely political reasons. From what I've been told by cops, this is kind of a grey area. Yes, you can carry a knife, but you may not want to carry a 7" fixed blade combat knife on your belt walking around in the downtown core of a city like say Vancouver. @7504jc Buy some bear mace from canadian tire, your kids wont accidently kill someone or themselves with it and its range is over 30 feet..more than enough for a house and that will stop a burglar in their tracks believe me it feels like your on fire. Guns laying around the house with kids is just a recipe for disaster. Not only that but it also gives more incentive for criminals to try and steal the guns when you are not home, it much easier than breaking into a safe and trigger locks.

as far a i know there is no evidence to suggest that gun control decreases violent crime. In many countries where they claim to have a decreased violent crime rate due to gun control (such as Australia), the crime rate was already on the decrease before gun control. I would feel far safer in a country that allows every responsible person to own a gun.

In fact according to an article in the UK daily mail (july 09) Britain is the most violent country in Europe. In the U.S. it is a constitutional right for one reason, to protect the citizens from a rogue govt. or any other oppressive govt. @1982FMJ I live in Texas, if you live in a bad area, there are shootings, but not any worse than other states. We passed a handgun law about 15 years ago allowing one to take a course, pass a background check, and get a license to carry a handgun on us as long as it is concealed, criminals don't know if you do. Crime rates dropped over 40%. in 2007 we became allowed to carry a gun in a car without a license. Only one licensed person out of 1000's have been charged. It works very well for us here

Last time I checked Texas didn't have that big of a problem with guns. Places like Chicago however do. Maybe that is because of the people, specifically ignorant aggressive people are the problem. And NOT guns. Don't confuse the two. And don't advocate violating the rights of the whole but the few.

The gun registry should only exist for prohibate and some restricted fire arms. Owning a weapon is owning a small, durable part of history

I have a city bylaw that says I Can have a loaded gun for pest control and protection of people or live stock.. Its a law in my city so I can shoot someone if they might be killed and its legal in my city.. You may use a gun at a range pest control hunting or to save a life inculding your own..

It would take someone 30 seconds to reach your bedroom once they kick your front door in. How long does it take to dial 911 and answer all the questions that the emergency operator puts to you? Much longer than 30 seconds. Gun laws in Canada keep the population at the mercy of armed criminals who care nothing about killing innocent people, who often get caught up in inter-gang warfare. This is no longer Trudeau's Canada. Give us the law abiding masses more freedom to defend ourselves.

One can argument against gun control in Canada without bogus references to Hitler. When Hitler put people in a death camp... he had an army. If Canada gets to the state where its army is willing to put you in a death camp... private firearms won't make any difference.
Irrational fear of the government is not a valid argument. Cost, lack of gun crime in Canada to start with, types of private firearms, rural nature of ownership, etc. are all valid arguements. Hitler is not.

Before you begin to read "statistics" be sure first that you've learned how to. In fact, look to the States that have free-carry laws as opposed to highly restricted gun ownership laws; crime in the former is a fraction of the latter.

Our Current gun laws where put through by manipulating statistics. The year that they used had around 1650 gun related deaths of these over 1500 where suicide, 130 homicides, and around 20 accidents. Of those 6 were deaths of females killed by their husband and 4 were where the wife killed the husband. So the politions said "1600 people die of hand guns in canada. 60% of women die form domestic violence involving guns". making it sound like 60% of 1600 where women. Our current laws are dumb.

Note that Vermont has one of the lowest murder rates and has no gun laws, A 18 yr old can go to the hardware store buy a gun, put bullets in it, carry it in his jacket on to the school ground. What I note the whiter a state is, the less murder there is and conversely the darker the state population is proportionally the higher the murder rates are. Compare New Hampshire to Washing DC. for example. Check the USA gov website the crime rates of each state and races in each state, don't believe me

Not everyone can have a gun in the U.S. People who have a mental illness, convicted of domestic violence, have a restraining order against them, and even a conviction that could have got them more than a year in jail can't legally own firearms in the U.S. My problem with our gun laws is that they are made for purely political reasons. Gun laws only keep guns away from law abiding citizens. Criminals are going to have guns regardless of what the laws say.

Gun laws here, Zero sense. Examples; Any .50 cal made by Barrett is prohibited, but you can get .50's made by Steyr. A Walther G22 is prohibited. a .22 cal! Some shotguns are restricted, unless they pump action then they are not. A specific model of the mini 14 is prohibited because it was used in a massacre, but other models of the same mini 14 are perfectly legal. Mag capacity on rifles and carbines was made 4 rounds and handguns 10 rounds because of this specific incident as well. B.S.!

This only proves that the people who are hired to make sure the laws of the land which are superior to court ruling aren't violated, because once you enforce ideals that is a Dictatorship! They are hired to make sure the peace is kept. Oh course that would require proper conduct, education & respect towards civilians which is not the case because as you pointed out, without knowing me that "I'm a guy running around with a knife" which automatically makes me a criminal & require a gun to my face.

The problem is is that the people that make firearms laws in Canada know nothing about firearms. examples; banning specific firearms. Any Barret .50 cal is prohibited, but you can get .50 cals made by Steyr. Limiting mag capacity on handguns to 10. Like you'd be less dangerous than if you had 15 rounds. The Walther G22; even though it's only a .22, but it looks like an "assault rifle" so it's prohibited. I could go on...

If you don't own a gun, you can legally carry a knife. There are no concealed knife laws in Canada.
The Canadian Criminal code:
In section (84) (1) (b)
Any knife that has a blade that opens automatically by gravity or centrifugal force, or by hand pressure applied to a button, spring or other device attached to the handle of the knife. are illegal.
Spring assisted, hunting knives, pocket knives, any other knife is legal to own or carry.

From what I've been told by cops, this is kind of a grey area. Yes, you can carry a knife, but you may not want to carry a 7" fixed blade combat knife on your belt walking around in the downtown core of a city like say Vancouver. Someone is likely to call the cops, "There's a guy running around with a knife!" and you may end up with a gun pointed at you face down on the ground.

Concealed weapon, that's not a real offense that's made up to violate your constitutional rights (Charter of rights) Why do you use hysterical situations! I don't "Run around with a knife. Do you happen to know how easy it is to become a cop? It only takes a few months I recently found out. No previous training, no background in law, provincial or federal. No teaching of The Charter of rights, or civil rights.

It's not that you are breaking any laws, but most cops themselves don't know the law so they err on the side of arresting you first, THEN finding out what the law actually is. Another example would be you legally can transport an unrestricted firearm in the open in a gun rack, unloaded and trigger lock on. But it probably not a good idea unless you live in a remote area or small town.
