  • I had a boss who once who told me," If you can't get enough work, just from word of mouth alone, you'll never make a living at what you do" Tom waits popularity it seems came mainly from word of mouth. Just look at all the views! I don't remember any radio play directly of his recordings. He just produces quality that we all seem to dig & seek out.

  • i hate it when people say "i don't like this because what he sings about religion!" SHUT THE HELL UP IT'S JUST LYRICS IT DOESN'T MATTER good song

  • @sleepy7351 Actually, the lyrics are probably the most important part of the song. But yeah, anybody who's complaining about Waits singing about religion has never heard any of his other music.

  • @TheMandusa yuppp i agree

  • @sleepy7351 how can you say that lyrics don't matter? its an amazing song. because of his voice, the music and the lyrics. :)

  • @MultiJaneBond007 no i didn't mean it like that i meant that the so called "bad" lyrics don't matter THEY ARE JUST LYRICS but yeah the lyrics are important in the song misunderstanding LOVE THE SONG

  • Don't you know there ain't no God, there's just Tom Waits when he's drunk.

  • Boney's high on china white

  • @Stranger293011

    I love waits and diesel

  • Doubtlessly one of the best songs ever... Any insight on the meaning of RGD?

  • I'd love Tom Waits without the incredible music, simply for his hand gestures and facial expressions.

  • Did I hear the whir of the Muffin Research Kitchen?

  • Wasn't this song in Hellboy? I don't remember.

  • @awkwardpizza Yeah, when Myers first meets him it's playing in the background.

I've always found that ironic because Ron Perlman (The actor who plays Hellboy) looks just like Tom.

  • @Malikarcanum oh! ok thanks! it's just on the movie they kinda cut it short because of the dialogue that comes in. i just wasn't sure.

and yes that's true. you can see the similarities in the faces of Tom and Ron. Especially with the little soul patch they both occasionally have!

  • Love this song.......

  • If so, Tom Wait's is God when he's drunk.

  • @MsQwerty09871 you might want to wiki that

  • @MsQwerty09871 "Heartattack and Vine" was covered by Screamin' Jay Hawkins and later featured in a Levi's commercial." Straight from Wikipedia.

  • If one truly follows Toms lyrics he has already confessed to

swinging on another mans vine. Are we not men.

Well Kinsley and Darwin may say. Monkey see Monkey do.

One must toss around this question.

Are lawyers monkeys or snakes ready capitalise on primates?

  • @mitchfurey Are you Mark Mothersbaugh?

  • Some people like cupcakes better.

I for one care less for them.

  • @mitchfurey It's the prince of foods.

  • @mitchfurey no way bro.

you cant have an opinion on youtube.

  • It was covered by Screaming Jay Hawkins for the Levi's advert when Waits refused them permission to use his version. He sued them for making the cover version without his permission and using it to sell stuff. He really doesn't like his songs being used to sell stuff ;)

  • thought it was screaming jay's song. Both rule

  • @yiyuwazza NO! Tom Waits wrote this!

  • I bet she's still a virgin, but it's only 25 til 9...

  • Fabulous Tom.

  • john lee hooker sounds nothing like tom waits, but his songs are just as good

  • whatch him sing this at palace 1...blow ya mind !

  • @dinogvggvg You might be thinking that this is Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who did a cover of this song. John Lee Hooker did not cover this song, and this is most definitely Tom Waits.

  • @dinogvggvg not even close mate

  • Comment removed

  • @dinogvggvg fail...

  • @dinogvggvg your obviously not a tom waits fan if you cant distinguish his voice!

  • @dinogvggvg Your comment is funny

  • @Mackers2317

i have one collection of blues hits and singer on this song is john lee hooker

  • @dinogvggvg And it's THIS version of the song only it says it's by John Lee Hooker? Well anyways this is the first track on Tom Waits' album Heart Attack and Vine. And well, Tom Waits wrote it and stuff. I bet John Lee Hooker digs it at least!

  • "don't you know there ain't no devil there's just god when he's drunk"

  • @AlecKronicle one of the best verses ever written!!! What a lyricist!!!

  • its just great

  • @shir052 I know right? classic waits

  • he is very good indeed..:P

  • Amazing and under-rated American poet...

  • @TheGraydog2000 Under-rated ? Never. Pure Genius.

  • @Mrplumpynutt Your comment doesn't make any sense.

  • @LightStijn it makes sense to me. The Graydog said he was under-rated. I disagreed. Simple. Some people obviously don't like/get Waits. But for me he's a stone cold genius. So I agree with the 12 year old colourless dog that he is both amazing and an great American poet. Just not under-rated. In fact he is widely lauded and celebrated. And we are all 3 in his camp of admirers. I hope that throws some sense on the matter.

  • @Mrplumpynutt The last bit does, yes.
